I think the OP was talking about cockroaches living in her/his house... so I think the majority of us are discussing domiciliary cockroaches (~25 species) that have specifically adapted to human life/dwellings. Indeed, removing humans from the equation won't lead to an extinction of all cockroaches, but it would make life for the domiciliary roaches quite uncomfortable, most likely leading to extinction of at least some of the ~25 species. So a mockroach of sorts? (couldn't help it... I'll let myself out)

Thanks so much for this amazing mod Shaw! I've been playing around with it a lot lately because reflections make things pretty and tasty... +rep (wish I could give moar)

Thanks so much Redhaze! Yeah, I'm loving the refection effects that come with the latest version of the Texture Replacer mod. Here's a couple more of the kerbals enjoying the view from their spaceplane: If you would like to see more pics, I posted a collection of images from this mission in the SSTO thread here.

As 1.0 will bring so many (craft-breaking) changes, I finally got around to finishing at least one of my SSTO's that have been under development since... 0.23 or something. The Spectre spaceplane is quite a breeze to fly, can carry a decent payload to LKO (though haven't quite established just how many tons), has a custom designed cockpit and is fully stock. It still needs some final touches, but nothing major. For anyone interested, it gets to LKO using yer standard airhogger ascent profile. Jeb and Bob were keen to take it for spin... so eager that they left before Bill could hop on. Poor Bill...

The ethical implications would be enormous... Biologically/surgically speaking on the other hand. With the vast increase and refinement of molecular and surgical procedures available, it's only a matter of time (decades or centuries, not 2 years) before someone figures out to successfully perform a transplantation like this (biggest hurdles to overcome would be immune system suppression and neural connections as Kryten mentioned above). I would suggest they'd test it on another (unfortunate?) animal species before naked bipedal apes, though I'm sure(ish) they thought this through.

As mentioned a couple of times above, a large human population is the main reason why there are so many urbanised cockroaches (and mice, rats, pigeons, chlamydia trachomatis, etc). They are just filling the niches we create in the wake of our uncontrolled global dissemination. Get rid of us, get rid of them... furthermore, this would be the most environmentally-friendly option by far. If pan-humanic cleansing isn't your thing, how about some genetic engineering of roach specific pathogens? Insects are susceptible to various viral, bacterial and fungal infections, so I'm sure we can engineer some diseases to be particular vicious to cockroaches. All we need is a cockroach cell-line and some candidate pathogens to get started with (and some funding, got change?). We don't necessarily need to kill them outright (high selective pressure = adaptation = current situation = bad), we could change their living patterns (for instance to live outside in the light) through parasitic "mind-control" wizardry, as several fungi and eukaryotic parasites have evolved (click to see , and ).Unfortunately, releasing any genetically modified organisms into nature (including Slashy's above) is like opening Pandora's box... so in my objective opinion we're best off living either with roaches or without humans.

Good luck to all contenders! I particularly love Jawstin's and Promii's contributions. Now that the competition is closed for entry, I thought I'd share Timmon26's awesome female Kerbonaut rendition from the KSP fan-art forum way back in 2012: Greats stuff, excited to find out who's gonna win

A Cool Image Comparing The Sizes Of The KSP Planets
Yakuzi replied to Owen5595's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Nice, have seen that before though. As this is in reply to a scale request, the "not to scale" comment in the top right corner of the image seems somewhat contradictory Seriously though, unless you're both Smorfty and Lonesentry, it is common courtesy to reference the authors of the images you post... or at least mention it's not your work. For instance, here is a scaled version of the Kerbolar system including Kerbol by jarrodnb: And a scaled version of the Kerbolar system with the Earth and Moon as reference by Callum_Evans: The relative size of Kerbol in respect to the planets in these two images seems off though. EDIT: jarrodnb had an updated version with the correct Kerbol scale, the image above now displays the updated version. -
I really like the new female Kerbal, well done SQUAD! Could we now have some female leaders in the KSC buildings (maybe replace Gene) or add a new position in the tracking station (she could calculate the delta v requirements to visit other bodies, for example... perchance after research; e.g. atmospheric tests to calculate delta v to LKO, gravioli tests for delta v to celestial bodies).

It was mentioned by DanRosas in the aerodynamic devote edition: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/107216-Devnote-Tuesdays-The-Aerodynamic-Edition My bad for mixing up the "animations" with "cinematics", it was late and i had consumed a tad too much, um... rocketfuel when i posted that night.

Scientists as Navigators
Yakuzi replied to LethalDose's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Sorry the devs were talking about reviving life support (Maxmaps IIRC), it is NOT confirmed. My humble apologies, I'll correct I've corrected the post above. EDIT: It would be nice to have an official place where all upcoming confirmed features would be kept nicely together... an 1.0 feature overview of sorts -
Scientists as Navigators
Yakuzi replied to LethalDose's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
To be fair, HarvesteR has changed his mind on a lot of things lately that he previously said "would never happen" (e.g. delta v, re-entry heat, procedural parts and potentially life-support). If life support would be part of stock KSP, I believe that over-time science will not only be viable (without easy timewarping), it will also be a huge drive for setting up orbital and planetary space stations, particularly if combined with unique experiments. Your suggestion is a good one though, but might be better split up among both scientists (the biomes) and pilots/engineers (the rest). -
It will be interesting to see how 1.0 will run in 32 bit with the vast multitude of new parts and features planned (e.g. new landing gear, bigger wings, IVAs for all crew compartments, heatshields, resource exploitation equipment, procedural fairings, new space center buildings and several GUI overlays). Particularly since some players were already struggling with memory issues in stock 0.90 and will further reduce the memory available for installing mods. If Squad doesn't optimise memory usage in 1.0, they should definitely address it in their first patch (or second, the first will likely be "the squashing of *more-than-one* bugs patch")

Stock fairings: Procedural or not?
Yakuzi replied to FishInferno's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I believe were on the same page, sir (EDIT: though not in this thread it seems). With MK3 and 3.75 diameter aircraft/shuttles I prefer not the play the slideshow to orbit and back game because I have to add 50+ wing parts and a equivalent number of struts connecting them. Contrary to somewhat popular believe, this will not make all fixed-wing craft look the same and will still provide enough parts for interesting kersplosiuns... -
Squadcast Summary (2015-02-14) - The Valenti-nope Edition
Yakuzi replied to BudgetHedgehog 's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Great update, though still no news on an actual beta candidate? Also, that new landing gear looks smexy and appears to have lights. Are these functional... that would make landing without distance to surface data a whole lot easier (but feel free to put ground radar in) -
Thanks! Now I guess I have no other option than to redo it I'll have a look if it's possible with the current B9 turbojet settings, no promises EDIT: In the meantime, I also made this single (hybrid)engine spaceplane in 0.24. It is manned in the current setup, but could be easily converted to an unmanned craft: Mods used: B9 R4.0c, Procedural Wings

Welcome to the forums (as registered member) everyone!!! I'm also a lifelong fan of (open)TTD and was hoping Squad would get a proper tycoon game designer on board or would at least use tycoon games like these as inspiration for KSP career mode. So far we haven't been lucky, but hopefully they'll come about as it will make the game truly legendary

Devnote Tuesday: "Point sharp end towards space"
Yakuzi replied to SQUAD's topic in KSP1 The Daily Kerbal
It sounds pretty good Squad, I'm particularly stoked about the realistic ISP. It adds up to be an update with an astounding amount of new features... sure you don't want to sneak in an extra beta iteration, just to be sure or for old times sake? You might want to try out the official forums, I heard they do opinions as well. There's even a thread with tutorial feedback for Maxmaps, aptly named "Tutorial Feedback for Maxmaps". Nothing on the pilot, scientist, engineer skills though? -
These were my thoughts as well. Alternatively I wouldn't mind the KER approach either, I'm on the fence on this one as long as a dV readout is implemented. Also, electric charge should be calculated by hand, i.e. calculate the time your RTGs have been running since take-off plus exposure-time and angle to the sun of your solar panels minus electricity used... Way too cinematic atm.

This is one of my single stage to orbit spaceplane from 0.24. This unmanned SSTO is stable, agile and can get up to an 100km circular orbit with heaps of fuel to spare. I had another version which had a cargobay instead of a fuel-tank at the front, so it could deliver small satellites into orbit. I'm considering to redo it for 0.90 but can't be bothered installing B9 as it nerfes the stock jet engines so extremely (though realistically). Hope this is somewhat helpful/inspirational eddiew Mods used: B9, Procedural Wings
