  1. ESA has a plan to build hab modules from robots. Well... at least they are interested in the technology. You probably heard about it already, but here it is: http://sservi.nasa.gov/articles/building-a-lunar-base-with-3d-printing/
  2. There's a very long road ahead until anyone can manufacture anything from lunar resources. Until humans can finally live entirely 'off the land' on the Moon, it's an extremely expensive adventure.
  3. I too have to side with those who vote for the Moon. Building a base there is entirely feasible, but still, what would people do there except for scientific work similar to those on the ISS?
  4. In about 200 years or more, probably.
  5. Is there really no way to make part fairings work in KSP anymore? I think others had this problem too. Good job Kartoffel!
  6. SpaceX has a plan to 'kick start' a colony on Mars. They haven't really talked about when they intend to make bringing people back possible and I don't think anyone on Earth is up for the challenge to live and work in a very small camp on a desert planet, probably for the rest of their lives. Not even mentioning what the costs could be even for this 'simple' approach which SpaceX will have to fund (maybe completely) by themselves. I love SpaceX but they really should
  7. The more I hear about SLS the less enthusiastic I am about it. Looks like the best option we have to leave LEO again is with reusable ships having very high ISP engines assembled in orbit. Probably 20-30 years from now... I doubt SLS will live the 30's this way.
  8. Won't SLS cost '500 million' per launch with Orion included? Also, which version of SLS will cost that much? Not to mock anyone, I'm just curious.
  9. That only applies to the propellant crossfeed capable version but they will hardly need to use that, if ever. It's good to have a rocket which is able to much more than normal with minor modification when needed though.
  10. We've discussed it on the FASA thread. It happens to some people including me. I think it was stated that it's not a FASA problem and it can only be fixed by Squad but look it up in the comments.
  11. Sad to see the cuts for earth science. As for SLS they can call it whatever they want it's way too early to introduce it even in 2018. Unless they are willing to boost the SLS program's budget seriously to develop additional modules and whatnot for Orion's lunar orbital (and whatever else) missions until Mars.
  12. Cool! It works very well and even looks nice. I was waiting for a proper LES mod with a protective cover with the docking port in mind. I usually make it with the stock LES and procedural fairings but now I'll definitely use this.
  13. Interestingly this launch clamp bug also appeared in 0.20. I think only the 0.20.1 bugfix killed it so probably a fix will be included in 1.0.1.
  14. Saudi Arabia has a bigger defense budget than Russia? That's rather surprising. But I have to agree. The US defense budget just got boosted this year by 38 billion dollars for 2016 as an "emergency war funding". More than 2 times the annual budget of NASA.
  15. It reminds me of a weird bug in KSP when for no reason if I switch off ASAS the craft starts to spin to a random direction. I haven't encountered it for a long time though.
  16. As of now, the plan is to upkeep it until 2024. Further use of it depends on many factors.
  17. India and China need to boost their space budget by a large margin then and even though they could, they don't plan to. SpaceX doesn't have a budget like a national space agency has. They entirely depend on NASA and other commercial contracts...
  18. I think May 5 is the current date set for the pad abort test.
  19. It's a remodeled intake. Probably with the new thermal system it might actually reduce heat on the attached engines.
  20. If it was really worth it and possible to establish a permanent base there the race wouldn't have stopped just because the "first prize" for landing on the Moon was taken by someone. It it were the Soviets to take it, I believe lunar exploration would have stopped anyway, maybe with even less missions to the Moon. Going for space LEO stations was a logical next step. Edit: As for the never to be missed 'who did it first' fest arising here, I have to say it's still ridiculous (and childish). I don't care who did what the first time until it is for the benefit of humanity. Besides this if one didn't do something the first time in the space race the other one would have probably been the first...
