  1. Welcome to the forums! Glad to hear you've been enjoying yourself. Make yourself at home!
  2. To a degree it's almost inevitable with any sort of fiction portraying any sort of field. Fiction naturally takes shortcuts and what is often called "artistic license" with a lot of details because, in many cases, if they had to stick to a strictly realistic portrayal of that field, it would take all the drama out of whatever story they're trying to tell. It's the same with primetime crime dramas: I haven't ever been a cop myself, but I have enough contact with them in my day job to know that real police work isn't quite as exciting as shows like Law and Order, CSI, and Castle would have you believe. That said, I wouldn't say that being able to see the wires that hold up the monsters (to use the analogy) is necessarily a bad thing, as it gives you a greater appreciation for those works that do manage to tell a good story while sticking to the constraints of greater realism (keeping in mind that "realism" is often on a continuum, and not strictly an all-or-nothing affair).
  3. Seconding this. It's also in place to prevent one single moderator on a power trip from abusing his or her responsibilities, as if there's any possibility that a particular decision was taken in error, the member in question can appeal to a moderator higher up the food chain to review the decision and pass judgement on the situation. That way, if there really wasn't a good reason for a particular action (or if there was, but the mod in question acted totally out of proportion), we have a "safety valve" available to help defuse the situation. To our team's credit, I can't think of a single instance where that sort of situation has ever been a problem. In part this is because, as the others have mentioned, in the really serious matters we try to get a consensus among whoever's active just to safeguard against overreacting in the first place. Still, it's an option that's there if we ever need to use it.
  4. I can't guarantee I'll get to it right away, since I'm in the middle of some IRL relocating, but I'll definitely take a look when I can
  5. I've noticed you've got the game installed in your Program Files (x86) directory. Usually, if something's installed there, it'll save the data somewhere else on the computer, for reasons I've never been able to properly fathom. Usually, this is in somewhere like "C:\Users\[Profile Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore" which will have a duplicate Program Files (x86) folder that stores all the data you've saved to the computer. As Vanamonde mentioned, if you want to keep everything in one place, you may want to relocate the game files somewhere outside of the Program Files (x86) folder.
  6. Going to second this sentiment. Back in the day I used to love all the different ideas they had, back when they focused on proper simulation games (though I never did get the chance to try 'em all). Unfortunately, they got into a rut with rehashes of SimCity and The Sims -- both of which were admittedly quite fresh when I first found out about them, but I didn't feel the latest iterations of either added enough to be worth distinct sequels.
  7. As Gregrox has already put it, there's a thread elsewhere for just this very topic. As a matter of fact, I've just merged this one into it, for convenience And to keep the game on the rails: 7/10 - I've seen you around a fair bit, though I wouldn't say I'm too familiar with any of your specific accomplishments.
  8. Hehe, I'm not really on an "ambitious schedule" myself, so I won't hold anyone else to one That said, "Many hands make light work," so all help is appreciated.
  9. Along the same lines, I find it handy to have the Drawing Board as a handy link in my signature, so that when I recommend it to new players I don't have to copy-paste the link over and over again.
  10. Alright, before this escalates any further: Let's all dispense with the accusations of "whining." Whether or not someone's opinion of the way the game's mechanics are set up is justified, telling them that they're "whining" is only going to pour fuel on the fire, which isn't going to help anyone regardless of their position on the matter.
  11. Moving this over to our Support Forums Do you think you could provide us with some additional information, FlyingPete? It might help us get a better idea of what's going on. You may also want to take a look at our Known Issues & Self-Help thread and see if anything there matches what you're experiencing. Hope this helps!
  12. Alright y'all, let's not make this personal.
  13. Just leaving a note to say that we've moved this to Gameplay Questions
  14. One thing you might want to try is reading up on what some of our own space programs here on Earth have accomplished (or planned to accomplish). I like to browse sites like the Encyclopedia Astronautica and Beyond Apollo to see if anything stands out as something I'd like to replicate, whether simply as a craft design or as a whole mission.
  15. I came in around when one of the sub-versions of 0.18 came out. I was an enthusiastic follower of kurtjmac's "Far Lands or Bust!" series, and one of his other playlists had this interesting little space game that I had never seen before but looked like something right up my alley. Did some searching, found the demo, and loved it so much that I bought the full game later the same day.
Einen schönen Tag First off, I apologize if this message sounds strange. I'm not a native German speaker myself, and all the ones we have on the team were offline when we noticed this thread. Unfortunately, the only language allowed outside of the International section of the forums is English, as that's the most commonly shared language in the broader KSP community and we want to ensure that everyone can understand one another. Thus, we'll be moving this to the German-language section of the International forums. That said, we commend your initiative and willingness to share your knowledge with other players. Feel free to continue sharing your other creations. Have a nice day
  17. Welcome to the forums! Since you've said you like enjoy calculating things on your own, you might want to take a look at some of the materials that are listed over on the Drawing Board, which is conveniently linked through my signature. It's mainly meant as a resource for players who are having difficulty doing what they want to do or who are looking for new and interesting ideas, but there's plenty of information in there that you can use for just about all of your piloting and engineering needs (such as calculating delta-v, thrust / weight ratios, plotting orbits, etc.). (Due note that some of the information may be outdated, as 1.0 has made a few fundamental changes to some older aspects of gameplay.) Hope this helps!
  18. Awesome I'll be keeping an eye on this, since I'm trying to keep the listings on the Drawing Board up-to-date. Drop me a line when you've got the latest version up!
  19. Apologies for being out of the loop lately; some personal matters came up that took a little time for me to resolve. So as you all can probably guess, the fact that the official release came with a number of changes to the flight model means that a large number of once-valuable resources will need to be reevaluated. I'll probably be spending the next few weeks going through the list to see what's still helpful and what's now out of date. In particular, I'm expecting that most (if not all) resources to do with aerodynamics and atmospheric actions are going to need a very careful look. I'll also continue to be on the lookout for new tutorials and reference material as well, particularly to replace the outdated stuff. That said, I'm not exactly a subject matter expert on every aspect of the inner workings of the game myself, so if anyone has any recommendations (whether for the list in general or to alert me to a new tutorial in particular), don't be afraid to mention it to me
  20. Just leaving a note that I've moved this over to General Add-On Affairs, where the modders themselves might be just a smidgen more likely to see your words of appreciation I'd also like to take the time to thank our mod-makers as a whole for their contributions (in part because I've used enough different mods in the time I've played the game that I'm sure I'd leave someone out if I tried to list them all). I'm awed by the hard work and dedication that you lot have been putting into the game, especially considering that in almost every case it's purely a labor of love. Rock on, y'all!
  21. Musicrafter: I'm sure the OP would have appreciated the advice; however, as this thread has been dormant for a very long time and threads in this subforum tend to be rather time-sensitive, I'm afraid all your hard work will be for naught in this particular case. Please keep in mind that, while necroposting isn't necessarily against the rules as such, it's generally wise to let a sleeping thread lie if it's long since exhausted its purpose for existence, and we don't want threads containing potentially outdated information rising from the depths to confuse other new members. As such, we'll be closing this thread. Don't take this as a knock against the quality of your contribution; it's just that sometimes, it's best to let a sleeping thread lie
  22. Unfortunately, we can't reveal any information beyond what has already been revealed by SQUAD itself through its various outlets.
  23. Looks like an advice request for a gameplay matter. Moving this over to Gameplay Questions
