[Showcase] Non Asparagus Launch Vehicles
SDIR replied to AustralianFries's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
So this is my most recent crew vehicle, Antares 1. It has three stages, with a completely solid first stage to lower the cost. -
How much do Kerbals weigh?
SDIR replied to Daddy Cecil's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You can use the part gen mod http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/part-generator-version-2/ and it allows you to create your own custom part. -
Longditudinal/Pitch Stability Spaceplanes
SDIR replied to timpossible's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Actually, so far as I know, the wings in KSP do not actually provide lift, rather, you need to use angle of attack to keep your plane in the air. And yes, your planes in KSP will look strange but making them functional is the main priority. -
Docking on the ground (again I think)
SDIR replied to CreepyD's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If I recall correctly, Duna's atmosphere does not support intake air resource. In other words, air intakes don't work in Duna's atmosphere. -
Long-term Laythe Mission (pic heavy) - ^_^ With Part 45 ^_^
SDIR replied to Brotoro's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Awesome story as usual. Are you going to embark on a massive evacuation of all of the Laythe bases when 0.21 comes out? -
The New Stock Repository Version 0.21
SDIR replied to Maxed-Rockets's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
@zekes very nice and looks quite like the real shuttle. How do you maintain balance without using correction motors? -
Things you've become good at because you are terrible at something else.
SDIR replied to Unistrut's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've become good at docking and rendezvousing because I suck at designing heavy lift rockets -
Can't you, instead of zooming in and out, just use the side of the planet facing the sun, and have the bright side on the left amd the dark side on the right?

How to Forcefully update your ship to the latest version in 3 steps
SDIR replied to classyjakey's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Probably not, unless you made sure that all of the new parts have been replaced to ones that are available in the previous version. -
Canada day! And what better way than to celebrate Canada day than to play KSP and kill multiple kerbals?

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
SDIR replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Correction. When you think, "that happened to me once, let me go find the screenshots." -
One way to control your shuttle wile keeping it stock is to have small radial rockomax 24-77s attached to be perpendicular to your flight path,so that they can compensate for the torque that is produced when fuel is drained from the main tank.

What's up with that attitude? He was just laying out some basic steps to dock. And if you can't do it yourself, get Mechjeb to do the first couple dockings then watch and mimic Mechjeb.

Almost all of my ships are kerballed. However, most of them also have ejection mechanisms in case some thing goes wrong, so that they may survive any mispressed buttons (forgetting to turn on ASAS) any kerbals that may die, are revived with the help of quick save.

The New Stock Repository Version 0.21
SDIR replied to Maxed-Rockets's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I'll take this opportunity to show off my fully functioning (but impractical) space shuttle design! Take-off Gravity turn: And docking Craft file will be posted as soon as I wake up tomorrow Flight instructions: Launch, for the first 10 km, it's just like a regular rocket, just don't turn off the ASAS (Yes, it will be on 90% of the time) At 10 km, initiate gravity turn Watch the pitch trim very carefully. It will tell you when you need to fire the stabilization rockets. When the pitch gets half way to the bottom, press 5 to turn on the OME's. When it reaches half way to the bottom again, press 7. Then 8, then 9, and finally when the tank runs out of fuel press space twice to seperate the fuel tank, and the orbiter flies just like a rocket. Note, if these instructions are not working out for you, you can just PM me and I will give you more detailed instructions as well as better screenshots. If I get enough requests I will post more detailed flight instructions (I will probably have to anyway). -

[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.21 Discussion thread
SDIR replied to blspblackdeath's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In my opinion, I think the game is fine without mining resources. That just adds more challenge to keeping a colony supplied on another body. If you mine the materials needed, then it makes it a little too easy. And the Kethane mod does a great job of mining anyways. I used to have a Kethan drilling rig, but i got rid of it because there was no longer a reason to use it as my fuel tanks transferred from Kerbin were plenty enough! But the SAS update has been a little late, ever since space stations and docking arrived. -
I usually watch Scott Manely and Danny, with some MattDennis and HOCGaming for their challenging youtubers series. I, on the other hand, love the science!
-
What are you all using to create space stations with?
SDIR replied to Gary_P's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Stock parts, that guarantees my space stations survive updates! -
Messed around with a high speed high altitude recon plane, reassembled my interplanetary tug on its mission to Jool and Laythe, designed a new interplanetary ship system that only requires three launches to assemble, and, that's it.

When attempting to rendezvous and dock, put a lot more effort into the rendezvous than the docking. For example, try to get you inclination (angle between the two orbits) to read either 0.0 deg or NaN deg, that guarantees that there will be very little vertical translation needed. And when rendezvousing, try to get the closest approach under 1 km distance, most of mine are 0.6-0.3 km and occasionally a 0.0 km closest approach is good too! And finally, if you find you are spending too much time just getting close to the other vehicle, then just use time warp to speed up every now and then, and make corrections and then time warp again.

The "Freyja"-System - A satellite-network in a box
SDIR replied to Spanier's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Is it possible that you can make a version without Mechjeb and post that as well? I prefer not to use it because it takes the waiting out of this game -
Toy Box Lives is a manga/movie/anime about a crew that removes space debris, much akin to what this space craft is supposed to do. I think Big is talking about an early iteration of the space debris collection vehicle in the story. Edit: I really want to actually try this now Can these handle parts that are 2m wide?

Also, a handy tip is that you can use space to orient your kerbal to whatever direction the camera is facing. And added bonus is that if you mouse over your kerbal and drag with the eva pack on, the kerbal will rotate, so that he is oriented in the proper position to grab on.

That may be your problem, since you are using the Farram Aerospace mod, tipping over more than 5 deg. or so can cause the problem and it would cause turbulence and ruin the aerodynamics of your rocket. I suggest removing Farram and see how it flies.
