  1. It (like my love-life) was awesome but very short-lived My liquid fuel engine just come flying off before it gets spinning too fast
  2. I realize not all of us (myself included) took classes in computer aided design, or computer graphics. My limited knowledge came from trial and error, and some photoshop tutorials from back in the day. Luckily today there are some very helpful tutorials floating around on the internet if you look for them. So I did some searching and found some texturing how-tos. Most of these tutorials use Adobe\'s Photoshop, however the same can be achieved by using the free program Gimp (Available here) but just be aware that some of the tools may be different or be in different locations than photoshop\'s layout. Rusty Metal Plate Tutorial: http://www.visualdesigncore.com/tutorials/photoshop/Rusty-Metal-Plate/ Rusted and weathered Radioactive Sign: http://3nhanced.com/photoshop/create-a-fantastic-decaying-metal-sign/ This last tutorial I found is a more comprehensive one specifically for gaming textures: http://www.game-artist.net/forums/vbarticles.php?do=article&articleid=22 (sorry, no image preview as the images are rather large)
  3. I -really- like the idea of scratched/weathered textures. But unfortunately I lack the free time to work on textures. But the ideas I have floating around in my head involve multiple layers to accomplish a texture that closely resembles what one would see in real life. Examples: disclaimer: i am not hosting any of these images so the links may be broken or have anti-hotlinking features on them
  4. How\'s being a chimney sweep? Seems like a totally awesome job.
  5. I haven\'t dusted off my copy of spore since my laptop died. In some sort of absurd anti-piracy idea the dumbfckus at EA games decided to only allow 2 installs per registration key, EVEN IF IT\'S THE SAME REGISTERED OWNER INSTALLING THE GAME. I basically said, 'F. U.' to EA at that point. My external HD died (that\'s where I kept Spore) I reformatted and re-installed everything, and then the laptop died a horrible death (along with the HD). So instead of bending over backwards to play a game I legally bought and registered just to fluff someones scrotum at EA games I said enough with it. Thanks EA Games, get fckued.
  6. Wow, didnt even know this. I did notice that the final version of spore was decidedly different than the video will wright released. But no user generated content? That\'s the worst idea I\'ve heard since 1992 when jumping off the roof with a bicycle sounded, 'fun.'
  7. nice save. I dunno, probably because he got his first pubic hair today and is super excited.
  8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickrolling Rickrolling is an Internet meme[1][2] involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song 'Never Gonna Give You Up'. The meme is a bait and switch; a person provides a hyperlink seemingly relevant to the topic at hand, but actually leads to Astley\'s video. The link can be masked or obfuscated in some manner so that the user cannot determine the true destination of the link without clicking. Persons led to the music video are said to have been rickrolled. Rickrolling has extended beyond web links to playing the video or song disruptively in other situations, including public places,[2] like a surprise appearance of Astley himself in the 2008 Macy\'s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.[1] The meme has helped to revive Astley\'s career.[3]
  9. SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour pack is probably the best game I\'ve ever played. It is seriously a time machine: Wake up, turn on computer, fire up SC4, play SC4, get hungry, shut down SC4 and find 4 days worth of facial hair growth and an email from an English professor wondering if you\'re still alive (I was younger then, and obviously at University).
  10. ^ Bill got resurrected on the Mün? A nice sunset landing outside of KSP with the beloved triple chute! (clicky for full size) Gonna have to bump up the graphics settings next time.
  11. this. I like my mac for professional image processing with such tools as Photoshop and Aperture. I do miss a lot of the things my windows pc offered me (larger game volume), but I found the mac os to be a bit more stable and faster than my windows pc. Of course, my last winders pc was running XP pro, and yes I\'ve used ME (ugh), and vista and 7 in other environments (work), but I still come home to my trusty macintosh. Yes it costs more for 'the same hardware' but I\'ve found apple hardware to last twice as long as any of the dell or crummy 'refurbished' HP hardware (that was marketed as \'new\') that I\'ve used in the past.
  12. Gimp is free and a very powerful image editor. MS Paint works, but is very crude. I\'m partial to Adobe\'s PhotoShop, only because I grew up using it (both legal and pirated). Being a responsible adult now, I coughed up the cash and paid for a license.
  13. a few more months and I\'d be on the other side of the bell curve. But 28 isn\'t so bad.
  14. Jeb loves the idea, Bob not so much. Didn\'t think it would work. I ran out of fuel on my retro burn, was left with an 52k / 87k orbit; had to let aero braking do the rest. Left for a while and came back to find my shuttle over the ocean at about 8k. So I went to map view to try and find the closest land mass and changed heading accordingly. However, as you can see; I came up short. Thankfully the Vanguard has substantial buoyancy.
  15. The best I\'ve done so far (today):
  16. The above isn\'t a very awesome picture. Accept when you consider the fact that this happened on the Mün: Yep, I lost my parachute and managed to leave the Mün and timed my re-entry just right that I was able to splash down over water. I used my super flame resistant ascent engine to slow my descent down to a safe speed before decoupling from the engine a mere 10m above the water\'s surface. Scared the pants off Jeb and the boys but they\'ll live to make at least one more flight.
  17. :-\ .... Samuel Clemens is that you? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Twain RE Fuel Issue: My biggest problem was not having enough fuel to get home. At the time my lander had one stage, and I used it to slow the lander, land the lander, and take back off. I incorporated a 'braking' stage that slowed my lander down and allowed for some minor orbital corrections. Once the lander was slowed down and low enough I detached from the de-orbit stage and used the lander to land ... then I used it to take off and get me on my way home. Post Script: It\'s possible to get home with just RCS.
