  1. Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I have made threads (including the failed 1998 Lost in Space film DLC thread). I welcome myself to the Kerbal Space Program forums, and a belated happy new year to all of you! BTW, Has anyone seen Technological Threat when this was made? It was made in the days when Silicon Graphics was still young, about 7 years after its founding, and less than a decade before Silicon Graphics introduced OpenGL to the world.
  2. So I recently updated my mac to MacOS Mojave and realised that my KSP game stutters like crazy, with black lines appearing everywhere. Some helpful guys in the forum advised me to use the "-force-openGL" command to restart the game, and it worked! However, the sad part is that I am running KSP realism overhaul with real solar system and the whole mish mash, and every-time I created a ship and tried to launch it from the vehicle assembly building, it just gave me the black loading screen with the planets rotating icon in the bottom right. It never tends to get out of that position and gets stuck there. I managed to isolate the problem a bit, as only when I used any of the procedural parts, this problem occured. Oddly enough, it's not the same for some of the stock FASA craft files like the Saturn V. They work just fine, along with other normal KSP installs (unmodded) with open-GL. Can somebody help me with this problem, as it's gonna be a while until I get a windows dedicated gaming laptop, and I have to work with my mac in the meantime. Thanks in advance:)
  3. EDIT: I'm not using the Scatterer addon. Problem occurs with Surface FX turned off and Aerodynamic Effects on Very Low. I looked through this forum but couldn't find this. If I overlooked it, please lemme know, so I can chuck this question out/mark it resolved. Since I don't usually hang around in the altitude regime in question, and I can work around it, I'm not desperate for a fix. Would appreciate one, of course. But I'm posting this primarily because I thought someone else might be interested in seeing it. I suspect some stock part of the game may be impacted. When ascending, at 20,000m, the surface of Kerbin rips open into a big black circle - that also blots out the stock parts of the UI. It grows, and grows, and disappears at ~55,000m. During reentry, at about ~55,000m, the big black circle reappears, and shrinks and shrinks until it disappears again at 20,000m. I've observed this over a number of launches over the past few days. In fact, ever since I had managed to overcome recurring crashes by running the game in OpenGL mode. Never saw it before, not even when it would crash, so I strongly suspect it's OpenGL related. It is also, probably, mod-related, simply because of the vast number of mods that I use. However, as you can see in the screenshot and in the video, this circle will blot out all parts of the stock game - including the navball, stock toolbar, etc. But elements added by mods. Such as the AGX window, or the Gravity Turn UI, are not affected. They are not affected. Not even the little Navball Adjuster tab disappears - while the rest of the Navball does. This occurs during launch or reentry, even after flying a whole mission. At 20,000 meters, the surface of Kerbin rips open, the circle grows bigger and bigger, but at about 55,000 meters, it disappears. On the return journey, the big black circle appears at about 55,000 meters, and gets smaller and smaller, disappearing at 20,000m. When I zoom out, it also goes away. But when I zoom back in, and I'm in the affected altitude range between 20km and 55km, the circle reappears, also. In the video, I was already too high when I zoomed back in during the launch, but during the reentry later in the video, you can see behavior with the zoom. I had left the computer on over night, with the game running, before I made the video. Posting a 341 Mb output_log would not help anyone. So I've just restarted the game, same addons, and repeated this flight, same rocket, and saw the same behavior. The much smaller Output_log: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TBzu3RfIOpIHnbmh5yGITL0jB-dELnv- The epic list of addons (as extracted from KSP.log, so including every little thing that's packed in with one mod or another): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1h_EF_JcJuqbJCjw_sK2-B8otK0Kec8j2
  4. Hi All, First for the required info: KSP Version: I'm running in Linux Mint 18.3 (64 bit), and the game is running via steam; From BuildID.txt: 02077; From readme.txt: 1.4.0; Detailed explanation of what happens: I run the game and i get a VERY brief window which closes immediately, this is with both the 32 and 64 bit versions, reverting to v1.3.1Ican play no problem. No need for screenshots or save files as the game doesn't run Player.log: System specs: I run a Lenovo L512 laptop; Chipset: core i5 430M; Graphics: Integrated Intel HD (inex reports it as "Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Mobile"); RAM: 4GB; HDD: 512GB SSD (Samsung Evo); Clean Install, no mods Generally I assume my machine is too old now and cannot support the minimum level of OpenGL required for 1.4?? It works no problem on 1.3.1 which I can revert to in steam (for now atleast). Is there any way around this at all? I think it might work if I run Win7 but I prefer Linux really. Is there anything I can do here or am I destined to run no later than 1.3.1 on this machine, it s shame as I was just getting into a decent career with it! Cheers All.
  5. I have been pounding my head into my keyboard over what could be causing this effect when Mac and Linux users (openGL) use DDS textures. I am pretty sure it has to do with the way I'm saving these textures, So what I have done is compiled multiple versions of the same textures in DDS format, each saved a little differently. What I need is a few testers on those OS's to try out each one of these texture packs and see if the above effect appears or not. (obviously we don't want it) WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Start a new game and go to the tracking station, tab to Versuch and report what you see here. If any of these packs work with Linux or Mac, please report which pack you used and your OS This moon (Versuch), replaces the Mun in the stock game. REQUIRES KOPERNICUS To Install 1. Install Kopernicus LINK 2. Install the Versuch folder into your Gamedata folder DOWNLOADS: Versuch A1 Versuch B1 If these don't work, I will experiment more. **Versuch is just a test moon and is not career ready but you can still enjoy it in sandbox mode if you choose to keep it.
  6. hello there Pardon the noob question, but I used to play KSP 1.0.5 with opengl because it was so much faster and used less ram, when moded with EVE. Indeed the rendering is slightly not as good as with directx but honestly, for a 20% FPS boost I wouldn't care less. Now I switched to 1.2.1 and thanks to my G15 keyboard, I can monitor in real time the RAM and CPU while loading and playing. 1) opengl is definitely 2 times faster for loading, and my i3770 peaks at 80% whereas it is stuck at 34% with directX. Any idea why? The HDD is not the issue as I launch KSP from a RAM drive. 2) I have some strange artifacts with EVE + scatterer with opengl, and I wonder if it's the mod's problem, or KSP support for opengl. Any idea before I try to post in the EVE post section? thanks for any clue
  7. hello there I have a performance related stupid question, which may be irrelevant since everyone uses DirectX. In the past, I used to play KSP 1.0.5 with opengl because it was so much faster and used less ram, when moded with EVE. Indeed the rendering is slightly not as good as with directx but honestly, for a 20-30% FPS boost I wouldn't care less. Now I switched to 1.2.1 and thanks to my G15 keyboard, I can monitor in real time the RAM and CPU while loading and playing. Here is the point: When launching KSP in opengl: start KSP_x64.exe -force-opengl -popupwindow the loading time is 2 times faster, and my i3770 CPU peaks at 80% whereas it is stuck at 34% with directX. The HDD is not the issue as I launch KSP from a RAM drive. Why is there such a difference? Could that be because of DirectX 11? I am using SEVEN and I know most of you guys switched on Windows 10 + DX12 but, well, could that really be the problem?? Why would the CPU be caped at 34% btw? Has anyone experienced this?
  8. Just look at it! http://imgur.com/KJYxBQf http://imgur.com/fQuQatS
  9. do the force flags still work, and are worthwhile for 1.1? ie these ones? -force-opengl -force-directx11 -force-d3d11
  10. I just started playing with Scatterer and SVE to see if I can get prettier videos out of my KSP playtime. I'm a bit surprised to see a visible reduction in performance on an otherwise decent PC. Consider a Core i7 (i4771) PC with 32 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 760 graphics card. Stock KSP using Direct3D v9 (-force-d3d9) seems OK delivering 60 FPS +/- 5 FPS consistently. Direct3D v11 (-force-d3d11) produced a sawtooth performance graph fluctuating wildly between 30 FPS and 160 FPS, and played fairly roughly that it was almost unplayable. OpenGL (-force-opengl) produced a different kind of sawtooth graph going between 30 and 60 FPS that ended up being quite unplayable. Now, I add Scatterer to this mix and no other mod. I find I can't even load the game without forcing one of either OpenGL or Direct3D 11. The FPS graphs were similar to the stock game, though I think D3D performed slightly better when near the KSC. I'm trying to balance performance with appearance while still playing the stock game, so it's appearance mods only. On top of that I'll be using Shadowplay to record games. Are there any combinations of stock settings, Scatterer settings, and renderer choice that seem to work better for this sort of thing? What are other SVE / Scatterer users using for a performance / appearance balance? Here's my config file minus the key bindings. The stock game is quite pretty on its own with these settings, though I really want the clouds that SVE will provide. Those lovely bits of mist I've seen on some Minmus missions would be nice too. I can provide portions of screen shots that show the FPS graphs if I can find a place to store them on my home server. -- SETTINGS_FILE_VERSION = 1.0.5 TUTORIALS_EDITOR_ENABLE = False TUTORIALS_FLIGHT_ENABLE = False VAB_USE_CLICK_PLACE = True VAB_USE_ANGLE_SNAP = False VAB_ANGLE_SNAP_INCLUDE_VERTICAL = False VAB_CAMERA_ORBIT_SENS = 0.04 VAB_CAMERA_ZOOM_SENS = 0.1 FLT_CAMERA_ORBIT_SENS = 0.04 FLT_CAMERA_ZOOM_SENS = 0.5 FLT_CAMERA_WOBBLE = 0.1 FLT_CAMERA_CHASE_SHARPNESS = 1.5 FLT_CAMERA_CHASE_USEVELOCITYVECTOR = True FLT_VESSEL_LABELS = True SPACENAV_CAMERA_SENS_ROT = 30 SPACENAV_CAMERA_SENS_LIN = 20 SPACENAV_CAMERA_SHARPNESS_LIN = 8 SPACENAV_CAMERA_SHARPNESS_ROT = 10 CAMERA_DOUBLECLICK_MOUSELOOK = True IVA_RESETS_CONTROL_POINT = True CAMERA_FX_EXTERNAL = 1 CAMERA_FX_INTERNAL = 1 SIMULATE_IN_BACKGROUND = True PHYSICS_FRAME_DT_LIMIT = 0.04 MAX_VESSELS_BUDGET = 250 CONIC_PATCH_DRAW_MODE = 3 CONIC_PATCH_LIMIT = 3 SHOW_PWARP_WARNING = False EVA_ROTATE_ON_MOVE = True SPACENAV_FLIGHT_SENS_ROT = 5 SPACENAV_FLIGHT_SENS_LIN = 1 KERBIN_TIME = True CALL_HOME = False DONT_SEND_IP = False SEND_PROGRESS_DATA = False CHECK_FOR_UPDATES = True VERBOSE_DEBUG_LOG = False SHOW_CONSOLE_ON_ERROR = False AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL = 300 AUTOSAVE_SHORT_INTERVAL = 30 SHOW_SPACE_CENTER_CREW = True UI_SIZE = 768 UI_OPACITY = 0.4509981 TEMPERATURE_GAUGES_MODE = 1 SHIP_VOLUME = 1 AMBIENCE_VOLUME = 1 MUSIC_VOLUME = 0.8045812 UI_VOLUME = 1 VOICE_VOLUME = 1 SOUND_NORMALIZER_ENABLED = True SOUND_NORMALIZER_THRESHOLD = 1 SOUND_NORMALIZER_RESPONSIVENESS = 16 SOUND_NORMALIZER_SKIPSAMPLES = 0 SCREEN_RESOLUTION_WIDTH = 1920 SCREEN_RESOLUTION_HEIGHT = 1080 FULLSCREEN = True QUALITY_PRESET = 5 ANTI_ALIASING = 8 TEXTURE_QUALITY = 0 SYNC_VBL = 1 LIGHT_QUALITY = 8 SHADOWS_QUALITY = 4 FRAMERATE_LIMIT = 60 FALLBACK_PART_SHADERS = True PLANET_FORCE_SHADER_MODEL_2_0 = False PLANET_SCATTER = True PLANET_SCATTER_FACTOR = 1 WATERLEVEL_BASE_OFFSET = 1.5 WATERLEVEL_MAXLEVEL_MULT = 0.1 AERO_FX_QUALITY = 3 SURFACE_FX = True FALLBACK_UNDERWATER_MODE = 1 EDGE_HIGHLIGHTING_PPFX = True SCREENSHOT_SUPERSIZE = 0 INPUT_KEYBOARD_SENSIVITITY = 2 dontShowLauncher = False TRACKIR_ENABLED = False FEMALE_EYE_OFFSET_X = 0 FEMALE_EYE_OFFSET_Y = 0.009083331 FEMALE_EYE_OFFSET_Z = 0.03378779 FEMALE_EYE_OFFSET_SCALE = 2.03 FI_LOG_TEMP_ERROR = False FI_LOG_OVERTEMP = False

  12. HI everyone - I just passed my 5th anniversary of playing KSP and the fun just doesn't stop. When I first started to play KSP, I learned about the different launch options and stuck with the -force-d3d11 -popupwindow VS -force-opengl -popupwindow , because I wasn't running that many mods and the d3d screen shots looked so much better. I have a career where I am pushing 70 mods and I opt'd to try the -force-opengl option and saw a significant change in memory available; however When KSP on my main monitor, when I move the mouse over to the 2nd monitor and click, there will be a quick flicker on the KSP monitor. I don't get that when I use the -force-d3d11 option and was curious if someone might have a suggestion? if I use the -force-opengl -popupwindow with dual monitors and mouse over to the 2nd monitor [where KSP is not], there is a flicker. [like a really really really fast alt+tab] If I use the -force-d3d11 -popupwindow with dual monitors and mouse over to the 2nd monitor [where KSP is not], no flicker happens Thank you
  13. Hi everyone, I am running KSP 1.0.5 on a WIn 8.1 x64 machine (FX-8350,8gb ram, GTX 980) with 37 mods, and the game won't get past the loading screen when starting a new game. I tried both x32 and x64 versions, OpenGL, DX11 and DX9 but nothing changes.
  14. Kerbal Space Program lags alot when i open it normally. So, to offset the lag, i decided to run KSP in OpenGL mode. This is achieved by adding " -force-opengl" after the target in the shortcut. It mostly runs without problems but glitches out when i enter the tracking station. The objects and orbits get misaligned and it's almost impossible to scroll around without your head hurting. Here's a gif of the glitch. GIF Image Please take note that while i have EVE installed, this bug can be replicated in the stock game as well.
  15. Announcing KSPRamSaver++. A forum poster here already did something similar to force OpenGL using an executable file. The problem is, their mod doesn't really go far enough. It stops you from adding extra command-line parameters such as -popupwindow. This mod has no such limitations. So without further ado: THE SAUCE THE LICENSE (That's MIT by the way) THE BINARY THE INSTRUCTIONS (and another copy of the license, just in case) This will only work for the Windows x64 version of KSP. I tested a 32-bit version and then adjusted it to fire the x64 executable. I do not have Win64 KSP, so in its current shape it is UNTESTED. No warranty implied in whole or in part. If it blows up, kills your kittens or utterly destroys your entire way of life, I am not responsible. Have fun. UPDATE Spotted a bug. Command-line parameters should have a space between them, herpaderp. More than one parameter would have broken. Even if I'm making a jokemod here, I at least want to make a jokemod that works properly.
