  1. Yea its strange I can't find a legit release date. I keep getting different answers. If its on demand then I imagine it'll hit theatres soon. I guess some will have to wait until dvd release.
  2. Everything on tv other then hbo has turned to complete crap.
  3. So this rover I've been toying over for the past few days has yet to leave the surface of Kerbin unfortunately. I want this thing to do everything. One rover that can easily and safely traverse all planets. So this one here is the best one out of the.. three that I made. And Im quite proud of it. Its fast and very durable. Four Kerbals aboard and it can hit 25m/s. But if im going to be going this fast that presents a problem. Flipping a rover isn't a matter of if its a matter of when. Now.. at 20 or so m/s the four kerbals survived. I don't know if I got lucky, but I hope not because then that makes all this pointless. The rover explodes when it flips over. Violently I might add.. Here some more views. ( Disregard the probe and decupler they are for the upper stage ) The engines you see poking through are roll over jets. They work perfectly. I have two of the small radial mono tanks slightly clipped into the craft which are also supplying two rcs ports on the side if you can see them. I angle them up slightly for stability and it gives me a 10m/s boost. Which can possibly knock off hours of travel for long trips. And heres a top and bottom view. I put the control probe on the bottom.. For the longest time the probe was the first to go when it flipped. This worked significantly, but now if I bottom out im screwed. Im going to chance that seeing is how there is pretty much nothing to bottom out on. ( Haven't been to Minmus though that terrain could be a rough. ) Yet despite all this the damn thing still falls apart if it rolls over at speed. The longest Ive traveled is 33km. And it was terrifying. One wrong move and an hour was lost. Quicksave only works when your stopped which sucks, but it does present a nice challenge. So every 5 km or so i have to come to a stop, save and move on. And the less gravity there is the longer that takes. On the mun it took me over 2km to bring my other rover to a halt from 20m/s. That rover is a crane, but I imagine this rover will be traveling close to its wheels max speed. I don't know if im going to have any power issues. I have no idea where i can squeeze in a generator so im just going to add more panels and hope for the best. ( It has two small batteries. ) I need this rover to be efficient and safe as possible. It has asas and sas so flipping this thing should be hard to do, but as the late and great Forest Gump said "**** happens." EDIT: Let me know if you guys cant see the images.. steams library isn't the easiest to navigate.
  4. I actually use a skipper engine to kill my horizontal velocity. But I do not follow the retrograde mark as it falls. I keep my ship pointed directly at the horizon until ALL my speed is gone and I'm falling straight down. I then jet that stage and land nice and soft with nukes. That method is amazing for landing within a 100m of a target. I find the nukes don't have enough thrust to kill the speed. It's fine if you have plenty of altitude, but if your under 15km forget it.
  5. Yea the wheels won't sag as much. The only thing you can do if you want to stick to your design is to.. well.. redesign it to compensate. Or... ditch the wheel and make modules that sit on the ground or landing legs. But this requires a crane and kerbal attatchment system ( mod ). The crane can be tricky to design. I was inspired by boat cranes... Google that. Id post pics, but I'm at work.
  6. You did see it? I do agree, but even 2001 had a disaster. That's why I liked 2010. Most of them actually made it back. It's nice that the disasters in this movie are practical though. More or less... for instance "The ice is thinner then we thought" And there always will be a unpredictable variable. Future explorers may indeed find the surface far more hostile then we thought. Like the earthquakes ( Europaquakes? ) from the shifting ice. That would be detrimental to a mission. A fissure could open up at anytime and sink the craft. I think sending people down to the surface of these moons in the future may not actually happen. Europa and especially Io might be far too active to send humans to the surface. I remember reading something like the topography of Io changes as fast as our weather does. So you never know there will always be that one variable. Like alien fish that can melt the ice lol. Another thing I didn't understand was...what happened to the orbiter at the end?
  7. No don't get me wrong there are aliens... but there the right kind of aliens. Its not a horror film as in Prometheus. I was fooled by the trailer too, but NO its not what it looks like at all. The actions scenes you see are more or less just.. accidents. For instance the part where the guy in the space suit is screaming... they were EVA when he ripped a hole in his suit and depressurized. That scene was of him regaining consciousness. As for the guy that saved him well... hes the one that's floating away. That scene was great I truly felt really sorry for the dude. Theres only two things I don't agree on in the movie. One is the landing zone. they land about 100meters off course and somehow this chick threaded a needle to get this thing down into a valley of ice. The next thing is when the probe finally breaks through the ice... they show sunlight peeking through even though they show the probe being at like 800 meters before it breaks through. But other then that its a truly remarkable movie. And all it did was make me want to play KSP even more lol.
  8. Lol that would be the first thing I did. A snowball. But seeing is how the EVA's in the movie go horribly wrong id advise against it. It's really cool they depict Europa as alot more hostile then you'd think. All that moving ice causes a lot of earthquakes. Which I imagine is very accurate. That ice moves fast. Future explorers may find that to be an issue. Hell it might just be dangerous to land a craft on it in general. A fissure could open up at anytime and sink the craft.
  9. Now this thread probably could go elsewhere, but this movie is so...kerbal it belongs right here. My favorite space movie was 2001/2010 up until now. A space movie that's about the exploration and discovery. Most movies add in some horror alien factor and I hate that. Not to mention are completely unrealistic. I didn't think anything could top 2001, but my god this movie did. Now its not out in theatres yet. I have Comcast so it was a $10 "watch before it hits theatres" deal on demand. Worth.. every ...penny. The movie is simply about a mission to Europa. They get there they drill through the ice and ....o boy lol. I loved every second. The visuals are practically.. real. I felt as if i was truly along for the ride. There is a fear factor, but they do it very very well. That feeling of isolation. That "We are actually here" feeling. I highly recommend this movie KSP fans will feel right at home. And ..well let's just say I have a greater appreciation for the lives of my kerbals after watching this. Go watch it. Right now. By any means possible. I need to get this on blu ray asap.
  10. The middle button doesn't have enough travel. Its terrible for larger craft. Does the mod work for .20?
  11. Is there a way to detach its focus from the absolute center of your craft? A TRUE free camera? Im trying to get an over the shoulder shot of my kerbal watching his planet drift away and im finding it quite impossible.
  12. I made a nice plane that goes up to my station and can "land" back at KSC. Landings hard because the plane is balanced with full fuel. Once it runs out of mono it gets rear heavy so I have to go light on the controls. If I'm not perfectly lined up with the runway after reentry then I gotta put it down in the grass. It's a blast to fly. I will say though its not an SSTO. It's a DSTO. Duel stage technically. It uses 6 very powerful KW rockets to lift up off the runway in about a 100 yards from start. I pitch up about 60 degrees then at 1k meters the rockets seperate and off I go. Gets to orbit with almost half a tank left. I use the B9 pack. ( makes SSTO's a breeze to build. )
  13. What about the upper atmosphere? I remember reading something about a city that could float on the dense atmosphere. And apparently the conditions up there are... practical.
  14. How will this fare when .21 comes out? Is this mod going to be updated for .20 then get broken again when .21 hits? Sorry if that sounds ignorant, but if so please enlighten me.
  15. That picture looks like a real photo... is it?
  16. How's stopping at 50m/s? Lol took me 2km to bring my crane to a stop at 25m/s.
  17. What are the chances Unity itself gets a significant update?
  18. I guess we can debate all we want, but I guess the end all be all is the engine. So.. how big of an overhaul is it to swap out what's under the hood?
  19. Yea settings are low. No AA, no vsync. Nothing in the background. Id say the largest is my moon base. 700 parts. The base itself is really small compared to what I've seen. How do people make 1000+ crafts, and keep it playable?
  20. Because I think ill be putting this game down until then. All my projects are hindered by bad fps. I play this game for hours at 5 - 10 fps and I simply cannot stand it anymore. The simplest tasks become hard. I don't know what Squad can do with the Unity engine, but something needs to be done. This should be priority number one as they make this game. I know... alpha. But its the engine itself that needs to update as well. So if that's the case I imagine I wont be playing for quite some time. PC's got a 3770k and 16 gigs of ram..
  21. Thanks for putting the time in to do this. It does suck though that there is no work around. The game gets unplayable for me at about 800 parts and I find myself having to limit my creativity because of it. Idk what squad can do when it comes to Unity, but something has to change. Infact this should be priority number one. Get this game OPTIMIZED... not ... flags..
  22. Well... guess you found a good reason to stop using hacks... not trying to talk you down or nothing, its a SP game play it your way, but if you did construct it in space you'd be fine. In the VAB... hit that save button as much as possible. I hit it after every major part that goes go.
  23. YOU STOLE MY DESIGN!!, .... Lol. That ones better...and bigger. But damn my crane was a lag fest. How was getting that to Duna? Mines on the mun and it was like pulling teeth... Did you have to stick it on a rocket upside-down?
