  1. i hate the new aero model or at least the new fairings. you can't build good (or real) working interstages. only the f***inh fraggrenade style of interstages. interstage ring like apollo? not possible, interstage cover like on Delta IV ? not possible... and building something with stock parts like the passive radiators or strucual panels will result in wanky flightbehavior of the rocket or even deadly u-turns ... at least if you dont spam SAS modules ... god thanks that their is a mod that the fairings won't explode in 1000's of pieces and only i halves, but thats still not a solution for stock interstages.
  2. judging after the new dV map, i would say that this thing will work. very nice design rune !
  3. still need to fix the strange fuelflow in my Soyuz so ... i worked on the next rocket to make it 1.0.x compatible...
  4. no more freggrenades on top of my rockets FINALY thanks a lot for this mod
  5. @ Halsfury: indeed, shorter fusellage looks better AND improves flightperformance... and yeah, a concernd Jeb is really concernd so i testet a full load of missles and how fast it can go with supercruise after my arearulemagic ... i'm impressed... and full throttle is still awesome. And i did some hidden ducttapping inside the fusellage which helped a lot to make the jetfighter more stable. still, i can't fly it good enough to test it's full potential. And still it needs testing with fueltanks. Oh and i added an airbrake. it has now 9 hardpoints: 1 under the belly, 6 under teh wings and two on the wingtips. supercruise @ Mach 1.3+ full throttle @ Mach 4.0+ (unplaned rapid disassembly too ...) so, staying under Mach 4 for hypercruising is save. as long as you don't touch your flightcontrolls. downloads: -> FAR F-18 Super Hornet (clean) <- -> FAR F-18 Super Hornet (hardpoints only, with BDamory) <- -> FAR F-18 Super Hornet (armed) <- mods needed: -> BDArmory <- -> adjustable landinggear <- and ofcourse FAR your turn Halsfury pictures:
  6. the Halsfury Aerospace and Laz Corp. F/A-18 Super Hornet .... soudns good to me. have her right now in my SPH and some adjustments on the wings droped the wave drag down to 0.80. i will test how all characteristics will behave, when i shorten the fuselage. now teh end section looks a bit to long for me. but you did a great job on teh cockpitneck and wings! very pleased with the look of it. edit: and wow, you got her down from 21 tons to 15?
  7. @ Halsfury very very helpfull. amazing how little changes affect the overall plane. espacily the wingsection and its strength. i havn't known, that the small wingsections are so weak compared to others. sad somehow, because they fit great for the original F-18 wingshape now a download would be nice so that i can test it myself and use all your improvments for further development it still needs missles
  8. realy those little wingsection? wow ... very strange. Squad realy should rebalance such smaller parts thanks a lot for your work. can't wait to see your improvments to the YF-17!
  9. question about mods: Kerbal joint reinforcements could help a lot with some difficulties in design, actually it would help a lot with my Hornet... BUT would it be "legal"? because a plane could withstand more force without struting or magic in building.
  10. next itteration of the my F-18 Prototype. The shape is getting closer to the real one. Rework of the tailfins, wings got a slight angle, nose section minor adjustments ... the result? even better then before ! funfact: it has nearly the real length, wingspan etc like the real Super Hornet ... that shows how good the KSP parts and properties are compared to the real world. Well done Squad and testers
  11. so, new news on the F-18 (YF-17, while i work on it ...). I rebuilded the body of the fighter so i could decrease the negative things on the tail with the engines. Like Halsfury said, tailconnectors are great for smoothing out the shape! still not happy .. BUT i'm getting there. And an Antenna on the Nose is fantastic to decrease wave drag ... next i will work on the air-intake area, cockpit neck and final adjustments on the engines. maybe some minor tweeking for the wings too ... and then i need to reinforce the body and wings. still i need help because i don't know how to withstand the G-loads without braking apart oh and did i mention, that this is my very first plane in FAR? download: -> YF-17 (F-18 Prototype) <- (it needs adjustable landinggear mod! -> click me <- ) edit: link fixed.
  12. can't upload the craft file right now, will do it later. but thank you very much for teh first ideas i will work on the plane body a bit more before posting it for your judgements and improvents
  13. working on a 4.5th generation jet fighter (if this is allowed) my inspiration is the F/A-18 Hornet and it is very intersting to see, what kind of decision has influcend the design. sadly i have some problem with FAR. this is my first time using FAR and i'm getting used to the additinal informations in the SPH (currently working on the body rule etc to smooth out the profil to get finaly supersonic) my two main problems are these: with SAS on, the jet keeps wiggling (sometimes a wobble to death). Is this normal? or a fault of poor design? my second question is: how to make the jet withstand high G-loads without braking apart? struting the hell out of it don't work i really want to try this out, the challange is very entertaining. so i hope for some advises here a picture of the current version, only modparts are the adjustable landinggears:
  14. Qestion for Prokjet: is it normal, that i can surface attach things to the reactor core body of the Lantern engine? now i can build my nuclear UR-700 ... YAY
  15. my jaw droped onto teh groudn and cracked the floor ... A M Z I N G UPDATE thanks
  16. hey Beale: you already have build the Blok D upper stage.... whats about the KVRB upperstage for teh Proton ? (a later version called KVTK is propesed to be used by teh Angara A5) http://www.astronautix.com/craft/kvrb.htm http://www.russianspaceweb.com/angara_kvtk.html http://andegraf.com/rockets/proton.htm (scroll down) and my kerblized version: http://i.imgur.com/ADZjmUV.png
  17. working more on my russian stuff... Upperstage KVRB prototype - maybe i will switch to the nuke engine for improved performance...
