  1. I was really looking forward to it but I have long grown out of MMO's There are things I like and also dislike but the thing that sets this apart from other MMO's is the leveling system which is really nice. For example I played one of the mage classes but you can still wear heavy armour and any weapon if you want without penalties. You can only have 5 spells in your quickbar at any one time. This may seem restrictive but this is how you level up your skills. YOu dont have to use the skills that are in the quickbar but as long as they are there, you will gain skill xp whenever you gain regular xp. Also at every 5th level you get to "morph" a skill. IE This healing spell can now either heal more or also replenish magika This works for the crafting system too. You can craft everything if you want (this will take skillpoints away from other skills at endgame though) However the crafting system itself is quite basic and theres no auction house system (unless you join a guild, then you get a sort of guild auction house) I dont know if theres a mod for it or not but the inventory system is really clunky. ITs like skyrims inventory system in that everything is in a list rather than icons. Its got an interesting system that rewards you for actually exploring (you find some loot and lorebooks) The rate of experience gain is aakin to the original world of warcraft. You gotta work for your levels! I personally dont like the combat system. I prefer the oldschool "click on target" and it autoattacks and you use skills as and when but this is just personal preference I dont know how on the ball you are with elder scrolls lore but this game takes place in the second era when molag baal is being a nuisance. All the quest dialogue is voice acted which would be a nice touch if the quests didnt suffer from that MMO syndrome of "pick up all the quests, do them all by following the markers on the map, then handing them in" So you dont really pay any attention to the quest dialogue (as in any other mmo i ever played) The problem I find is, for me, its just another mmo. You run around and get experience and maybe craft some stuff...but thats essentially the gameplay it just doesnt feel like an immersive elder scrolls game. I'm sure its actually really good but like I said, MMO's just dont cut it for me any more. HOWEVER! I have only just reached level 10 and unlocked pvp so that may redeem it (i'm quite competetive so I want to investigate the pvp system more)
  2. This looks like so much fun i might have to participate! Nicely laid out site. The only thing that bothers me (and its only a little thing really) Is the rewards for moho and eloo should be reversed as I struggle with moho but eeloo is easier (but that may just be me)
  3. Definatley need new ingame tutorials asap To align your orbits you will want to setup a maneuver node at the Ascending/descending node and play around until your inclinations match. When i first started playing, i knew the very basics of getting to orbit but everything else I thought was a case of "point at it and burn!" oh How i've learned. Even if basic physics was taught earlier in life there is still a difference between "physics 101" and orbital mechanics. I was taught the real basic stuff when I was 14 at school but never was it mentioned how stuff in space worked. Is there really a need to teach orbital mechanics in highschool/preschool?
  4. And there I was thinking it was going to be a kerbal attachment system mod discussion . I easily spend 95% of my time in kerbins SOI with 4% being on duna and the other 1% in various other soi. Spaceplanes and space stations quick and easy when u stay in Kerbin SOI. If i want to do something elsewhere I have to set aside a good 10 hours and plan a decent mission. All that time spent i nthe suns SOI and adjusting 10 crafts capture is very time consuming.
  5. I always find it to be weak joints, even with the new joints. Strut wings together and strut wings to main fuselage. The effect is doubled if the landing gear is directly attached to wings
  6. I think its definatley a case of the "thats how it works get over it" 's. Like I said, FAR fixes the atmosphere to be completley linear as well as calculating lift and drag correctly Heres a link to the FAR thread As an experiment, make a big flat square with wings and an engine. I guarantee you it will fly in stock ksp
  7. I had something accidentally work. But it only accidentally worked once! I slapped a quick(ish) plane together to see if I could get an orange tank's worth of fuel to orbit. It got up on the first attempt (and almost landed) but...I could never get it to space again, no matter what modifications i did or with the original "accident" I have no idea what changed I was never able to get it to space again. 90% of the time it didnt even make it off the runway That was an old design though, before I knew how to intake spam and build a functional ssto. Might have to attempt it again when I get home
  8. Anthing under 10km will cause extreme drag/brick effect due to kerbins unique atmosphere. Add to that the wierd and wonderfull way that ksp currently calculates lift and drag, you really cant compare it to IRL aircraft You can always give FAR a try but I find it a bit extreme without a joystick I really wish there was a FAR lite
  9. This is the sort of thing I was after too which i touched on in a thread of mine http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/71514-More-interactive-science-experiments (these sorts of suggestion threads always seem to go unnoticed ). I know career mode is unfinished but it would be awesome to get actual real world science and data (as well as the humurous descriptions we get at the momen)from proper experiments and interaction than just right clicking and hitting "DO SCIENCE" this is something that would add a whole new reason to play career mode. As it stands at the moment I get bored halfway through career because its just sandbox delayed. Its good at first but without the challenge of currency or the lure of solid science theres just no reason for me to bother with career mode. When i first played career mode the most fun I had actually came when I unlocked plane parts and explored kerbin, and I mean actually explored it not just farming biomes for science. Career mode needs an incentive as a reason to explore. Without it there will forever be "I have farmed mun and minmus, now what do i do?" threads. Kerbin is still my favourite place to explore just for the sheer diversity. Nothing more satisfying than sending and expedition to one of the polar mountain ranges and pretending to do science experiments. Thanks to kethane I now have the infrastructure to run a plane on duna so I can start having an explore there, but I doubt its as interesting as kerbin I'm also going to agree with vger on this one. As it stands at the moment yes maybe it is a babysitting experience but only because the only resource is science. I dont think anyone benefits from starting with the current career mode than they would starting with sandbox. I personally found career mode very un intuitive (in regards to obtain science and doing experiments). Sanbox is far more in keeping with . Much more hilarious things happen in sandbox than career. I remember the good ol' days of slapping random parts together and hoping it gets to space As it stands from a semi-experienced player. KSP is far more about the engineering of your spacecraft than actually exploring space (the ARM patch is a step in the right direction that provides a nice piloting excersise/objective) I Would love to see it bought closer to a 60/40 split in favour of engineering.
  10. A webcam is the common way to take images of the planets but the method involves taking a movie and stacking each frame together to bring out the detail, you dont want to be taking single shot stills. You may be able to get a half decent live view with a webcam for all to see. Try using some different software that allows you to adjust the gain/exposure settings. Something like Orion AmCAp might work (dont know about the legitimacy of this link, i have mine on a disc). As its a dob mount you will need someone to keep track of the object so everyone else can see it on the monitor. TBH I'm surprised your webcam can pick up stars and jupiters moons (although your scope is probably twice the size and length of mine) but if you turn the gain/exposure down they will fade out and you will get some more details on the bands on jupiter. Raw Footage from the image at the bottom of tmy post Like I sort of said previously some cams/software combinations do have an exposure setting of sorts The orion AMcap software I have comes with a myriad of settings to play with but webcams are only good for planetary viewing due to the brightness of the planets. Theres no way a webcam will pick up the faint light from deep sky objects let alone have the resolution to make out details. Heres my latest attempt (after 2 years) of jupiter. Its somehow in black and white but the size of the disc really is down to my lack of magnification. Downside of my scope its great for deep sky viewing but doesnt do as well with planets or photography. I have to work with what I got Notice the difference between this pic and the raw stuff I managed to capture. plus with 640x480 worth of pixels and a very low exposure (to bring out details) means theres no moons in the picture.
  11. With my current scope, my webcam barely picks up Jupiter. The 2.5x barlowe I have plus the cam really is the limit of my scope and it just doesn't pick up Mars Time for an upgrade
  12. Well theres no way I'm getting any images of mars with my current equipment I must say though, mars is my new favourite view in the night sky. Normally I cant take my eyes off jupiter but mars is so....vibrant! Jupiter is very washed out and doesnt have much colour then you slew the scope round to mars and its so red. Typical South east uk viewing. Been hot and sunny all day, sun goes down, fog sets in -.- I'm working in some imaging of Jupiter I did but as Its been 2 years since I have used this stuff it took me longer than expected to get set up and I still had issues with the camera plus it started getting cold on the roof of a 20 story building when your still wearing work gear (Pants and a shirt ). I highly recommend looking at Mars. It's only gonna look smaller the longer you wait, and if you have a scope like mine then your gonna struggle to make out any details if you wait to long
  13. DUDE! that sounds awesome....but thanks for the spoiler
  14. I wanted to say meteorite but they look identical. A hair hasnt somehow made its way onto the mirror?. Are these quite short duration photos? At the top of that first pic is a nice cluster ( im not experienced enough to know which cluster) I bet it would look great through a telescope
  15. After reading this thread I have been inspired to dig out my telescope and get a shot of mars tonight as its at opposition (well it was a few days ago i think). Fortunatley where I live in the UK seems to be the only part in the whole country that has lear skies.
  16. Thread Bump. These are all from Xmas 2012 (wow was it really that long ago...I need to get the telescope out more!) When I got an Orion Solar system imager thingy I still dont have all the equipment I need Plus trying to image saturn shows the limits of my telescope/lense collection. I could also do with a motor drive. These were taken by using the hand controls to keep stuff in focus. The moon. Potato [these are two seperate images. If i dont put this message here they look like one really badly put together image] And my first attempt at jupiter [cropped] (still getting to grips with the software and stacking etc) And an attempt a couple weeks later I think. Unfortunatley my laptop died late last year so I cant actually hook up the camera any more EDIT: And the obligatory "iphone camera through the eyepiece" picture of jupiter and 2 moons
  17. There was one somewhere a while ago of forum member pictures I will have a quick dig [Edit] Found quite a recent one. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/69207-Showcase-show-of-your-space-pictures%21%21/page4?highlight=space+pictures
  18. Ok thanks guys. Time to put some names in a bowl and draw one at random. I'm going to exclude lord of the rings and hitchikers guide to the galaxy. LOTOR because theres a film about it thus ruining the plot for me and Hitchikers because I'm under the impression its a bit on the silly side?
  19. I jsut want to butt in here and ask a quick question. If i were to orbit the moon (our lunar moon not that crazy mun in the game) at x vlocity that on paper with no other bodies would give me a perfect circular orbit of y kilometers. If we then plop earth nearby would that change our perfect circle to a slightly eliptic orbit? and be destined to have a permanent eliptic orbit as long as the earths gravity is taken into account. Or is it closer to ksp physics in that, lunar gravity is so much stronger at that altitude, that the earths gravity has no hope of doing anything? A side question as well (as I'm here) If my first statement turns out to be true would that mean if i left an object orbiting the moon that various factors would eventually cause it to get pushed closer and closer to earths gravity? or does it all cancel itself out. IE if the object is in a clockwise equitorial orbit solar winds would cause it to gain velocity at one point in the orbit but at the exact opposite point it also slows it down therefor keeping the orbit stable? I'm just asking questions here so if I'm spouting a load of crap please be nice. Thats why I'm asking these questions
  20. Ok. I will be straight here. I dont read all that much (i read alot of non fiction) and the fictoin I do read tends to be based on something i have either watched or played. So far my list of books read only really constists of Dune (only the original one when i was quite a bit younger) A bunch of warhammer 40k books. All the Halo novels and as of last night. Metro 2033. With metro being by far my favourite and none of the later metro books having a solid translation into english I'm looking to pick up something new that isnt based off of a game or film (or has inspired such). Something that I have no idea about. In the past I havnt bothered to pick up books because I had no idea if I would even like them because I had no prior knowledge of that books "universe" but after reading metro and seing just how completley different it is from the game, it makes me want to broaden my horizons. Now I'm quite fussy I think. I dont want it to be really "hard" sci fi. I'm quite happy for there to be innacuracies but what I dont want is a whole chapter explaining how any sort of FTL drive works but I am intruiged by varous races and sci fi culture. Think mass effect but in book form. Also It doesnt have to all be war and conflict and massive space battles (a little bit of conflict never hurts though *pun*) but I dont want full out space politics. I'm quite happy to read about some poor chap thrust into a quest to save the world (see:metro 2033) I did try to pick up some work by Ian Banks but just didnt get on with them (maybe thats because I was about a decade younger). TBH...I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Maybe thats why I always pick up stuff based on/in the universe of games or film. It would be a nice change to just pick something up and be amazed like people used to be before video games melted our brains. Keep in mind, Whatever I decide to purchase will probably decide weather or not I try any other non fiction so be carefull
  21. D Politics. Although im in the uk I expect the same can be said for any democracy. More people will complain about the homeless than lack of space travel. Amd also im no politician but I dont think its very simple to just tale funds from welfare and put it somewhere else like that *clicks fingers*. Like I say to everyone who complains about the way their country is run. If u really care for It that much then take a career change and get yourself voted in. If thats not for you then just vote for the guy who fits your criteria. Democracy
  22. Sorry, only just seen the edit . For that pic of jupiter I used a 2.5x barlowe and an orion web cam imager thingy You will need a proper dslr or ccd for deep space stuff though. I much prefer the planets atm because they are easy to find and i just spend hours watching them and their moons move through the sky. For planets zoom/focal length is far more usefull than speed (f/10 etc) as the planets are plenty bright
  23. With the advent of tweakables it may be a bit easier now. I found that it was due to the suspension sagging. The heavier carts will sit lower therfor causing the docking ports to be miss aligned. Try locking the suspension in the SPH/VAB or do your best to get the weight balanced across all your rovers. Another trick i used was to find a slight incline/decline and use it to angle the docking ports. it is possible (as you can see) but it is quite fiddely Make sure you turn the brakes on. Sometimes you can force it by reversing and ramming.
