  1. About: I wanted to create a skybox for another eye-candy oriented game: I had fun creating one with Space Engine, so I decided to make a few more. This is the result. You need Texture Replacer! DOWNLOADS: NGC 3115 Central Black Hole Album with more images You very rarely see black holes in skyboxes. I decided to give this massive one a shot. This is a real place in the universe: In this skybox, you orbit a star near the Central Black Hole of the galaxy NGC 3115. You can visit it in Space Engine by pressing F3 and searching for the 'Spindle Central Black Hole'. SpaceDock Download Between the Stars This one emphasizes the vast amount of space between the galaxies (Milky Way + Magellanic Clouds). This is a real place in the universe: In this skybox, you orbit a lonely star which ended up in the vast emptiness of space near the Milky Way galaxy. You can visit this place in Space Engine SpaceDock Download SN 1006 Nebula (3 Versions!) Unedited: SpaceDock Download Light: SpaceDock Download Dark: SpaceDock Download As colourful isn't everyone's taste, I included the unedited file and a darker one. This is a real place in the universe: In this skybox, you orbit a star in the SN 1006 nebula (the remnants of a supernova inside the Milky Way galaxy). You can visit this place in Space Engine by pressing F3 and searching for SN 1006. SpaceDock Download Large Magellanic Cloud More pictures: This is a nebula inside the Large Magellanic Cloud. (A nebula inside a big nebula, and you can even see the Milky Way from up here!) This is a real place in the universe: In this skybox, you orbit a star in a nebula inside the Large Magellanic Cloud. You can visit this place in Space Engine Also, this one's a bit rushed. Tell me if something's wrong and needs to be changed. SpaceDock Download Red Spider More Pictures Another great skybox! No spider was harmed in the making of this skybox Spacedock Download More Skyboxes Coming Soon I'm waiting for Space Engine to update to version They are experimenting with volumetric-based nebulas (SO MUCH IMPROVEMENT ) and you can even edit and create your own nebulas!!! In the meantime, I also found out about Spacescape. Now I just need to learn how to use it. You can donate me to buy me coffee so I work faster. (But I unfortunately still have to wait for Space Engine to update) License All Rights Reserved.
  2. This is my first release (and post), so if you run into any problems with the mod then please do let me know. nvS' Milky Way Skybox First skybox I've ever made. If you look carefully, you can see the Andromeda, Triangulum and the dwarf Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud galaxies. Note: I have graphical mods installed in these images so the skybox may look a bit different for you. --- Dependencies: Texture Replacer Installation Instructions: Download and install Texture Replacer. Extract the contents of the .zip file provided into your game's main directory. Download: SpaceDock --- Licensing: This mod is under the CC-BY-NC-ND-4.0 license. This means you can't use it for commercial purposes.
  3. Nestled between the gorgeous Flame Nebula and the intimidating Horsehead, is the home planet of the Kerbals. They are a peace loving people, and having just become a space-faring civilization, little do they know that roughly 1200 light years from their beautiful planet Kerbin, lies the home planet of the war mongering species of Man, called Earth. At such a relatively close distance, it’s only a matter of time until the two civilizations come into contact with each other. Can the peace loving Kerbals hold their own when the corporate might of Mankind come knocking with their galactic-class mining ships? The Kerbals have, at least, 1200 years to prepare for that eventuality. For now however, they are happy to look up at the night sky and wonder, “Where the kell did Jebediah hide the Horse’s body?" DOWNLOAD You MUST download TextureReplacer Replaced, if you haven’t already. Download the skybox from SpaceDock or CurseForge. Unpack the ZIP archive and place the GameData folder into your KSP install directory, replacing the original. TECHNICAL INFO The skybox was captured using SpaceEngine 0.9.8. Later, I used 'real' images of the individual objects, from various sources (see full list below), to add more detail. How did I choose which objects to make visible and which ones to ignore? I increased SpaceEngine’s magnitude limit to the 8th (from the default of 7th) and exported the skybox at 4096px resolution. I kept the objects which were visible in the exported images. For example, even though the Eagle nebula is ~3300 ly away, it wasn’t showing inside SpaceEngine, whereas the Lagoon nebula which is farther away at ~5200 ly was visible; probably because the Lagoon is nearly 4 times larger than the Eagle. How ‘realistic’ IS this skybox? The locations of the stars, nebulae and galaxies in the sky are precisely where they should be, at least according to SpaceEngine, but I have taken some artistic liberty with their sizes. For example, the Flame nebula should appear a lot larger, and the Great Carina nebula, a lot smaller, in the sky. My priority was to create something dynamic and intriguing without making it too overwhelming or too unrealistic. As such, I wouldn’t claim the skybox to be a very ‘realistic’ depiction of the sky from that location in space. Not to mention, many of the nebulae and galaxies shouldn’t even be visible. However, I have reduced the brightness of such objects to make them hard to spot. CREDITS and SOURCES There are lots! Please expand the section below to see the full list of credits and sources. All other objects, except the ones exclusively mentioned below, are sourced directly from Space Engine v0.9.8. LICENSE This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. Expand the section below, for the details. Closing Notes - Since this is my first attempt at a 'mod' I would love to receive your feedback, even if you hated it! I have more such skyboxes planned for KSP and will update this thread when I am ready to release each of them. Thanks!
  4. Hi, I have a problem switching to 4k resolution, it's very similar to the initial post here: just I have a 4k monitor (now ) and can play other games in 4k resolution. KSP is switching the resolution back to 2560x1440 while the display (hardware) stays in 4k mode. Making screenshots I can confirm that the resolution actually is 2560x1440. I disabled all scaling and whatever overrides I did in the Radeon control center, also in game no anti aliasing and stuff. Modded KSP or freshly downloaded unmodded makes no differnce, 32 bit vs. 64 bit no difference. Windows 10 Game Mode switching also no difference. No difference switching between full screen and windowed. The window however is as big as the screen, wich is odd, since the window only is 2560x1440 but the screen is 4k. Forcing either dx11, dx9 or openGl makes no difference. [EDIT: Ah, I noticed now that the guy had a physical 4k display too. I was thrown off by the later post with the virtual super resolution, so it's actually very much the same problem here.] Windows: Windows 10, 64bit Graphics: MSI Radeon RX480 Gaming X 8G Display: iiyama Gold Phoenix (GB2888UHSU) via display port KSP Version 64bit: [config] build id = 01891 2017.10.05 at 23:08:08 CEST Branch: master language = en-us KSP Version 32bit: [config] build id = 01891 2017.10.05 at 22:01:28 CEST Branch: master language = en-us should be equivalent to 1.3.1. Output log: I just noticed this line: desktop: 3840x2160 59Hz; virtual: 2560x1440 at 0,0 How can the virtual resolution be lower than the actual resolution? Hope that's all and thank you for looking into it. [Giant browser-destroying log snipped by moderator]
