  1. OK, now follows a very intimate confession, but I trust you guys: For me, this is also like a frustration valve. Why frustration, I hear you ask? Because I know in real life the chance getting into space is so small, it will most likely never happen. I'm 31 one now, I lack the skills to travel to space. I can neither fly a plane or dive, I have only a little idea of rocketry, I wear glasses, I'm a bit overweight. As a reference, I compare to Chris Hadfield, his physical condition and his skills. So KSP offers me the chance to get my portion of space travel before I die. )
  2. Well, you know what to do then, guys. Will ask for this thread being closed until this is reality.
  3. OK everybody, listen up! I don't know if this belongs here, if not, please move or delete - but this is an affair of the heart! I just discovered that Kerbal Space Program is listed on metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/kerbal-space-program But! There's not one single review about it! I repeat: Not one single review! As a result of this, there is also no score. KSP hasn't deserved this. OK, soldier, so I call every Kerbalian here on the forum to vote for KSP, create a nice review with a nice score and post it there. Why? For me, metacritic has always been the first point when checking if a new game is worth trying out. Most of the time, when I see no metascore or a score under 50, I give up before even trying. Imagine this with new KSP-interested people! Maybe they miss the game of their lives! I will set a good example. At about 20:00 CET today I will also write a long and good-mooded review. So! Why are you still standing there, staring at me? Move it!
  4. W00000t!! No way! Hahahaha, this is so awesome and cool and strange and funny and pure genius in one! Great work, Lordherrmann! I'm totally endorsing this!
  5. Welcome, MyIronGiant, to the forum! How are your probes constructed? Do they bear any science utilities? How do you power them? And how many tries did you need to get them to a stable orbit?
  6. General Dreagon, Sir, I see you are from the Netherlands? Welcome to the forum!
  7. hiul, I think we are all very glad to have you aboard! Where are you from? I'm totally convinced this game will become real mainstream (like Minecraft) very soon and you can proudly call yourself a verteran in those days! They will find their way. With your help. It will be a hard and long run, but that doesn't matter. Together with your Kebals you will also mature as a rocket technician!
  8. Huh? Why not openly say it? I can take it. It came up in my thread about Kerbal culture and yes, I strongly support and encourage this thread here and hope to see a lot of answers by real female gamers.
  9. OK, here is one more to get this started: Rocket Kerbal (song by Elton Kerman) He packed my bags last night, pre-flight Zero hour, nine a.m. And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then I miss the Kerbin so much, I miss my science toys It's lonely out in space On such a timeless flight And I think it's gonna be a long, long time ‘til touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the Kerbal they think I am at home Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket Kerbal Rocket Kerbal, burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long, long time ‘til touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the Kerbal they think I am at home Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket Kerbal Rocket Kerbal, burning out his fuse up here alone Duna ain't the kind of place to raise your kids In fact it's cold as hell And there's no one there to raise them if you did And all this science, I don't understand It's just my job five days a week A rocket Kerbal, a rocket Kerbal And I think it's gonna be a long, long time ‘til touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the Kerbal they think I am at home Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket Kerbal Rocket Kerbal, burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long, long time ‘til touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the Kerbal they think I am at home Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket Kerbal Rocket Kerbal, burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time And I think it's gonna be a long, long time
  10. I want to give a short statement on that Kerbal women topic, to finish this issue so the thread gets further great ideas for the list. I would really appreciate Kerbal women in the game and yes, also on the rockets, and even more I encourage every gamergirl / gamerwoman to play this game and be merry with us all.
  11. Hallo Lordherrmann, werd mich da gleich mal anmelden. Canopus, danke für den Link!
13. Well, every Kerbal scientist (= you!) building space vessels and sending them into unknown terrain needs some songs to sing along with whilst doing daily work. So I took some Earth's songs and made them more Kerbalish! Maybe you'd like to contribute for the database of real Kerbal songs! I want to give you an example. If it doesn't always make sense, I'd like to apologize. English is not my native language. But I think you will get it. If you have more skills and it even rhymes, the better! Ah damn, maybe someone even has the courage to bring something similar into some form of YouTube-video or so. Space Kerbality (song by David Kerman) KSC to Major Kerman KSC to Major Kerman Take your snacks and put your helmet on KSC to Major Kerman Commencing countdown, engines on Check ignition and may Kod's love be with you [note by NetZer0: Kod = Kerbal God] Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff This is KSC to Major Kerman You've really made the grade And KNN wants to know whose shirts you wear Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare This is Major Kerman to KSC I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different today [note by NetZer0: Must be a graphics update!! Bwahaha!] For here Am I sitting in a tin can Far above the world Planet Kerbin is green And there's nothing I can do Though I'm past one hundred thousand kilometres I'm feeling very still And I think my spaceship knows which way to go Tell my science officer I love him very much he knows KSC to Major Kerman Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong Can you hear me, Major Kerman? Can you hear me, Major Kerman? Can you hear me, Major Kerman? Can you.... Here am I floating round my tin can Far above the Mun Planet Kerbin is blue And there's nothing I can do.
  14. @Pachi3080: Cuteness is also a good argument. Will integrate that into the list.
  15. ...happened just yesterday. First time I had a good course to Mun. Everything went fine. Then, 100.000 kilometres above ground or so I decided to use time warp. Somehow, shortly before the surface, my PC began to stutter because something was blocking in the background - time warp didn't react anymore. So I crashed into Mun's ground with like 1200 metres / sec or so. Really annoying.
  16. Whoa! Whoa! Easy! I'm overwhelmed by the massive flood of replies here. Thanks for participating in my studies. @rryy: I will answer your questions about the snacks and total dedication in the original post. @LeonG17: Your argumentation is valid. I will integrate it into the original post. @TooManyErrors: Thanks for clearing me up, I knew that already, but now your posting makes sense. @Dictator Dan: Sharp observation. Will be integrated. Everyone, please stay on course of the discussion. Thank you. But please, further participation is greatly encouraged!
  17. Wahaha!! T3E, I laughed so hard about this, I spilled some hot tea over my keyboard. TooManyErrors, what do you mean by that?
  18. Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon, I've gathered you here today to give you a pseudo-psychological insight over the culture of the Kerbals. Todays topic is: "Why Kerbals are the better humans - a review on Kerbal society" For a long time I did not really understand Kerbal society, but then one afternoon it came to my mind that Kerbals may just be the better humans. I then gathered some data to support my thesis. In the following comparison I will state these facts: 1. Total dedication to science In comparison to mankind, Kerbals seem to have a total dedication for science! Have you ever seen an entertainment system aboard any Kerbal vessel? Everything aboard is strictly tech-orientated. Not even a simple card deck in one of the drawers! Or take a look into the VAB. I see many Kerbal technicians there, men with yellow and white helmets, scientists or guys with these glowing sticks. 2. Abstinence of women Also, there's a total abstinence of women in Kerbal society so that mating rituals don't take any of the valuable Kerbal time to further progress into space, compete and defeat mankind in a short time! 3. Abstinence of restrooms Taking a further look into Kerbal rocketry, I have the feeling there's an absence of any restrooms or portable toilets. By abstaining from any form of digestion, even more time is saved for science and rocketry. 4. Science until death, without fear Have you ever seen any Kerbal screaming in fear? Ah, of course you have. But these seem to be well-trained actor skills to bring a little drama to KNN (Kerbal News Network). In fact, the Kerbals are totally emotionless and totally fearless. They even fly with rockets which are damned to doom by eyesight. They never protest against any flying vessel they're assigned to. They do whatever you want. They never quit. 5. Experimental parts and higher tech level The Kerbals fly with parts mankind hasn't even used yet, e.g. Atomic Rockets. They fear no radiation, they fear no overheating. They build stations as big as whole asteroids or bigger. I even heard there are some Kerbals out there who simply let go from gripping their space station, floating around in Orbit freely! I have never seen any human doing this. 6. Costs The Kerbals have no cost limit. Government seems to support every dollar the Kerbals give away. Rocket explodes thirty times on first day of KSP? Absolutely no problem! 7. Low hunger / Only basic and cheap nutrition As we see, the Kerbals have a drawer aboard the spaceship titled "Snacks". But the note also states, they have already been eaten! This means that the Kerbals can endure a long time without any healthy nutrition, instead it even seems they can rely on fatty, unhealthy nutrition. As the crew doesn't protest against having no food aboard, I assume they have pre-eaten fatty snacks before the flight. By MockKnizzle - a participant of this ongoing thread - it was brought into the discussion that this could be a sign of photosynthesis which would also be a way to explain the green color of the Kerbals. 8. Physical construction of the Kerbals (brought in by LeonG17) They are very resilient. They can survive re-entry and supersonic free fall. And then they land on their head and survives, with no damage! They can also be dragged across the landscape by a thruster pack flying gone wrong. 9. Breathing / Leg room (brought in by Dictator Dan) They are very resilient. They can survive re-entry and supersonic free fall. And then they land on their head and survives, with no damage! They can also be dragged across the landscape by a thruster pack flying gone wrong. 10. Cuteness (brought in by Pachi3080) Pachi3080 notes that Kerbals are also very cute. From an analysis point of view, this is a real space advantage. Imagine a huge swarm of ant-like lifeforms to visit Earth. Would you stay diplomatic or stay a war? Aww, come on, don't hide your feelings! But then on the other hand imagine a lots of Kerbals visiting Earth. You would do everything for them. I know! 11. They ask no questions (brought in by JaySmoka) Kerbals never ask any questions, like humans. "Is this neccessary?", "Where do we go?", "How long will it take?", "Do we have enough food?" - typical human questions! Kerbals are like: "Woot!! A new rocket? With atomic engine that overheats? This is great stuff!! LEEEEEETTTTTT's RIIIIIIIIIIDE!!" 12. Head-Body ratio (brought in by Brabbit1987) It is possible that the Kerbals have very big brains. This is due to the ration between their head- and body-size. They could be incredibly smart if this reflects their real brain size. Humans on the other hand are very limited due to their average-sized skulls which offer no more space for big brains. 13. No government influence / Unity It seems the whole Kerbal Space Program is not influenced by any specific government, organization (except the "Program"). Even more, it seems the Kerbals don't even think in different nations. They know no racism as they are all equally green. This gives the Kerbals the opportunity to work together as a real team with no cultural misunderstandings to overcome. ----- Well, I hope you enjoyed my short analysis of Kerbal culture. As new evidence becomes imminent, I will integrate it into here. Or maybe you have even more evidence yourself! Post it here and it could be integrated into this report.
