  1. Yeaah what I eventually did was sending another spacecraft and dock with it, transfer all the data and return, but that's not the problem as I did this right away I finished gathering science, the problem is landing on an atmospheric body, say I went to duna, collected science and wanted to return to kerbin with very little fuel, my lander has to withstand the heat, or also consider aero-braking in jools atmosphere, this is my problem. Anyway! Thanks every for trying to help, you guys really did give me some ideas!
  2. Hello everyone! I made a lander that can get refueled, it's built of 3 crewed capsule (mk3 cockpit,,I guess?) and a big fuel tank underneath it with two small fuel tanks on the sides, srapped with two LV-N's, I did 1k science mission just using this lander, got refueled twice, and it's now orbiting minmus, the problem is that it doesn't really have any heat absorbing stuff, and LV-N's are really expensive, is there a way to use an efficient lander that can also withstand re-entry heat? Thanks in advance!
  3. I've done an Eve return mission a while ago actually, I don't recall what version wat but I'm guessing either 0.18 or 0.19, Add to that, I'm playing KSP since .16 and I still haven't done Eve Return mission in 1.0.2 , In the meantime I have a kerbal stranded on eve screaming HELP LOL!
  4. Mainly for docking, as you said, fine tuning orbits too! And I guess for making the spacecraft more stable. I also used them for rovers to provide downforce, These are the uses for RCS for me
  5. Yeah, did land quite a few times, but never tried to leave! Although I have took off from Eve and returned to kerbin, tylo is, by far the hardest body to land/take off from, for example, on Eve there is an atnosphere that helps you land without using fuel ( if you designed it well ), and then take off with full fuel, on tylo, you land using rocket power, then you send another spacecraft to refuel it on the ground, then take off, take in accout that taking off is somewhat hard-ish ( easier than Eve ), you simply go up a couple thounsand meters, then go completely horizontaly, Boom your in Orbit!
  6. in my opinion, no need for trial and error, or even mechjeb, just ask the awesome community, that's why it's made! to topic, I usually Aerobrake at 118km to get to laythe, anything above ( until 125km ) will get you further away until Pol, Have fun and be sure to make a topic showing us your success!
  7. I hope I helped to discover this ( for who didn't know ). and no, this is the first time I see those stuff.. I don't watch youtube videos for KSP except Scott and sometimes Kurt.
  8. Hello there everybody! how you feeling today?! today I was building a big mothership to Jool, and like anyother person, I put stuff together and if it goes great I let it be, if not I re-design, anyhow, I *accidentally* right clicked on the light, and guess what showed up! Yep! Tweakable colours! OMG! *P.S: I don't know if this has been in game since tweakables were presented, but I just found this out today..* *Posting pictures later, got no time right now, If anyone could, it would be great *
  9. I did takeoff, but didn't return to kerbin, I had to use the jetpack (Lol) to get just above the atmosphere, and note: I took off from 2km high, meaning I was near sea level.. god it was hard!! here it is:
  10. Hey everyone, Just had a though: there is planets in KSP, and they Must have something to make them 'special'. so, what planet do you think is special? why? what made you say 'wow'..? those kind of question's.. and uh, yeah, post pictures!! *P.S: you can choose moons, too! well, I'll start first. I love duna, I just can't resist it's beautiful colour, it's the 1st outer planet for me to visit back in .17, I was astounded! it's really our mars 'brother', the large Ice caps, high mountains! ( which makes it special, for me, ) and what made me say wow? back in .21 ( IIRC ) they changed the Mun, Duna and eve, also kerbin?, anyhow, Duna got a better look, more bumps, less flat areas, more mountains, and THAT mountain, god it was 7650m high! I re-loaded the game like 6 times to get a pin-point landing near the top, ( well not really near.. but enough for me haha! )
  11. Probably Moho, So far 5 kerbals has been Killed.. By that big rock, two rovers broke up when landing ( ran out of fuel and crashed @ 50m/s. Last visit was in .21 IIRC.. No matter what! It doesn't agree landing my modules!
  12. Pol, defintely Pol! The view is astounding, you can see all the moons orbiting jool, snd it has these 'poop' shaped rocks haha xD!
  13. Scott Manley, Scott Manley, and Danny! I 'liked' kurt when the game was fresh, now I think he goes really far, making the video longer and more boring, he is kind off playing the 'noob' style, or maybe 'slow and lazy' , I like how Scott does stuff, clean and interesting! also he adds some basic and general things to the video, making it far more interesting!
  14. Here you go: STOCK ONE! http://www./view/1ir6fkq3muc33c1/Spike%201.craft
  15. Ok then! I'll put the stock one when I come back, cheers!
  16. did it work at last or not? if not I can go and remove the part, then upload it again !
  17. Thanks both of you! uhm, it's very *rare* that you get spawned into the rover, but it happened to me and the solution is to get in the seat again then leave it, this will put him out of the rover! and, please post it here if you are going to use it on laythe, I'd love to see it in action and what others come up with. good luck!
  18. Kerbal Engineers yesterday, sat down and said: " Jeb needs a new car! in fact, he wants it to be a race car! " And then they started designing, this is what they came up with, a rover that looks like a 'race car' so jeb won't go to space on minmus, not today! .. This rover is capable of doing everything! it's look is decent, has all the equipment you need, and most important, can carry 6 kerbals with full protection! If you flipped by mistake ( by mistake xD ) it will automatically flip again to be level on the ground ( that's why it's curved! ), without anyone killed/something destroyed. It has 2 mystery goo containers, 6 or 4 Xenon tanks, 6 seats with a perfectly middle seat so you can control it, docking port underneath, all temp/grav/acc/barometer science stuff, an antenna, kerbal engineer, two lights at front, two at the rear, 2 solar panels that fold! and finally 2 ION engines ( it's there for style, but you will be surprised what it does in low gravity! ), so without further a due, let's see the ' Spike 1 ' . ION engines can actually 'push' it a little, it increases the speed by 0.6 m/s! helpful up hills! -Get a basic look at it, some of it's equipment here and at kerbin! -You can see here the stuff inside the rover. -A shot from the back, with ION engines on. -Finally all the stuff it has/weight are showed at the right. *P.S: Action group are - 1. toggles steering, (locking or unlocking the rear wheels ). 2. toggles ION engines ( on or off ) 3. Fold/Unfold solar panels. craft download WITH MODS! ( Kerbal Engineer ): http://www./view/f4cfng5moecdncp/Spike%201(3).craft craft download STOCK : http://www./view/1ir6fkq3muc33c1/Spike%201.craft *P.P.S : I have the launcher that llifted this thing all the way from kerbin to landing on the Mun, so uh, the first stage has some wiggly problems, deal with it or simply make a new launcher ! *P.P.P.S: A kerbal cannot get inside this rover, well he can but it's hard, so if you want to sit on any of those seats just fly in the jetpack, stand above the rover's roof and click on the seat you want to sit on, same goes to the rear seats, and when you leave the seat, you'll magically get up on the roof ! ( sometimes in the rover ). Please post you thoughts, PRO's and CON's.
  19. what I did to make a good base, is: send a probe into orbit of the Mun, make it's orbit @ 8 km and when you circularize you will see kind of 'good details ' of the ground, usually the best 'flat' areas are found in the equator, when you see a good spot, mark it on the map ( with your eye, obviously ) and wait till next orbit so you can start burning to land, I did this every time I made a base, and trust me, good results ;D!
  20. I found out ( a long time ago, maybe in .17 or .18 ) that if I want to decrease my looooooong burn in space ( you know, in space you cannot use physics time warp, only in atmosphere!) BUT I found out that if you hold alt and press on the time warp button it'll toggle physics time warp! and BOOM!
  21. So today I went to laythe, when I was in orbit I made a maneuver that will help me to kind of set my trajectory to where I want it to be, as we all know landing on an atmospheric body is pretty hard, I mean I kept re-loading my save just to correct my trajectory so I land where I want. I though, why not to make something in the game, that kind of 'predicts' where I will end up. for example, If I made a maneuver and chose retro-grade, the ending of the blue path will turn to red and simulate where I would end up. this way I won't have to re-load or waste time, I know I know there is charts and stuff for this, but why not be in the game itself, and simple enough!
  22. Hello! I used Aero-braking to get captured into Jools orbit, Laythe and Tylo. so far I only put my periapsis when I arrived between 124 - 130 km to get captured into either jool's orbit or tylo. and To get captured by laythe I simply put 118-120 km. I can't tell you the altitude to slow down from 5000m/s to 2000m/s. You should explain more. do you want to LAND on jool or just to get captured? or maybe land/orbit other moon?
  23. Hey There Kerbalnaut! Congrats on the landing thing! I've been playing KSP since .17 ! what I mean is I'm an experienced player, I love duna so much! in .19 I built a really big base there.. just because.. it's beautiful *__*! ok, back to topic,( Just for your info, when your planning on Further missions ) when I landed on duna, for the first time in .18.. I landed there using only parachutes.. which is.. yeah.. not enough.. at all! and now, What I do is, send a Transfer module ( CM ) like you did, that is capable of reaching duna ( yours is capable of reaching beyond.. to Eeloo! ) and then dock the lander with it, generally my lander weights 9 - 12tons max! I think yours is a bit 'heavy' for those engines, Also I'd really like to have 2+ TWR, you can left off from the atmosphere quickly so you won't be ' inefficient ' in taking off. follow these steps: -1: Dock with your CM. -2: Transfer to Duna. -3: Aerobrake ( BUT BE CAREFUL! Aerobrake at 13.5 - 16 Km, this Used to put me in orbit, ) -4: Make a Stable Orbit ( I recommend to put it at 60 km, the lander can pretty much reach it easily.. ) -5: Un-dock, begin burning Retro-grade ( tip: use the Map first, mark your landing site *always make your trajectory go a bit further than your landing site*, then use maneuver node and begin burning ). -6: Burn until you reach 12-9km, deploy Rogue Chutes ONLY. -7: When you decelerate ( reach 350-400m/s, or less. ) deploy your normal chutes, that way you won't increase your G-force so much, that will rip your ship apart!. -8: After all of the chutes get's FULLY deployed, start burning and keep your velocity between 14 - 20m/s, when you see your shadow ( or lights, at night.. ) closing to the ground, increase your throttle until you reach 4-2 m/s, and BOOM! you landed on Duna without causing trouble! ( DON'T FORGET TO REPACK YOUR CHUTES! do this by EVA'ing your Kerbal, Get close to the Chutes and press the right click button on the mouse, click repack. do this to all chutes, and set them to be the 1st stage ( on the left, you can see staging, drag all the chutes and put them at the top ). -9: Gather science, science and science! EVA reports! Surface Samples! Plant a Flag! Jump around! Crew reports!.. -10: wait for the perfect time to return to kerbin, use Ksp-olex ( google it ). now, like docking near kerbin, launch and start your gravity Turn WHEN the brightest part of the atmosphere is done! ( it's located under the Altimeter ). -11: dock with your Transfer ship, Transfer to kerbin and set your Periapses to be 20-30 km. Aerobrake and deploy your chutes!
  24. @JiWint, no way! I'm playing KSP since .17 ( played .13 before ) and I can say that I'm a professional at this ( I returned from eve, landed on every celestial body ) so I don't think I'm not good at designs lol! but.. they may have changed something in aerodynamics that 'flips' the capsule, not always though, I returned 2 times without flipping but used ASAS to keep the nose up, if I turn it off It will flip
  25. Building a huge station around kerbin/duna. sounds simple enough but it took me a really long time.. and the second is is obviously taking off and returning from eve !
