  1. To be fair, combat in the Star Wars universe never made sense to begin with. They have target-tracking missiles, and yet starfighters still dogfight like it's the 1940s. Sheer pilot attrition should have brought down the Rebellion within a year. They have space battleships that can depopulate planets within days, and yet they hardly ever use orbital bombardment to force a surrender. Often they'll deploy pitifully small ground forces that have next to no air support. And worst of all, no matter how many times the above blows up in their faces, they go right back to their old habits as soon as the dust settles. Death Star got blown up? Build another one three times bigger. I love Star Wars, but like all space opera, it runs on rule of cool realistic physics and tactics. That's not a bad thing, it's just the nature of the genre.
  2. TIL there's a Dragon XL. I just assumed Starship would be taking over for lunar missions.
  3. Those seagulls will never know how lucky they were...
  4. "Inspections showed the core stage hardware, including its engines, and the B-2 test stand are in excellent condition after the first hot fire test, and no major repairs are needed to prepare for a second hot fire test" How do you go from MCF (major component failure) to "no repairs needed"? Am I misunderstanding the term? And wasn't the original test supposed to run for six minutes? Why down to four now?
  5. Technically, it orbits one star in a trinary system. Much like Vulcan. Still, very cool! I wonder how its orbit got so inclined.
  6. Got a contract to rescue a Kerbal stranded in a solar orbit. Turns out it's a *retrograde* solar orbit. This... will be interesting.
  7. No one's mentioned The Midnight Sky yet? - An Earth-like moon (with plant life and an oxygen atmosphere) orbiting Jupiter that Galileo apparently missed; also, they keep calling it a planet rather than a moon - "Uncharted space" in the inner solar system, which the Aether has to traverse after going off course - Giant asteroid clouds that sit in space like icebergs for the ship to hit - Real-time communication across interplanetary distances - Dust storms on Earth that apparently reach up into orbit They clearly weren't even trying.
  8. My point is, treaties don't mean much when the average joe can decimate planetary populations on a whim.
  9. The problem with that is, plenty of starships in Mass Effect (and similar settings) are privately-owned by individuals who never signed the treaty. What's to stop some disgruntled batarian pirate from launching a suicide attack on Eden Prime just for the sake of killing a bunch of humans? We see examples of this kind of behavior all the time in the real world, sadly. I can't imagine any such treaty being enforceable enough in space to prevent these kind of attacks.
  10. Bigger gear seems to have alleviated the problem, thanks! It still wobbles a bit, but I can correct for that enough to get off the ground safely. Weird, though... I've been doing just fine with the smaller gear until last night, even with payloads in the cargo bay.
  11. I'm having a weird issue in v1.10.1 where my SSTO is constantly bouncing up and down on the runway upon loading, and refuses to stop for minutes, if ever. If I try to take off, even if the bouncing seems to have stopped, it starts to drift off the runway within seconds, and I inevitably over-correct resulting in a crash. You can see how the game registers a speed of 0.1 or 0.2m/s, which is entirely due to the bouncing. I've flown this design to orbit and back several times, so I know it isn't a design issue (although my other, smaller SSTO seems to be unaffected). No idea what the problem is, it just started happening last night and I haven't been able to launch one since.
  12. If planet X got captured by planet Y, and got stuck in its L2 Lagrangian point for however long, would it be considered a moon of Y or still just a planet?
  13. I think some basic clouds are a no-brainer (I'm still amazed that we don't have them in KSP1!), but they should be a a setting players can toggle on and off if they choose. Ideally the options would be "no clouds", "simple clouds", and "complex clouds". Stuff like weather and light scattering can probably wait for modders, or perhaps for a post-launch patch.
  14. I got a contract to rescue a Kerbal who was stranded in Duna orbit. When I was halfway there, he apparently got too close to Ike and was flung out into a solar orbit.
  15. Didn't work, sorry. EDIT: It did work after all, despite the deadline text still appearing in the Mission Control building. Thanks!
  16. I have a mission on the way to Dres that will complete a contract, however said contract will expire about a year before I get there. I've tried and failed this specific contract several times and I really want to complete it, so I'd like to edit the save file to extend the deadline by maybe two years. I've found the following block of code in quicksave.sfs: How do I access and change the actual date that the contract expires on?
  17. The cinematic trailer seems to imply that yes, there will be proper storm systems and clouds visible from orbit, though we haven't seen any gameplay footage of Jool yet too my knowledge.
  18. I saw that movie. It didn't end well.
  19. Got a contract to recover a part from Ike orbit. I didn't know which part until I got there.
  20. I've been away from the game for a while and am just starting to get back into it. I've noticed that the part that worked like a strut (i.e. you could place the two ends, then drag a strut between them) appears to be missing now. Was it removed or am I encountering a bug? Would love to have that functionality back. All I see are the KAS cable and pipe attachments.
