  1. On gravity assists: I plan to do a Mun assist and an Eve assist. These will be my first ever gravity assists, so yay! :)

Redshift OTF: That is a nice design! Got a .craft?

Question: Any good tourist attractions on Moho?

May I ask why you are going to be using a mun assist? It will almost always be more efficient to burn normally without any mun interaction.

  2. Wow. I'm seriously surprised so few people knew about the commonwealth games. I always thought of them as second under the Olympics...

None the less, I still need to celebrate them in KSP. Any suggestions?

  3. With my being Scottish and living in Glasgow, you can understand my super high hype level concerning the commonwealth games. And yet I have not seen any reaction from the KSP community!

I think we should come up with some community competition or event to mirror the excitement surrounding the games!

    Any suggestions?

  4. I have to agree with you on this. However the fact that 0.24 is close to "Scope Complete" makes me doubt there will be many massive changes before then. That then means that anyone who plays and leaves now will most likely do so when we reach Scope Complete. That might mean that it doesn't really make a difference whether you put multilayer in now or in a couple of updates time.

Then again, that argument is based on the assumption that there will not be any more game-changing updates until scope complete.

  5. Or perhaps, instead of deleting it or losing control, it would be added to a new classification of celestial objects. Perhaps 'Private Satellite'? You could then show and hide those objects like you can debris or flags.

  6. Perhaps it would look even more awesome if you changed the black and white stripes (at the bottom and top of the part) to the typical yellow and black "warning" stripes seen on the top of this: 60px-LV-T909_LFE.png and the bottom of this: 51px-Rapier_Engine_01.png.

Also, as to how the kerbals would get in, would adding a small hatch to the top end work? much like this: FMzqP9Xs.jpg

Awesome part though. I have been looking for something like this.

  7. I've been experimenting with re-useable fly-back boosters. They are inspired by the original concept for the Space Shuttle, which consisted of two manned re-useable rocket planes. The booster was to act as the first stage, while the orbiter was to be the upper stage. The booster was eventually dropped from the design and replaced with solid rockets to save development costs.

My version acknowledges that any stages that are released before I make orbit are going to be lost when they fall back into Kerbin's atmosphere. Therefore, I use solid rockets as my first stage. The logic behind this is that I'm expecting solid fuel to cost less than liquid fuel in the new patch and I expect empty solid rocket "trash bins full of boom" to have limited recovery value anyway.

The design shown in the album below consists of a solid-fuelled first stage and three liquid-fuelled fly-back stages. In this case, they are being used to send the upper stage to perform a Mun landing. Each stage has enough fuel remaining after separation to get itself back to Kerbin and land on the runway.

This is obviously a time consuming approach. I have to design and test fly each space plane stage separately. I'm also making extra work for myself during the mission by adding the requirement to pilot each stage back to the runway. Re-entry was actually the most difficult part to learn, since I'm aiming to re-enter within gliding distance of the KSC runway.

Note that these plane are stock, with no mods used (except Kerbin Cup for the flags).

I have a feeling you like things with wings on them too much...
