  1. For those of you who don't know what part I'm talking about, it's this bad boy right here. If you do know what I'm talking about, then here's the problem. I'm building a 4-engine airliner that can carry up to 36 people (and has a probe core for remote-controlled use). However, whenever I get up to the desired altitude and airspeed (5,000 m MSL at 300 m/s or more), the wings tend to overheat. One of the test runs ended up with a wing exploding, in fact. The airliner (first prototype) during its ascent. Neat that it can get past 343 m/s, huh. Has Big-S Delta Wings for more fuel and lift. I then added radiators to the cargo bay - as well as some batteries to increase power capacity (and a ladder and some lights for passengers who want to walk inside the plane), and made sure they were on before taking off. However, that was no good as my wings were THIS CLOSE to blowing up after that test. Any ideas how to prevent the large wings from overheating? I'm thinking about adding some small TCS units inside the cargo area, but I don't know if they'll do any good. I'm also open to ideas regarding flight characteristics (e.g. don't exceed x m/s, stay above y km altitude unless going over a mountain). EDIT: It's the main wing that's overheating. The delta wings have a heat tolerance of 2400K
  2. Hello, I'm not quite sure if this is any bug (I'm using some mods) or if there's some unknown multiplier within the core heat calculations. Perhaps someone here can help me to unterstand. In my setting I landed on Minmus with a level 2 engineer. The ship has 2 Drill-O-Matic Junior's attached to a fuel tank and attached to this tank a large radiator panel. Nothing else (of any heat importance) is conected with this fuel tank. There's no termal control system on the whole ship. Now each each Drill-O-Matic Junior has 50 KW max cooling and the large radiator panel has 200 KW of core heat xfer. So there should be more then enough cooling. But when I start mining, the drills core temp climbs up to 561 K. Thanks to KAS & KIS I was able to try some different settings. If I attach another small radiator panel (50 KW core heat xfer), the drills stay at 500 K. So the cooling requirement seems to be somewhere between 200 KW and 250 KW - the drills should only generate 100 KW. I also checked the additional thermal data over the debugging console (ALT + F12) but I'm no expert in those numbers and they don't gave my any hint, what happens with the heat when the drills starts to overheat (I mean going over 500 K). This behavior starts with 1.3.1, in prevoius versions the cooling for this ship was fine (but in those days I drilled on mun ) . Best regards
  3. On Rura Penthe I am running a convert-o-tron 250 which requires 200 KW of Cooling and a Max Cooling of 750 KW two Drill'o'matic excavators requiring 200 KW between them and a max of 200KW between each this seems to be a total of 400kw required my base has 4 x Medium Thermal Control System fins - each with a core heat xfer of 250 KW, max cooling of 19494 KW surely this would be more than enough to keep everything cool, so why are the fins glowing red hot, running at more than 100% ( keeps flickering to 100.5%) and sparking? I shut down the drills and ore processing ( the tanks were all full anyway) to stop explosions happening. The picture below shows my base layout. Is in fact happeneing because all the tanks got full?
  4. How do the radiators work? I'm building a space station and I put a Convert-O-Tron 125 with 4 medium Thermal Control Systems mounted directly to it but it over heats in seconds. When I look at the panels I see "cooling" has 14%. My question is: How is that number calculated and when can I do to improve the Efficiency. Thanks in advance!
