  1. Chiming in! KSP 1.0.2 Windows 8.1 x64 GTX 760 - Driver version 350.12 Resolution 1920x1080 DVI Cable I've tested KSP with "-force-opengl" only and worked fine here, I can also access the settings menu. There's a noticeable lag even with tiny rockets on Kerbin. This lag is not present using DirectX and, on previous versions, it was much much smaller on OpenGL. Now, all this discussion about HDMI / DVI made me recall an issue I had... Some time ago, I used to connect my monitor with an HDMI cable (my monitor have both HDMI and DVI connectors) I've noticed something curious.. Every time I launched a game or a fullscreen program for the first time, while the game/program was trying to identify my resolution, it would switch back and forth between 1920x1080 (my res) and something around 640x480.. This happened with every game, but only the first time I launched it. Once the resolution was identified and saved, every subsequent launch would be fine. Another weird behavior was that, once my monitor entered standby (when I didn't use my computer for some time), when I brought it back on from standby by moving my mouse, all my desktop icons and opened windows would have moved and resized to fit a 640x480 screen. This happened about 1/3 of the time. Trying to figure out what was wrong, I've tested it on other computers and with other HDMI cables... It didn't matter what Windows version it was on, what HDMI cable and if the monitor drivers were updated or using windows' stock driver. On Linux Ubuntu however, this issue did not happen. Finally I found some discussions about this suggesting that it was a HDMI Handshake issue. Apparently, everytime the monitor "blinks" or gets turned off (either by actually being turned off, or getting in standby, or even that quick 'blink' during a resolution change), the monitor and graphic card needs a new 'Handshake' and, on the really tiny, microsecond moment between the signal being reestablished and the handshake, the computer doesn't know the monitor resolution and falls back to a "safe" 640x480 resolution. From what I understand, this handshake has partly to do with HDCP authentication, thus is not present if you're using non-hdmi cables (ie: DVI, VGA) Perhaps KSP/Unity is having trouble with multiple resolution changes during a short time, but why is it affecting only OpenGL and only now in 1.0.x? Well, probably it's a completely different issue, but I wanted to share this just in case...
  2. Soooooooo.... without control surfaces or any sort of apparent engines, he basically designed a very good looking metal kite?
  3. Well, you'll need to do better than that to have one commit their funds to this... Have you made any plans? What are your proposed timeline? Do you have a base of operations or should we fund the construction of a space center? What is your goal? Have you hired or are already looking for personnel? Engineers, Scientists, Pilots.. Will you prospect possible mining goods for resale? What do we get for our money? Can you send my son to space? Can you send my mother-in-law to space? And leave her there?
  4. Interesting idea! As for the title, you can edit your post and then click "Go Advanced", it will let you edit the thread title
  5. Nice! Keep tweaking your .cfg file and soon you'll learn what each parameter do and how they affect your model and nodes and you'll get it just right! Keep trying
  6. My guess is that Squad would make something like: 1.0.3 = Fix the heat gauge memory leak and maybe any non-atmo related bugs. That would/could be released really soon 1.0.4 or 1.1 = Aero balance. They would take their time to do this (if they even do this), instead of rushing in.
  7. Favorite car.... hmmm, now that's a tough one... I would love to get my hands on an Ascari A10: As for 'sensible' cars, I tend to like cars that are a bit 'different' (but not too much)... Like my own car, a Citroen C4 Coupe, with its 'chopped' back and fixed steering wheel hub (pic from google, not actually my own car):
  8. Time travel is an interest of mine, not in a scientific, but a fictionalized way.... One issue that I often mention when talking about time travel is a sort of "Universal coordinates". Traveling back in time, let's say, 10 years, would put you in that exact spot in space 10 years ago, but because the Earth, the Solar System our galaxy moves about, you end up in space, in the middle of nowhere... About the "objective of travel" paradox, I believe it wouldn't be an issue if you're going back in time to act as an observer. Since you don't change anything, you're just acquiring knowledge for your post-timemachine self, the paradox doesn't kick in. But I wonder how thing would go if you unintentionally changed the course of history. Accidentally killing baby Hitler wasn't your objective, so it wouldn't affect your need to build a time machine, but you end up changing history. Now, I wonder about two possibilities: 1- You can travel back in time, but once there, you cannot travel forward (back to the present). Basically, if you make any significant changes to the past, you alter the course of history. There's a possibility that your life would be different, so when traveling back to the new present, who lived your different life? An automaton, a husk of yourself? Think about 'Back to the Future', when Marty goes back to his alternate family, where his father and siblings are successful, he gets there without knowing this, like he missed all those years, but his family acknowledge him as being part of their history, so... who was living his life? To prevent that, you can't go back to the present, once in the past, you're stuck there. 2- You can go back in time, change history and live there to see the outcome of your meddling, but once you come back to the present, you're back to your 'original timeline', where the changes you made never happened and everything is back as it was before. Can create some interesting mechanics there... Anyway, I'm starting to ramble...
  9. aaaaaaaaaand we have a mod for that! There you go: kOS
  10. But that white-orange-grey scheme kinda defines your parts They are simplistic but beautiful... I quickly slapped something here, they are NOT meant to be submissions, far from that, they are all wrong, just throwing ideas...
  11. Quite a restricted pool... I voted "Have a TV, live alone", but I actually live with my fiancee... Back when I was young, I had a tv and cable on my bedroom, along with my computer, so TV was on whenever I was home.. As I got older, I got fed up with all the clutter on my bedroom (not to mention the pesky "standby" light that looks like a darn floodlight when you're trying to sleep), so I gradually lost interest in TV.. Now, I have a TV, but me and my fiancee don't really care much for TV, so only Netflix for us...
  12. Holy smokes man! First successful docking and you done it without RCS? That's like saying "Hey, I just learned how to drive, and I won 24 hours of Le Mans on my first drive!" Ok, I may be exaggerating, but that's impressive!
  13. It's not about being a "...", but about the difficulty to maintain modpacks, especially large ones... Besides the already mentioned license issues, modpacks tend to make users confused... "where should I seek support?".. even if both the modpack 'author' and the original mod authors are willing to help, this splits the 'knowledge base'... Another issue is that several mods are updated constantly, especially right after a new KSP release... Having to update and re-download a large modpack daily, or even several times a day, can be more unnerving than installing every mod individually.. Also, with several mods filling similar roles (for instance, Majir's Kethane and RoverDude's Karbonite), I've yet to see two players using the exact same mods. I understand -- and commend -- the OP good intentions, but modpacks often create more problems than solve
  14. Trusses, blue spheres and large solar panel? Kosmos comes to mind, with it's enormous Balka solar panels... overall textures are blueish grey...
  15. Awwwwwwwwww man! While I understand and agree with your point, it does sound Kerbal and now I want to see that! Idle animation would be nice.. Kerbals looking around (but not moving), somewhat loosing balance if bumped, etc. I would love to see that stock. Maybe someone then could make a mod to give them more free will in addition of the stock idle animations, perhaps with a toggle somewhere to avoid accidents like RainDreamer stated... would be cool, but something this complex would be better as a mod.
  16. That statement right there reveals your cunning lie! That is, quite clearly, Minmus!! Liar! Are you even a pilot? Seriously now, that's a really beautiful pic!
  17. If you're using ATM, that's normal.. ATM crashes a lot with this mod while it tries to do the initial texture conversion. It took me 8 crashes/restarts for ATM to convert all textures, but once you passed this initial nuisance, KSP will load fine and RetroFuture will work well
  18. Usually I grab my phone and browse 9gag or I go fridge-hunting in the kitchen
  19. Je suis Charlie. Eu sou Charlie. (portuguese) My thoughts are with the victims' families and all the lovely french people.
  20. Hahah, yeah, I know... To be honest, not even I use them all that much
  21. I love the Cargo Transfer Bags mod... They go so well with my *ahem* Pallet System...
  22. I used to have a bunch of mods installed, always nearing the dreaded limit... Then I decided to bring an axe down... I realized I don't need 6 cone-shaped capsules, 4 fuel/oxy tanks with the same size and volume and 8 engines with roughly the same thrust/isp. Even with a bunch of parts, I noticed that I was always picking the same few parts when building my ships... So now, I only grab what I'll REALLY use from modpacks... Everything running fine with ATM Basic + OpenGL
  23. Oops, been a while since I last checked this thread Those are from Nertea's Near Future Solar pack Done! I've upped them to dropbox, hopefully they'll work I've never actually tested with CSS, I don't know.. But they work well with KSOS, assuming they don't have wildly different dimensions, they should work well with CSS Cheers!
  24. Neat idea!! If the kerbal was lost/killed in space, it would pop up as a regular orbiting kerbal rescue, but if it was killed while on the ground or sub-orbital trajectory, it would pop up as a ground rescue... While at it, the kerbal could have a flare, so you see the colored smoke in the distance while searching around the mission area...
