  1. In my Campaigns page on the wiki, I mention that Jeb is a skiier and daredevil from Kornicopia.
  2. This is exactly the kind of stuff that needs to be populated in http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Campaigns
  3. Awesome awesome ideas! I updated my OP, but for those of you who have ideas to contribute, check out the new link for the list of campaigns and mission manifests on the wiki, and tell me there or here what you think! Feel free to fill in the blanks and follow the format thus far provided! http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Campaigns
  4. By the time any space agency is able to start manned planetary explorations, I'd imagine they would have computers doing it anyway, so mechjeb makes sense for complex ops.
  5. Makes sense to me to combine efforts. Feel free to fill in mission gaps on the program. A lot of these could get parked in the Challenges campaign section of the space program until we find a place for them in the mission progression timeline.
  6. Ok, so I'm trying to get a communications satellite into 350km orbit... I circularize the orbit to within a few hundred meters, and then I get ready to separate the last stage from my satellite. Knowing there's a bit of explosive force involved I wait until Periapsis and orient for retrograde and hit the decoupler. BAM! I find my AP and AE off now by 23,000m! Is there a better way to decouple once you've circularized your orbit? I want to avoid putting rcs on my satellite. Is there a less pushy way of decoupling?
  7. Feel free to remove the static fire tests. If you have other suborbital rocket missions to add, feel free too!
  8. I'm having way too much fun: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Campaign:_Age_of_Satellites stealing ideas from: http://www.space.com/11329-human-spaceflight-biggest-moments-50th-anniversary.html
  9. You should share your save and open it as a Challenge to have all three rescued and brought back.
  10. You are so totally right. My design had the LV-909 engine for the second stage. What a doht for me to insist otherwise. Sorry 'bout that. I corrected the wiki. I'm such a newb.
  11. Ok I've added some basic mission manifests to the campaigns provided. Check out the Tutorials section on the wiki and fill in stuff as you think best. Try to keep the format as simple as possible. The idea is to present goals, not necessary how-tos - unless you link to a separate how-to article.
  12. Let's start developing a near historical campaign then, as a community, and wikify it. I've started it here in the wiki Tutorials section, but hopefuly someone with higher rights can simply make a whole new root section on the wiki for Campaigns: http://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Campaigns
  13. Precisely. Essentially I'm asking the community here to develop a semi-official Kerbal Space Program and add to it as the game gets developed.
  14. Here's my stab at a running list: Unmanned: 1. Static Fire RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster Rocket 2. Launch RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster Rocket 3. Launch Two-Stage Solid Fuel Rocket 4. Static Fire LVT-30 Liquid Fuel Rocket 5. Launch LVT-30 Liquid Fuel Rocket Eastwards 6. Launch Two-Stage LVT-30 Liquid Fuel Rocket and Maintain 45 degrees Eastwards after 10,000m 7. Launch Two-Stage LVT-30 Liquid Fuel Rocket into Orbit ... Manned (Return Crew Safely): 1. Suborbital Flight Above 70km - First Man in Space 2. Orbital Flight With Periapsis Above 70km - First Orbital Flight 3. Orbital Flight With Periapis at 100km 4. Cicularized Orbit within 1km AP & AP Difference ...
  15. The unmanned version of the "cheapest" orbiter works well, with lots of fuel, and if one follows the wiki article's instructions, will get a total newb to orbit in the first few tries... well, maybe. It got me up there, and I'm a newb and had no idea what the blue ball thingy was for.
  16. Does anyone have a list of goals written out for their space program? I'm looking for an exhaustive list of missions that build up a player's familiarity with KSP and skill. I'm looking to make such a mission manifest a wiki article with links to tutorials describing each. Such a manifest might even be the index for the tutorial section of the wiki. Anyone want to offer such a program/goal manifest? Maybe such a manifest will become a standard mission manifest once KSP leaves the sandbox. You can now help with this project by going here: Kerbal Space Program Campaigns (Player Developed) https://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Campaigns Here is what is drafted so far. Feel free to add to it: Currently Campaign Mode has yet to be developed. Until then, the KSP player community offers the following campaign mission manifest to players looking to follow a near historical list of mission goals and milestone progression in the current sandbox: Age of Rocketry (Solid fuel rockets and ballistic missles) Space Race (First satellite, first man in space, first manned orbit) Age of Satellites (Orbital Mechanics 101: ComSat, WeatherSat, GeoSat, SpySat) The Kerbinai Program (First spacewalk, rendezvous and docking, first station) Probes and Rovers (Mun impact probe, orbiter, and rover) The Mun Race (First manned Mun orbit and return, first landing and return) Kerbollo 13 (Rescue missions and escape pod development) Kerbol System Exploration (probes to Minmus, Duna, and Eve, and multiplanetary probes) Kerbals in Space (Build Kylab, Build KIR, prepare them for deorbit when KSS is later built) The Shuttle Program (First spaceplane, Orbital Tugs, Spaceplane vertical takeoff into orbit) GPS Constellation (Launch a GPS constellation of 24 satellites) Kerbal Space Station (Build the KSS to house 10 Kerbals) Joolileo (Send a large probe to explore the Jool system, with a smaller probe for descent) Space Telescopes (Kubble Space Telescope, Mun remote observatory, and L4 Planet Finder) Budget Cuts (Rovers to Minmus, Eve, Dres, and Laythe) Sample Return Missions (Land and return robotic landers from Eve, Vall or Bop, and Eeloo) Civilian Spaceflight (Boat launch to space, Building a KerbX Space Center, Suborbital Spaceplane) Age of Expansion (Satellite Relay Network, Mun Station, Mun Base) Duna or Bust (Duna Satellites, First manned Duna landing) The Spacers (Manned planetary explorations, Joolian station, Eeloo telescope) The Daring Few (The first extrasolar ship to return home) The Colony (Build a space colony of 100 Kerbals) Where No Kerbal Has Gone Before (Build a Space Ark of 150 Kerbals leaving for the stars) Challenges (The Best of Player Challenges submitted on the KSP Forum) Much of the campaigns above I've gleaned from historical spaceflight milestones found here: http://www.space.com/11329-human-spaceflight-biggest-moments-50th-anniversary.html
  17. So if you're going fast enough, you could timestep...er warp through objects without colliding with them? Sweet! I wonder if its possible then to move a craft fast enough in KSP to actually warp through a planet...
  18. goodbye life. i have orbital maneuvers to master.
  19. I didnt think about using larger tanks, but if the challenge was just fewest parts at the cheapest it would be the x200 16 tank with command mod and aerospike as you suggest. Bravo. Are you able to achieve orbit to prove it? The design I mention in the article is able to get into orbit. I've done it several times with fuel even to return. Highest circular is about 80km. You need the second LVT30 for its power to do it though. The smaller engine just doesn't cut it. So far its the cheapest design into orbit. I can even get the unmanned one up easier than the manned design. Try it. And I know the collision challenge is tough. Thats why I want to offer it.
  20. Was wondering if these have been challenged: Simplest Orbiter: The cheapest, fewest parts orbiter to successfully orbit a Kerbal with periap above 70k and return safely. Mainly for updating the design used for the How to Get into Orbit wiki tutorial I wrote. Fastest Interceptor: If China can do it, KSP can. Build the fastest interceptor to destroy a satellite orbiting at 100km. Large Kerbol Collider: Kerbal scientists have pushed for decades to build larger and larger colliders for the exploration of science. Now they want to take their experiments to space to see if by creating the fastest head-on collision by two nuclear engines one could induce a wormhole to the mythical Sol star system rumored to be on the other end of the galaxy. Can you record the fastest orbital collision between two manmade objects - preferably the above-mentioned nuclear devices?
  21. All is well. I wrote up a Tutorial in the wiki since I couldn't find anything like it anywhere else. A simple how-to-orbit cheat sheet. After I downloaded the game I was playing for 9 hours straight, I missed lunch and dinner, and wife was going to bed. Now in my third night...
  22. Hello. Confession a new KSP addict here (thanks gaming friend who suggested it to me. I should have just said "no". ) 5 hours, 5 destroyed satellites, 1 dead satellite in orbit, and 12 dead Kerbals later I finally made it to a manned orbit...and only after watching a howto vid... and only after using up all my fuel to get there. (thankfully I realized this just in time and corrected my orbit to skim the atmosphere and have my Kerbal return via aerobraking only after 3 days in orbit, hungry, thirsty, and definitely needing to go to the bathroom). Most. Addicting. Game. Ever. and its still only in alpha. best $23 I've spent on any game imho. Someone needs to write up a simple HowTo on this forum with simple instructions to get into orbit with the cheapest and fewest stages and fewest parts. I did mine in 7 parts, no boosters. two stages. How to Get into Orbit: 1. Burn straight up until you hit 9900m 2. Roll east 45 degrees for the remainder. 3. Throttle down to 2/3 power. 4. When your apoapsis hits 70km (above atmosphere) cut your engines. 5. Near apoapsis, gimbal your craft horizontal to the ground 6. 10 seconds before apoapsis hit your throttle full until you get into orbit. Cut back as soon as the periapsis is above 70km 7. Enjoy the view. Edit:I wrote a tutorial here to help fellow newbies with getting into orbit the first time: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:_How_to_Get_into_Orbit
