Probably make them separate parts with the same model as the basic ore tanks but with a texture that discerns it from the regular one, and have them use the same drill and scanner, I'd use a new model for the smelter sens processing fuel is different than refining ore. Like this. -

Sound like a cool idea but I'd have it so you have to refine the gold in two stages Stage one) The low value gold ore is sent to a smelter the Stage Two) The higher value gold ore is sent to a MLP(Mobile Processing Lab) to be turned into pure gold. -
