  1. Its something dating back from the MS-Dos 8Bit era, its the same "trick" used back then to allocate more as 512mb ram, this evolved into Windows and somehow still present to today. Its part of the x86 memory allocation instruction set at the original design, to limit memory allocation to the CPU they could do other stuff needed (mostly due, memory back then was EXPENSIVE, and i mean REALLY expensive) thus saving on memory made computers affordable and much cheaper. There are several gaps in the memory of a PC, at 512MB (x86), then memory needed to be extended to get 640mb (x286) memory by drivers, but drivers eat away working memory, thus if you had 1024mb memory, you can map drivers into that region, clearing up normal memory for usage (x386 era) It allways kept part of the x86 based CPU in terms of backwards compatebility was is allways been one of the backbone on wish MS builded it OS system. This design choise we still notice in some small extend.

  3. So in a way you are suggesting research in a kind of EvE Online way, that the more you progress into it, the longer it takes to complete it, in real time.. Sorry, but no way people are gonna wait lets say 4 to 5 hours on their own time before something is finished, EvE Online can get away with it, since it fits the whole game setting, but implementing this into KSP, even though with very reduces waiting times, i think is eventually an really bad idear. at least worser as the point system we have now. I do admit the instant unlocking of parts in the tree is a bit off, and a waiting time before your scientists are ready, seems logical, but keep that at least tied to the ingame time and thus also to timewarping. So that i order new research, that its completed after XX number of days, and can speed it up by timewarping. Then i have a prototype (one single item) that needs to be tested, and then taken into production and funded. And here comes a bit how i think the carreer will look when completed, from what i remember for interviews of Harvester (correct me if i'm wrong) Once the item is in ProtoType state, you can get a contract to test this item out, on succesfull completion of this test, you get credits, what you then can use to buy new researched parts to use. Then you have contracts that you have to complete with you fully production rocket/plane giving again credits to spend on even more parts, and hiring scientists/engineers/kerbalauts. How i unlock new research, it by science points, or by you're means doing predefined actions, boils to me down in the end to the same thing, and wont change much in the end when all parts of carreer mode are completed. And TBH i still fail to see how you'r Do This, to Get That is so much different as a point system. It still "forces" me into doing things like its now as well the case, i still am limited to the techtree, and with its current state, the whole carreer is well.. true.. boring and easy.. But when i think of it as a whole like SQUAD mentioned how they would approach it (what can be subject of change in this stage of development) i dont think it will stay boring and easy. In short, i'm saying, you can suggest ofc you vision, but the likelyhood that things will change the way YOU want it, is very slim, allmost can say, it wont ever never happen (again we said the same of MP, look what happend, still MP isnt implemented yet, thus alot easier to adopt, nothing is lost, only gained) since the system is allready in the game, and scrapping it for a simulair system with just a other means of getting invisible points, and with it own flaws, i doubt it they will scrap the current system. Hence people say, if you dislike the current system so much, but you like youre freedom, go play sandbox, at least then you cannot get frustrated by a system, you clearly hate. And if you want to prove yourself right i would suggest make it into a Mod, since your idear has merit, and would be even fun to try out, still only way is by Modding it in. Thinking that the devs will adopt it.. well it can happen, but winning a million in a lottery also can happen, but the change that it will happen to you... well thats neglectable. If you ever push you'r idear out as a mod, i an eager to try it..
  4. MJ is unrealistic in its form in KSP, i doubt any NASA astronaut would dare to step into a rocket controlled by MJ Also a other big difference between RL spacecrafts and KSP crafts, we have in KSP one autopilot to fly them all , NASA has a autopilot catered for that vehicle only. Having that said, having a autopilot is realistic, even the first "rockets" had some mechanical guidance and later on dispite beeing very simple, and automated guidance system, to nowerdays fully functional systems that could fly the crafts completely without any human interaction at all..
  5. We had this in the game for a long time, and still there are reverences to this phenomana or random breaking ships, it drove people insane, and costed the Devs countless sleepless nights, Its called The Kraken, and it showed mailfunctions that you have NO control over in this game, are really not wanted features most people want to have.. If you really want to have such a feature, and since you mentioned youre a game dev on Unity you'rself then i would suggest make such a mod, for those who are looking for this kind of Realism, there are prolly more hardcore Realism fans out here that are looking to add every bit of extra challenge to the game. Going forth on this trying to get this as Vanilla item in the game, is a waste of time and efford and can result in rubbing some people the wrong way, since you're suggestions are allmost all allready suggested many, many times before, and answered many many times before.. Hence the Do-not-suggest-list, some topics kinda get brought up over and over again, while they are discussing a dead beaten horse, in the sence of, its not going to happen, or its going to happen, when its going to happen. But a bit tongue-in-cheek, i do find it funny how you talking about realism, and totally go past the notice that using Dv Calculators, flying by autopilots and computer assisted navigation is standard in Human spaceflight, and deemed unrealistic in KSP. Sounds to me a bit like playing a racegame with a steer and pedals in cockpit view, and then be called a cheater because it not realistic to use a steer and pedals to control a car in cockpit view, but i have to use a xbox controller in 3rd person view to race realistic. Sorry, i really laughed pretty hard at your comment on realism here
  6. Your really good in turning others his words into something he not saying at all, and turning your own words around in an reply, completely turning around 180 degrees in a few posts. Took me a few reads before i realised this. Kudos there.. So you started out in how you dont like the restriction of points, that limits your feeling of Archievement compared what you are used to in the Sandbox This is still there, nothing has changed, they left it there for those who didnt like the carreer mode and rather set their own goals and archievements. Same as good ol 0.22 was and before.. As nothing has changed in Sandboxmode, you're still can go wherever you like, when you like, with the Tech you like and with the goals you like, nothing forces you to follow the Techtree line there.. And you dont need the GooGrinding.. But you still look towards the Career mode, but wheep of memories of Pre-Career time, as its not existent anymore. Ok, nuff on the whiney part, onto bussiness Now you want a Archievement Science Tree, do this, and you get that kind of working what is imho utter B.S. in approach to science, and also forces me into doing like you allready saying bout the science points is forcing me into a direction i dont want, this would force me even more into doing things i dont want.. This list is allready exactly what you'r complaining about, it forces me to do things to get things, as i read you'r suggestions, you would make me go to duna to find water to unlock for example a science lab.. I dont want to find stinking water on Duna, go do that you'rself, but now i forced myself out of a sciencelab.. thats RUBBISH.. Now i foresee this same scenario later on with Contracts, i envision getting a Contract later when its implemented, in the likes of Primairy Mission : Find Water on Duna for 1.000.000 credits, Secondairy Mission : Take Duna Water Sample to Kerbin for 250.000 Credits. And on completion i get my Science points in where i would be able to get myself the next Tech tree item unlocked.. Now i rather had seen a system where i would have given my Scientists an order to Design me a better Mailsail Engine, this would then take XXX amount of time, in the mean time i would do a other mission and when i got back, the Scientists made me a prototype Mainsail Engine wich i have to test out again in a contract for funding, so i can later keep producing the Mailsails, or even sell some Tech off to "consumer markets" for quick Credits.. I would rather getting rid of the Tree totally (i think the tree is indead an mistake, not the science points) and use the Points you're getting to be placed into a "Pool" where of you can steer you're scientists into an direction (i.e. Propulsion/Navigation/etc) and see what they come up with. Maybe even an Upgrade system for existing Tech.. I could write a very detailed system on how I would have done it, and maybe some even would like my way of science, and would love to see it inplemented. But i realize at this stage of Development, they wont go throwing a large portion out of the game, when they have a working system. This is excatly what i ment in my first sentence, you are putting words into my mouth i havent said at all. I just said, with so many people everyone has an idear and an opinion, and if Person A idears get adopted over the Devs because Person A has a better idear, then Person B comes and claims HE has a better idear, and so on and so on. So a Dev follows HIS vision, regardsless a comunity wants them to make, all the devs will do, is look if someone has a feasable idear/suggestion and if this first into their vision, they adopt this suggestion. So no they prolly wont listen to anyone that suggesting to throw a large completed working part out of the game, to replace it with a completely new system that havent been thought of in detail, or that it would even work in the end (fun, complexity, programmable). They DO listen to suggestions that are feasable, and in line what they visioned themself and i know of several features in the game, that are directly suggestions of players that the Devs adopted. There is a difference in listing to suggestions and ignoring unfeasable idears, completely overhauling at this point a science system, i think falls into the latter, Suggesting switch items on the TechTree, adding an part to tweakables, adding the Recovery Button below the AltMeter are all suggestions they do listen to, and even implement them (the recovery button for example).. Also you keep neglecting the part that Career isnt completed yet, what gives a biased view allready on the science system implemented. Archievements (even though SQUAD refuses to see these as archievements as they stated KSP will hold no Archievements) are done through Contracts i think like my example earlier bout Duna, and the rest is all up to you're imagination or supplemented by Mods. But enough of this... You dont like the current system of Science, and yearn for the old days, we just point out the old days are still there, noone forces you to play the careermode, and the Sandbox is still there unchanged for all your personal Archievements to accomplish, without GooCanSpam to gain points, and that was you'r initial complaint.
  7. Use the [ and ] keys, switches craft/kerbal focus within 2.5 km (2500mtrs)
  8. Like others said, sollution is simple in you're case, stop playing Carreer mode, and stick to sandbox. There are some many players, and so many opinions, devs cant please every single one of us, and allways funny that some guy thinks he knows it all, and thinks he knows the sollution. Problems is, even if the devs put up you'r vision of the game, and not their own, and ask every details on what and how to make the game according to your specifications, as you made clear, exactly know what to do, then others will post about the same as you did, and complain how you lack vision and steering the game into a direction it shoudnt have gone, and someone then will get the say in how the game has to be developed, and violla we are back at the beginning.. So, i think we just let the devs do their work, thusfar most people like what they are making, and what we like to see different in your own game, can be modded. Or in your case, just stick to the Sandbox and wait how the carreer turns out to be once its finished, before the next tandrum..
  9. Great, release of this update is by placing this topic had been set back at least a other week.
  10. I dont use it anymore, when i started i used MJ alot, then there was a while (think around 0.21) that NJ didnt work and had to play a while without MJ till it was updated.. In that time i noticed i've gotten to a point that i really didnt need it anymore, and all MJ could do, i was able to do more efficient, and faster as with MJ. Resently i gave Mj2 a shot, but was annoyed by it, that it still needed alot more fuel/monopropellant that i need by manual control, so removed it again. I rely more on the flightcomputer of RT2 nowerdays, allthough that has some weird quirks as well..
  11. IF i would launch such an contraption on my PC, it prolly WILL melt the whole PC into a puddle of molten silicon and plastic
  12. Due the lack of, or maybe better said dispite the lack of a self-destruct system, i just dump on a trajectory out of the system as soon i dont need them, and destroy them from KSC in space.. The debris of this then eventually drifts out of harms way (RP wise), and any radiation coming from them, in space, well is as dangerous as the radiation allready present in space. i might just add a other 0.00000000000000000000000000000001% to the total radiation in space present allready. Dumping the LV-N's on any planet/moon is for me a no-go i dont want to leave any junk on any planet/moon, except flags
  13. LOL, i could have written this.. exactly the same age, and played also those games as well Oh man, i still remember when my dad gave me a Phongbox for my birthday early 70's.. half of my friends where yealous, the other half just coudnt understand what was fun about it Still i think KSP is for everyone regardless of age, that has a healthy interrest in things like engineering, mathematics, space explorations, and adventure
  14. It took me about a year to learn how to dock, before i grasped how to do it, i would have agreed with you that everything was to blame, controls, input devices, KSP, name it. it coudnt be me. Then suddenly, i made my first succesfull docking, and i was supprised, how the .... i managed. Thus i tried again, and violla, again a succesfull dock, now docking became so easy, i dont even need to put in some effort, an can do it with crazy heavy payloads, freakiest design and even ships that arent even setup for docking manouvres, as long it has a docking port. So no its not impossible, its rather very easy to archieve once you know how to do it, so easy even, that like me once you know how to do it, you wonder yourself how you been missing the clue on how to do it for so long, and beating yourself that it took yourself so long to get it right, i'm for certain clueless why it took so long for me to grasp it, because it IS easy. Still i prolly am not the most efficient docker, and i certainly cannot dock like Scot Manley does going straight from launch into a rendesvous and dock within 15mins. Now i can write here how i do it, but others allready explained in better detailed manners how to do so, and if that is not helping you at all, i dont mind to help out on a more personal level by IRC/Skype or whatever, helped a few others to learn the basics of docking that way to.
  15. I allways think of the RPG Arcanium whenever someome mentions Magic combined in a world with technoligy, and how both cannot co-exist in the same world.
  16. According to an article, the fastest man on earth Ursain Bolt would be able to fly on Titan without an engine http://www.nu.nl/wetenschap/3717545/usain-bolt-zou-kunnen-vliegen-saturnusmaan-titan-.html Here is a link to the paper that is published about this https://physics.le.ac.uk/journals/index.php/pst/article/download/625/420 What do you think, and what if these conditions where on earth could we fly from Europe to the USA just with a wingsuit. That would be cool if you ask me I wonder how long and how high he would be able to fly, and IF he would be able even to get into a stable orbit
  17. you can cli[p without the cheat, doing this "trick" myself a while.. This also means that especially with decouplers, you sometimes dispite the rotation of a decoupler is still correct, you connect the engine to the lower connection node of the decouple and the next stage to the upper connection node. Then when you stage, it staging itself works, but the parts stick together as a whole, but with no control anymore over the staged part. This happend allready a few times to me, and only way to solve this, is to cancel the flight, and correct the faulty decoupler in VAB, by reattaching the decouple in the right order.
  18. Its for anyone that has an interrest in it, regardless of age.
  19. Depends, my heavy lifters ith stationparts/refuel tanks, often tend to go slow, with as much thunder and smoke i can give them , my light unmanned drone/sattelites i tend to go off like a kannonball, but my normal flights with krew, i stick like the others to as much efficient launches i can do them. Guess i go for all sorts of launches
  20. i just noticed HOW many hours i put into KSP, and it shocked me, no other single player game i ever played this long, only game(s) that come close or surpass it are MMO's currently over 1200+ hours, was even more as i thought, and it shocked me, especially i even still thinking about how to do the next thing in my mind. The game is worth every euro.. then considering its not even completed yet.. I hate you SQUAD!!!!!... for making such an addictive game
  21. if you installed MJ in an allready running savegame, then you need to go to research and add MJ to the researched items. Every mod that is installed into a running savegame, needs to be researched (costs no Science points though)
  22. i think it was 0.15 or 0.16 we had no eva, and no docking yet.
  23. Many, MANY times.. keep in mind i started in 0.16 and with each update i started anew.. This is just my latest endevour, still few more Biomes left, only marked the main biomes with flags, but done in this game many more mun landings, mostly for kethane extration. By now, i dont even have to give an efford to land on the mün and go back to the kerbin, this is just for me a routine flight with no challenges anymore.
  24. ATM doing something simulair, but in exploration, one planet at the time.. fully explore this, and then move on to the next, with slow research, i dont go to the next tier until the current tier is fully unlocked. i managed under normal play to complete all tiers in 2/3 days normal play time, this challenge, allready at it for a week, and still working on Minmus
