  1. @Ferram4 Thanks for the drag info. Another one sorry - The new cargo bays show "0 parts shielded" when parts are in them and the doors closed. Any tips on this? And, thanks for the quick update on FAR!
  2. Just launched the new KSP 0.25 version. Found I needed to upgrade FAR. So I quit, nuked the whole folder and installed the latest. Just curious - why does the new space plane parts (cockpit) show 0 for drag value in the parts list? Also: The new cargo bays say 0 items shielded when I put parts in them. Any tips/assistance appreciated.
  3. Nice landing SkyRender No need for gravity turn on launch!
  4. Well, Pol does look pretty, but for challenge and excitement - Tylo. Base/mining station refuelling the skycrane that landed it. Laythe sure is pretty too..
  5. I think Science points are too easy to earn. I basically researched 90% of tree in 3 days. That said, if I had never played before it would have taken a lot longer.
  6. So. I screw up and "Revert to Launch". Um, this doesn't look right? Should I attempt anyway !?
  7. My last Jool 5 mission, which took about 3 months of construction, planning and flying burnt me out
  8. I dunno if this version is easier or not? As above, I landed on Mun first go, with no assist. Then next mission, landed in a crater in the dark, first go. (And my touch down was like 2-3ms.) I'll try docking / rescue now, that should kill someone!
  9. So.. After a break of a few months I came back. I wiped my mods folder, installed the latest version and seriously tried career mode and contracts for the first time. A day later, I was rather pleased with myself, landing Jeb on the Mun for the first time without any assistance from MechJeb or any other mod. (And with a very basic craft). Even better, I got him home too! Even even better, I got him home in ONE piece! Having fun again.
  10. Tylo / Laythe landers are tricky. Jets are so useful on Laythe they are worth looking at. One of my Tylo landers had jets that could be dumped after use, worked well.
  11. Nice, but they shouldn't really save you at almost 90m/s impact.
  12. Thanks Ziv. Yeah only Infernal Robotics seems pretty buggy. On one of the rovers, after restoring a save, the rotating / tiltable spotlight was actually offset from the centre of the craft. Also, the main antenna controls went nutso and I ended up with a jammed antenna I couldn't deploy again. I think that was a combo of RemoteTech and Infernal Robotics. Anyway, it was pretty epic mission. I liked my lander and rovers, both operated REALLY well. Cheers. The main ship, well, yes it was big, but perhaps too big, I never got close to running out of fuel.
  13. I was running at 2-3fps according to FRAPS... My initial departure burn took like 6+ hours realtime i7 CPU with decent graphics card too..
  14. @Ziv here is my entry. It needs tidying. Kethane expedition style. Total of 205 points due to mass... http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/57197-The-ultimate-Jool-5-challenge-land-Kerbals-on-all-moons-and-return-in-one-big-misson?p=1188218&viewfull=1#post1188218
  15. Yeah I think that's fair, my issue was a design mistake, not a bug. Still angry at myself, one part out of 1150 stuffed me.
  16. Id be against refueling but I'm probably only saying that now I can play the game well enough to do without.
  17. Aerobraking multiple craft at Jool to get moon intercepts would be awesome but very challenging to get right. Most players keep one unit during aero brake, get in orbit around a moon, (Laythe ideal) then split up after that, or continue with mother ship. Nuclear tugs are a good option although Kethane mining can negate the need. @Oafman - I currently have at least 5 on every moon, I took two landers. In hindsight one lander is better but I needed to balance the mass. I had 4 mini bases the landers could drop and two base/rovers. Lost one base to the Kraken.
  18. Hello Itoum. Welcome and thanks for entering. Regarding your questions. Mods for the Kethane edition challenge are generally allowed. RT, IR, ScanSat, Aies and FASA should all be fine. FAR is OK, makes aerobraking trickier. Procedural parts should be OK as long as the mass scales with the part. Does it do engines? If so that's probably not OK. Your ship looks OK, what are the parts on the gold coloured tank? (Can't make them out due to res). Looks great.
  19. That's fine, I don't mind as long as you don't. Any curly questions I will bump to you. I actually have one now. Landing Kerbals on a moon. What counts for points? Just the first landing or is each cumulative? ( Kethane variant). Refuelling etc means multiple landings. Personally I think just the first landing. Just finished the Kethane mission finally after months. I had a lot of issues with game and or mod bugs. (Like craft plain vanishing, though I figured a way to avoid this). (Stuff would vanish on F9 but worked out if I went to the tracking centre first, stuff would stay put). Also some minor movement of items attached to my craft. (Most of the issues were with Infernal Robotics I think). For instance a rotary controller moved from being centered to off centre by about two cubic struts worth of space). My points will be negative, based on the mass of the ship I sent. But it was great fun. I have a mining base on every moon, refueled main ship a bit, returned 5 Kerbals and some Kethane to Kerbin. Sent out a bunch of probes and sats. You can see most of pics here, but I am still editing. There are a ton of em sorry. I count a total of 1565 points subtracting start ship mass of 1360t = 205 points. It was a crappy landing but I was tired... Hope you had a good holiday.
