  1. It's possible to config the Tantares fuel tanks to rss ?
  2. I had this experience before with the making history parts since every tie I try to hot stage, the engine heats up the fuel tank below before I can even decouple the stage below. I have tried with a heat shield and it doesn't work. Maybe make the soyuz-style 1.8 decoupler behave like a powerful heat shield?
  3. Someone would have or could make a configuration of Tantares for RSS / RO 1.6.1, I would like to be playing with the N1 but the mod that I usually used for some reason is pulling a lot of ram, anyway this is another problem, but then I remembered from Tantares and I thought it worked on RSS I tested it and found out that I need to change the mod settings to work, could someone do that?
  4. N1-L3 The N1-L3 was a super-heavy launch vehicle developed by the Soviet Union in a bid to land cosmonauts on the Moon. From 1969-1972 four test launches were conducted, all of which ended in failure as a result of complications with the first stage, "Block A". Typically rocket stages are test fired on the ground but no such provisions were made for Block A. Program managers had opted to test the N1 wholly in-flight, a decision that was later described as one of the biggest mistakes in the program. Even years after the landing of Apollo 11, the N1 program had almost nothing to show but rocket debris and a destroyed launchpad and so the program was cancelled in 1976. This is a model of the N1F version, otherwise known as the definitive version of the rocket. Had the program not been cancelled this is the version that would have carried cosmonauts to the Moon. Previous N1 test rockets were only capable of carrying 70 tons to LEO, limiting its payload to lunar-flybys. The N1F however would feature upgraded engines and aerodynamic coverings, as well as super-cooled fuel to boost its lift capacity beyond 90 tons to LEO. The fifth test flight, N1 no. 8L, was to use this configuration but it never flew due to the program's cancellation. As for my replica version, she's built at 75% scale and sits at over 1500 parts. The game lags quite a bit when it loads onto the launchpad but it's manageable. It does feel like the game is playing in slow-motion for the first 3 stages, though. Despite its complexity it handles well and has good flight characteristics overall. Under normal flight circumstances it will fly straight and can be steered away from the prograde vector without flipping. Though I should mention it may flip if you steer too hard in the low atmosphere, sub 10,000m. If you find yourself in a situation like this the craft also features a functional SAS (launch escape) system to keep your kerbals safe. Above is a video I made that runs through the full mission from launch to landing. Alternatively, check out the flight profile album below for details. Flight Profile Download N1F-L3: 1547 parts https://kerbalx.com/tehmattguy/N1-L3 Controls 1: Stage 1 Core 6 Engine Shutdown (optional) 4: LK & LOK RCS toggle (off by default) 5: LK Lunar Ascent Prep. (press before lunar ascent) 6: Descent Module RCS Toggle (off by default) 9: LK Abort to Orbit 0: Detach Descent Module from SAS (press after abort) Backspace: Activate SAS (abort) Tips Put your two Kerbals in the last two seats in the crew menu. This'll put them in the Soyuz module rather than the lander. As for the crew itself I'd recommend bringing two pilots to allow the use of maneuver nodes without using the probe cores. Do not steer the rocket too hard sub 10,000m. Try to keep yourself aligned within a few degrees of the prograde vector at this phase. To perform "hot-staging", activate the next stage before the current one is out of fuel. Press spacebar when the D/v indicator is at 100m/s or so. The first 3 stages have an excess of D/v so i'd recommend dumping the third stage if you're only going for low orbit. Press 5 before lunar ascent to shutdown the main engine and disconnect the umbilical arm between the ascent and landing modules. Doing this lets you throttle up before staging and provides a clean separation sequence.
  5. Comrades, it's time to join the space race. The N1 stands ready. Let's land on the Mun and show all of Kerbin what we can achieve. https://www.dropbox.com/s/udod72znlzzcgbc/Mission-N1-L3 Mun Landing.zip?dl=0 Admittedly, this is my first mission, so I tried to keep it as simple as possible to avoid mishaps. I hope it will be enjoyable.
  6. Has anyone tried hot-staging in KSP? Is it even possible to do without destroying the rocket trying to do it? I've been trying to get something working with Tantares, but I keep blowing stuff up. I'm thinking of just using MM configs to edit Max temps and such on the proper parts. Any ideas?
  7. Tantares N1-L3 In the late 1960s, the Soviet Union Space Program was busy developing a superbooster, known as the N1, and a lunar expedition spacecraft known as the L3 to compete with the American Apollo-Saturn V. With the use of Tantares, Tantares LV, Procedural Fairings, and Realchute, I have created a (close enough) replica of the N1 moon mission. I've added the downloadable version because CaptKordite's is outdated and incompatable with current versions, and I can't find another. This even features fairings with a tolerable, even appealing, texture. Other download versions, a TMK/MaVr payload (maybe), and possibly a video coming soon. Download https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwdKSeoNM59keDlxM01Xc0dpZ0E/view?usp=sharing Note: As I lack any piloting skills, the craft is untested. If you experience mission complications or see any coming or anything related to the craft, let me know.
  8. BEHOLD THE N2 (Upgraded N1 model, 9500 deltaV in first 4 stages) https://kerbalx.com/He_162/N2 BEHOLD THE N1 MUNAR LANDING DEVICE *kerbalized https://kerbalx.com/He_162/N1 *roughly based on this design (the russian one):
  9. The Soviet manned Lunar progrLK-1am, had 2 concepts to get Soviet Astronauts to the Moon The N1 rocket, which never really worked at all, except for the 4th launch that went pretty well (It lasted over 100 seconds); Until they shut down the 6 core engines, and the fuel lines exploded due to the still hot engine, if the had separated the first stage early, and started the second stage, the launch probably would've worked, and the Soviets may have actually gotten to the Moon sometime in the late 70s early 80s (Which also probably would've kept the space race going). One really bad design (Other than the number of engines), was that, although it was more powerful than the Saturn V (10,200,000 lbs thrust vs 7,500,000) it was much less efficient (I bet you can guess why), and thus couldn't take as much to the Moon _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The UR-500k which was the better choice for the Soviet lunar program as it had much less engines, (And eventually turned into the Proton rocket family class we all know), I don't have much other info on it, so you'll have to dig stuff up yourselves _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The LK, which was the landing spacecraft for the N-1, which LK-1 held 1 person. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then there was the spacecraft LK-1, for the UR-500k which was a Lunar flyby spacecraft, and the spacecraft for both, and had 4 modules The crew module which could hold 2 people The ADU emergency engine unit PAB equipment rocket system block (Service module) And the RB Translunar injection stage. Then the LK-700, which was the lander part of it which was a direct ascent lander. (There's not a lot of other info) So what do you guys think the odds are that the Soviets could land humans on the Moon if they separated the first stage in the 4th flight properly or used the UR-500k instead of the N-1?
