  1. I already have done something like that. With .24, you send one tiny probe to each body (round probe core + small battery pack + 2x "1x6" solar panels, + something with repeatable science that works in space or around a planet/moon). Do the contracts which only need orbital science, and you make money plus a few points of science... it adds-up. But the idea is nice about the lab +life support. Abusable, but nice.
  2. Ok, that's awesome... and you have lots of time to kill it seems
  3. Just watched KSP stuff from Bob Fitch.. WOW. And I thought I spent too much time adjusting mods and engine power on parts. My honor is safe ! (and his vids are a delight to watch) Thanks for the pointer
  4. "Dr. Hawk" got me into KSP... Was on StarCitizen live chat one night with nothing to do. He pasted a link I clicked it. Was playing KSP and landing on the far side of the moon. I asked him what this game was, and I bought it same night. The realized I sucked HARD. Couldn't even stage correctly. So went to Youtube and got into Scott Manley's videos (well, Kikoskia first, but he stopped playing and Dr. Hawk didn't produce anything in KSP so...). When I ran out of Manley's I searched a bit, and settled on 5th Horseman. Love the voice, and once you get used to his laugh you're golden... He does FTL as well, and I don't mind watching that every now and then. It's the first series I submit ships to, and it's pretty nail biting when you know yours is up next time. Really loved his Jool-5 challenge (even tho the mothership was kinda ugly... lol!). I don't know how I got into HOCGaming's KSP... I think it was last year's Charity waters ? That must be it. I did not believe this guy was 14(15?)... Had he not said so himself I would not have believed it. Watched a couple cool things (Space tourism, that's you right?). At any rate, running out of KSP videos again, just found "Sleepless Knights Studios" channel today which seems to be interesting, will have to give it a watch. Personal notes: I am not strong about mods in the channels I watch... I personally only use clouds, the one that shows better planets, and only a few extra parts (extra/stronger nuclear engines, better Ion drives). the rest, I keep stock. So when I see LPer with odd contraptions, it's kindof a turndown. The only thing I really want to see and that nobody plays, is the alternis Kerbol mod... You want me to sub to your channel ? try and play Alternis Kerbol.
  5. Today was a KSP day, I... - Fixed "Kommit Nucleonics" nuclear engine parts to generate electricity (like the regular KSP one) - Modified "Ion-Hybrid/Electrick Pack" so that engines do not take Oxidizer and Liquid Fuel, and adjusted the engine so it stopped eating 18k of electricity per second. I need a second pass on it so it eats more electricity now as I made it a bit "too" efficient in that regards. - Rescued a Kerbal which tested my new moon lander. It wasn't good, thankfully the kerbal jumped out and used jetpack to stay safe. - Got my "Jool Fairy" eaten by the Kraken, man that sucked. that was my trophy, the very first 1) ion probe I used, 2) vessel that even managed to get at Jool... and it took forever to circularize the way I wanted. - Put a new probe around Laythe, only to realize I forgot science instrument on it AFTER it was in orbit ¬_¬;; - Started thinking about which part to remove for a custom folder of KSP... many I never touch, and would load up the game much faster... Almost 90% of B9 will disappear, some basic parts, most likely the Rapier engine (unless I buff it a bit, ummmm). No screenies to post here unfortunately tho.
  6. I thought this would be a thread about lagging-crazy 1000+ parts space stations or ships. Guess we don't have the same "most annoying" thing in KSP in common. I hate it too when parts don't fit, but w/e... As long as it works. On a side note, I had a probe perfectly lined-up between Laythe and Vall. It was the very first thing to get around Jool in my KSP-carreer (any type of games). I was proud of it and loved switching to it to watch it. In game time, it's been there 329 years. You know what's annoying ? The Kraken ate it today. Now that's annoying.
  7. The only body I have yet to go on is Eeloo. Just did a manned/return mission to Dres a couple days ago (Yey !). I like planets with moons (and Jool was such awesomeness), too bad we can't have a Saturn, Uranus and Neptune variants. as well. I'd totally build a Base around Uranus (the most beautiful planet in the solar system IMHO). I guess Eeloo is next until then tho =)
  8. I've tested these engines thoroughly when they came out. Unmodded (and I like to mod the stock parts which I never find a use to) they are a piece I keep ignoring over and over again. Then again, never was a huge fan of SSTO's which are long as hell to get into orbit and eats fuel really quickly when out of air modes. I prefer using the Ramjet engines with a lot of air intakes when I *do* build an SSTO. Case and point: With my playstyle, not worth bothering with unless I beef up the efficiency of the fuel part to something like 400 ISP.
  9. I managed to get to Jool today ! It's fun that our hard work begins to pay after a while. Not long ago I couldn't even get on the moon properly... Here's the un-manned probe "Jool Fairy" still attached to it's drive section, getting ready for some aero-breaking on Jool's first pass. A nice 125k atmosphere pass trimmed my orbit very close to what I needed. And after much Ion drive firing to trim, extend, and flatten the orbit to match the orbit I wanted, I settled into a cosy ~29k orbit just between Laythe and Vall. Speaking of the devil, here is Laythe passing in front of Jool ! Not a bad evening.
  10. Stock parts, no mods... I decided a month ago to make a good Mun rover. I was never able to make anything stable and safe, until I read this forum and it's rover threads. Thanks everyone on the forums for the tricks - Docking Mode (unless it goes airborne then you need the staging to maneuver it to safety) - Disabling front wheel's breaks - Disabling steering on back wheels, and motor if needed - Center of mass middle, wide suspension - SAS active in most case makes it extremely more stable. The one with the solar column was extremely frustrating to get off the KSC pad and onto the Mun itself... And found it unstable (I played it yesterday, and it was stable enough, beating most design I ever made bar one). Called "Lunar I" (extremely imaginative of me, I know) it can easily cruise around speeds of 25 m/s without problems. It doesn't like to fly tho, and crashes into a million pieces if I try to "drop" into a crater from the rim. In a more polished version, I would remove the 'Gigantor XL Solar Array' on the top of it's column as I never use it. For the rest it stabilizes the whole thing so it stays. It's also a better rover for manned kerballed mission because of the seat on the front. The other is a personal challenge I issued myself. It must look like the Spirit/Opportunity Mars Rover, be stable on the Mun, and push at least 25m/s without flipping or destroying itself. After 2-3 tries, I settled for a small one and boy was I in for a treat. Since I suck at launching things, it took me a week to figure a good launcher that worked... But once on the Mun, it can be stable at speeds of 45-50m/s, has survived jump/falls from a crater's rim until touchdown below (but not at 50m/s heh) It has all the scientific stuff from 0.22 (most on it's "neck" and the material's bay underneath for center of mass with the SAS strapped on), and an antenna to transmit the lot. It's INSANELY good and will be looking on sending my first mission ever to Mars Duna I drove the two of them together (a 5h drive from my "Lunar Spirit" Rover taking much risks) for family photos... enjoy the different angles ! ( Sorry for the lot of pictures, but rather proud of my hard work after so many weeks ! )
