  1. It can. They asked for more testers. They asked for testers several updates ago. This is not the first time. Plus them being in Mexico... means the 4th has no special significance to them... well some of them. Are there any Americans on the Dev team... I thought there was one but everyone else was not. I could be wrong. The last update came out of the testing phase in mere days. This one is a bit bigger... and has taken a week so far. My point it we can't predict when it will come out. It could be now. or now. or now... or next week... or next month.
  2. I don't really know much about their stats. Also I get the feeling that whole system is about to get a major overhaul.
  3. When a went to Minmus I made a rover that more or less flew rather than rove... Sure it could rove but. For short distances and base construction rovers are great. Driving long distance though... is a test of will. I have on occasion driven for hours. I've crossed the large dark craters on the Mun. Even my most stable rovers can't go very vast. One bump and flip flip boom. And you can't just point them in a direction and leave it. They'll veer off course of or go down a hill and... well... boom. They are slow short range devices and that's just the way it is.
  4. I suppose... Crew management is the stepping stone to crew training. How are we supposed to train our Kerbals to gather resources without... resources? So unless they think it'll be easy to add that later... It would be important to have it in before crew training.
  5. they were working on resources. Then they announced only a little... the fuel part would make the update. (.20) Their stated reason was they wanted to focus more on campaign and felt the building of infrastructure was close to being out of scope for the game and was not a core mechanic. then even fuel resource production got cut and we haven't heard anything more about it. So while you may think "delaying it to focus on campaign" doesn't make sense... that is the reason they have said. Also a think Harvester was the main guy on resources and he's taking some time off. But I think this is drifting off the topic of .21...
  6. All indications were that the basic working structure of resources was all but done. Distribution of resources. Parts to detect and gather resources. parts to process resources into fuel. But resources was going to be a part of a larger "grouping" of features that included buildings and infrastructure. resources were going to provide the materials to build such things. As far as I'm aware only the resources for making fuel was planed for .20... then it got delayed for an unknown reason. They've been putting off working on the campaign mode for a while. .21 is the first update to really make any progress toward campaign mode. Resources is integral to campaign mode as well just the latter parts of. Just like resources only matter to advanced sand box players. They'll come back to it I'm sure. It's just that resources are not important to either in the early game and important to both in the late stages. They've spent a lot of time on half the game. Sand box. Now it's time to work on the other half. Campaign. Once both are on par with each other then I think we'll get major work on resources.
  7. Not very long. My .18 save file got killed by .20 So my current save... I haven't been doing much with. I've made the beginnings of a space station that I plan to train my Kerbals on and use as a refueling station. So basically I'm waiting for .21...
  8. have something in orbit so you can see things close up. It's light and easy to get it way out to all the planets and moons. Before they added the information about the planets in game those science parts were the only way to find out such information. There are mods that all you to map the planets. Eventually the game will have resources and your satellites will be able to scan the planets to find where resources are most concentrated. Both of those require that parts with those functionality be added to them. So for right now... they serve the same purpose as everything else in the game... the "why not?" purpose.
  9. No. KSP can still only use one core and only 4 GB of Ram. Most of us have way more computing power in our computers than KSP can access. I should think that they would like to make KSP have access to it all... but I believe even Unity 4 doesn't yet allow for it and they are stuck until it does.
  10. Worked fine on Kerbin... landed with only one broken wheel on Duna. maybe 1m or driving and bam! flipped on back. I've stopped using those wheels for anything but the lightest of rovers on the lightest of gravity moons. This plan for a circular station was never going to work. I abandoned it rather quickly... Without rotating docking ports there was no way I'd ever get everything lined up...
  11. Well since the forum wipe I haven't posted much. Time to repost some of my old stuff as well as some new stuff. and my latest space station core
  12. I can't even build a plane that will simply fly...
  13. I know the foam is mostly white or maybe slightly yellowish when it's applied and gets more and more orange as it's exposed to sunlight.
  14. That'll make seat strapped to solid booster flights much easier.
  15. I've heard a few conflicting things concerning the Shuttle liquid tanks. I've heard they were painted and then they stopped so that's why they went from white to orange. I've heard that the above is incorrect and that they switched foams and the new one is orange whereas the old was white. I've also heard that the switch was out of environmental concerns and the new foam was heavier and all around not as good as the old. Anyway none of this has any effect in game. Certain things simply aren't simulated.
  16. old mods... and mods in general... can do weird things to the game even if you aren't using any of their parts on the rocket you're currently working on.
  17. There was a slight issue during the latter stages of launch that resulted in the loss of its RCS fuel and docking port. I have enough fuel to deorbit... but no way of slowing my decent. It wasn't meant to come back into the atmosphere. So he's going to be there a while.
  18. I wonder if we could get a break down of what precisely the QA phase is. Being a software engineering student I think it means scenarios testing... unit testing... basically computer run testing of the code that's been added. Then someone mentioned an experimental phase... this I think would be play testing. While the computer run testing can validate that the numbers they expect to get are what they are getting... play testing is needed to see if those numbers make the game more fun or are balanced or don't break other things.. So those are my guesses as to what they are doing. If previous updates can be used as a model then the update could be out in mere days. Or if they found something really wrong... and difficult to track down... it could take longer... much longer. Yeah! Testing!
  19. This what they do with every new build... .21 .20 .19 ... They work on it. Then at some point it's ready to go to the test team. Test team is them and a bunch of volunteers they recruited from here a few months back. They find bugs. They fix bugs. Once most of the bugs are worked out and they're reasonably sure there isn't something massively wrong... they release it to us. Then they start on the next one. Your brother is wrong.
  20. Having Photoshopped a few things... The buildings and the semi transparent light bloom on the games VAB is one layer and you take your sunset picture and put it as the background layer and hit save. The light bloom is now overlayed over the background. Not hard.
  21. That's part of a tree. Towers aren't for air traffic control. Air traffic control is in a 1 or maybe 2 story building with no windows next the radar. It's a dark room with people looking at radar screens. Towers are for Ground traffic control. The runway at Kennedy Space Center doesn't get much traffic. The runway at KSC is also not that close to the VAB. There is no tower close enough to the VAB for such an image to be taken. The KSP weekly pic is a silhouette of the Kerbal Space Center buildings with a real sky Photoshopped in.
  22. In campaign mode they are going to have goals that unlock as you go... like: Get to orbit. Orbit the Mun. Land on the Mun. In order for the goal Land on the Mun to unlock then the game has to have a way to know you achieved Orbit the Mun. That way for the game to know what you've done is the player tracking system.
  23. actively burning? I'm at the controls. I have the TV on... but if I'm doing a burn... I'm not clicking away or taking my eyes off the screen... There aren't burns long enough ... that serve any real purpose... and no craft stable enough... for me to let it burn in this game. The only thing I could imagine... would be an ion engine craft on an escape trajectory out of the system entirely where I'd just let it burn. I don't use mechjeb. That may be the difference.
  24. There isn't really any inside spaces that can be moved around in... or anything to do yet in there. So people tend to use space stations as either refueling stations or as just something that looks interesting. I made this core to a station to then attach fuel tanks to and use as a refueling depot. The 3 ports clusters didn't work very well. I recommend not doing that.
