NASA's Lunar Flashlight and Lunar IceCube missions!
Skyler4856 replied to Frida Space's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The US has demonstrated interest in private uses of celestial resources, so this may be the Sutter's Mill to launch a "Moon Rush". The indication of water may also simply be something done out of a desire to establish a purely scientific mission. -
For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Skyler4856 replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Ive always wanted to build skyscrapers that reach into the upper stratosphere, then use the temperature gradient to generate free electricity. -
If one is traveling at interstellar speeds, is it really the best idea to attempt to aerobreak? Solar sails seem like a cool concept that could apply here ??? Could one not simply predict how hydrogen compacts, then use the surrounding mass of the star to dictate the degree to which hydrogen contracts?

Pan Am Grip Shoes, A Cheap Substitute to Centrifuges?
Skyler4856 replied to HoloYolo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This would end up working a different set of muscles than would be utilized when standing. -
That's a bit like asking why a vacuum has lower pressure than a bottle of air? There's very little light causing the electrons in your photoreceptors to excite, therefore you're in the dark about the surrounding environment.

I cant tell you exactly what it is, but I know it when I see it.

IF NK shows even modest skill with rocketry, the UN will probably have to get involved, lest long range ICBMs be developed -

Jet fuel can melt steel beams -
I have a more or less autonomous bunker in the Canadian wilderness. Running water powered by a stream near by, Electricity powered by both solar and hydroelectric sources. Food from my garden, as well as what I can hunt. I have enough ammo to wage a small war, and have surveillance equipment wired up surrounding my . I also have plans to implement a complex tunnel system to allow me to quickly navigate my property. I plan to travel to this area via my Cessna plane, which I have disguised using sky blue paint.

Whether you're a serious "Prepper", or simply an individual who enjoys thought experiments, there is no denying that the concept of doomsday is a fascinating one. In this thread we shall discuss various methods to survive such a calamity, as well as the science behind these methods. The first strategy I would like to bring to light involves the conversion of plastic into oil.

Orbital construction sounds like a better plan.

How Long Would A Space Station Last?
Skyler4856 replied to OddFunction's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It is a possibility that one makes use of solar pressure to correct the orbit. One might also then be able to set up power generation from the solar sail; a reflective coating on the interior side focusing light on a thermocouple. -
Temperature on a macroscopic scale is the average kinetic energy of every single atom in a substance. Atom A has a kinetic energy of 1, Atom B has a kinetic energy of zero (Im aware that this isnt possible, just bare with me for sake of explantation). Both atoms collide, and cancel out. Both atoms have a new energy of 1/2, identical to that of the original average.

If you poke a hole in this platform, you dont die.

Please be kidding... And as to your post OP, interesting, kind of banal, but interesting...

Orbit with periapsis inside event horizon
Skyler4856 replied to Thomassino's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Here's a question: What would happen if one somehow split 2/3s of a proton using an event horizon? Would one be able to observe a free quark?
