  1. NeoAcario ,

Those problems with EC are KSPI problems. If you will remove KSPI it will work fine.

They seem to be caused by any KSPI part that CAN consume EC, like cryostats, fusion reactors, antimatter tanks, etc. And it does not matter if you have megajoules available, if part can consume EC it will cause problems...

Only one thing TACLS does to make it worse - it halts timewarp when EC runs out. But... you can disable this, and you kerbals will die....

  2. Anyone figure out yet how to get these magnetic nozzles to work? I've tried just about everything I can think of... nothing. I can get it to display ISP and what not... but I can't get it to flow any fuel.

    ~Steve

You need liquid fuel, reactor producing charged particles with directly attached magnetic nozzle and some power, up to few hundreds of megawatts. You also need to launch it to space, it will not work in atmosphere.

  3. So I was testing out my new thermal jet plane, and I noticed that my thrust was imbalanced. I checked my reactors (the 1.5m kiwis) and it said one was running at 78% power. Why is it doing that? How do you control reactor power levels?

You probably run out of intake air, and one reactor decides to throttle down instead of both. This problem always existed, but caused no problems until reactor core temperature started to change depending on current reactor power. And this causes imbalanced thrust...

  4. I'm having issues with the storage tanks for the reactors. (Deuterium-tritium cryostat at least; I haven't tested the others like thorium) Whenever I place them on my vessel, I'm getting some sort of kracken attack where my navball turns black, the velocity turns to NaN, and everything on the screen but the UI goes black. (When I launch the vessel) This has never happened in any other situation, so I'm pretty sure these containers are causing it. Anyway, I'm using 0.24.2 with version .12 of KSPI, so I suppose I may not be directing my question at the devs, (with an outdated version and all) but rather asking if there was ever a problem with this before and if there may be a fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Extra info: As a temporary fix/experiment, I messed around with the config files for the fusion reactors and added the appropriate "module" (decay to helium 3) and "resource" lines from the DT radial vessel onto the end of the different fusion reactors. This caused a black screen with the reactors, until I removed the "module" sections, which were the radioactive decay info, iirc. I can post the cfg files if need be, but I'm away from my computer for a bit.

If i remember correctly this happens when tritium=>he3 decay happens with no he3 storage available.

  5. There seem to be some problem with Klaw, when trying to capture asteroid nothing happens and "NullReferenceException" lines apper in log.

  6. is the dt fusion engine suppose to cost like 500k a piece? I think there maybe an extra zero or something there because thats nearly 10x more expensive than anything else. also the deuterium/tritium cryostat fuel tank appears to cost a negative amount of money when placed.

As much as i love interstellar, should i wait until a more stable release before playing with this some more?

Vista is very powerfull engine, capable of launching 100T craft to kerbin orbit with 15500ISP. It should be expensive.

And it also containts very-very expensive tritium. If you tweak tritium out it will be much cheaper, but you will need to produce tritium...

As for cryuostat price... it's a bug, it can be easily fixed in .cfg...

  7. There are only two resources that can't be had from the Assembly Buildings: Antimatter and He-3

The only decent source of He-3 is the atmosphere of Jool (use and air scoop; the deeper the better.) To switch the fuel once you have collected enough He-3, shut down the reactor and let it cool completely. Then EVA and refuel the reactor with He-3. You'll need an empty appropriate container for the fuel currently in your reactor, and a container with He-3 ON your craft (docking makes you part of the craft.)

    I hope that helps,

    Bolter

    This is incorrect.

He3 is now tweakable in VAB, it is expensive, but available.

And you do not need to shutdown fusion reactor and use EVA, modes can be switched in context menu. You do not even need fuel for this, you can switch modes anyway, and if fuel is not available reactor will just shutdown.

  8. Is AIM reactor antimatter consumption wrong?

It shows ~46mg/day which is impossible with small antimatter bottle and lab production rate at this tech level.

Also direct conversion generator does not work correctly with this reactor, it shows zero maximum power production. It still produce power, but things like electric engines does not work correctly with zero maximum power.

  9. Experienced some strange behavior from pebble bed reactor.

I have just reactor (3.75m one) with few radiators and thermal nozzle, and if i shutdown reactor i have no option to restart it (except if i use eva kerbal), but if i throttle up thermal nozzle reactor is restarted automatically. Is this how it should work?

Also had some problems with 100 000x timewarp and waste heat, while it works fine at 10 000x at 100 000x it shuts down instantly because of overheat.

  10. Am I missing something in the mission system? I'm only on my 3rd science mission to Minmus (and only 18 K-Days in), and like my 7th or 8th to Mun, but I'm only just now about to break 10 million funds.

So what gives? Yes, my tech tree is maxed (no KSPI installed yet)...

    ~Steve

I started new carrer, noticed that i can now get science from contracts which make sense (like flight testing components) without old land-click-return science, and started doing them. Then "explore planet ..." contrats, "transmit science data from ..." (which make satellites usefull) etc... I did no "manned" missions, and no missions with return&recovery. Just small cheap single-use probes. Now i still have few nodes to unlock and something like 50M credits. Enough to build something big with current interstellar prices i think....

  11. Proposed designs for higher-temperature thermal rockets in real life (those that could operate off antimatter of fusion reactors, or off electrothermal propulsion- the latter of which is notably missing in KSP Interstallar, despite my proposal to add it not too long ago) operate off of magnetic fields to contain high-temperature plasma streams generated by the reactors, so they don't come in contact with the actual nozzles; rather than off of materials that could withstand those temperatures directly.

That being said, the same thermal rocket nozzle part is used for a cheap Heat-Exchanger based Microwave Thermal Rockets (which actually operate at LOWER temperatures than traditional LH2/LOX rockets- but obtain their superior ISP through use of just Hydrogen as propellant- which has MUCH lower molecular mass than the the water produced by LH2/LOX combustion, and thus higher molecular velocity and ISP) as for a wildly-expensive and futuristic Antimatter Thermal Rocket.

Therefore, the best solution would be to incorporate the cost of the advanced plasma-control systems needed for high-temperature reactors in the reactor part rather than in the thermal rocket nozzle.

    Regards,

    Northstar

Thats what i am talking about - those nozzles will need means to avoid propellant contact with nozzle, because no material exist that can be used to contain such temperatures.

But then to generate those magnetic field probaly superconducting materials will be needed, and overall such "nozze" will not be cheap.

And it will be probably be be built integrally with reactor, not as separate device.

Also "moving" all those complicated/expensive machinery to reactor part in KSPI may seem right what about situation when you use reactor with generator to generate power? This change will make power generation more expensive in KSPI, while nozzle+reactor price will not change.
