  1. Named after the constellation known as "the altar," the Aerospace Research Agency (ARA) was founded with the goal of exploring and expanding kerbalkind into the Kerbol system and beyond. Its motto: "Constellations of Innovation" [This will be a new career with the Breaking Ground DLC and the main mods being the Unkerballed Start tech tree, Kerbal Construction Time, Galaxies Unbound, Modular Kolonization System, and Far Future Technologies (and other mods by Nertea). I've read that stock parts are more balanced for a 2.5x scale system, so Sigma Dimensions was used to change the size. Galaxies Unbound has a config but I had to manually edit the Sigma Dimensions config file to get it to work. The rotation period of Kerbin has changed to 7 hours and 30 minutes (1.25x longer), but the clock still measures days in 6-hour intervals. This is slightly annoying, but just divide the number of days by 1.25 to get a more reasonable value.] [update: I just installed the Kronometer mod which changes the date format based on the local day length. The dates have been corrected below. Note that there are more than 426 days in a year - 506 days (with the occasional leap day) lasting 7.5 hours each to be exact.] Table of contents Mod list (similar to quasinaut's "kinda ksp2" modpack but not the same), not including most dependencies: (last updated 2024-04-13) Y1, D5 to D28 - Suborbital first steps The first program of ARA would be known as Sagittarius (the archer), a designation for suborbital missions. A rudimentary launch complex nicknamed "Kaus" (the bow) was prepared to support this program. (It would eventually be upgraded and called the "Beta Arae" launch complex.) Y1, D7 Y1, D5 (6 h, 24 m) - The White Dwarf 1 (WD-1) sounding rocket (using a small 0.625 m "Mite" solid rocket booster and twisted fins to enable spin stabilization) launched Sagittarius 1 to a height of 25 km while transmitting temperature data. Almost 4 minutes later, it crashed into the ground. For captions, I use Historian Expanded with my config. (The Historian dates below are for a 6 hour day and not accurate) Y1, D15 Y1, D12 (5 h, 42 m) - The upgraded White Dwarf 2 (WD-2) sounding rocket (using the longer "Shrimp" SRB) launched Sagittarius 2 higher into Kerbin's atmosphere, reaching 42 km. In addition to temperature, it measured pressure. Y1, D24 Y1, D19 (5 h, 42 m) - The Brown Dwarf 1 (BD-1) sounding rocket used 4 small LV-T05 "Cogswell" liquid rocket engines and 1.25 m propellant tanks. It launched Sagittarius 3 past the designated boundary of outer space (91 km), achieving an altitude of about 150 km. Y1, D33 Y1, D26 (5 h, 42 m) - Sagittarius 4 demonstrated the first parachute recovery of a suborbital rocket. As a new rocket did not need to be built, this BD-1 was reused on days 34 27 and 35 28 for Sagittarius 5 (recovered from the ocean) and Sagittarius 6, which used Mystery Goo™ containers to collect even more scientific data.

Linbol System Rebirth is a new mod designed in the larger JNSQ (1/4 IRL Scale) size that aims to swap the Kerbol System to an unfamilliar yet remarkably similar planetary system to explore, with 21 new bodies to visit, and a lot more to come. The mod is a suitable challenge for seasoned players and yet there are patches and tips to make the planetary system more enjoyable for newcomers. A lot of players may come here from JNSQ, so this pack feels halfway between JNSQ and RSS, presenting much larger worlds with more realistic ascent trajectories and yet not making it too difficult to launch payloads in the super-low-twr engines and overly heavy LF-OX fuel tanks that stock provides. - Explore 4 new stars in two pairs of binaries, with the main one consisting of a 1.2 sun mass and a 0.3 sun mass star (Aa+Ab) and the secondary consisting of a 0.7+0.5 sun mass star (Ba+Bb). Classes are F7V, M3V, K5V and DA3.5 respectively, the last star is a super-dense, 73500g white dwarf! - 5 new gas planets to explore, two of which are in one system, with masses ranging from 4 to 600 Kerbin masses and colors from yellow-brown to dark blue. Many moons orbit these gas planets for probes to explore - Lots of planets/moons with atmospheres to land on and sample. Almost every body is unique from one another. - Hazardous bodies with solid surfaces for those that haven't had enough of a challenge - there are 3 of them, and one is a super-earth 16 times heavier than Kerbin. - Scatterer+Stock Scale Rescale configs downloaded separately - All bodies and atmospheres are realistic with much planning involved. - 8k textures to make bodies have high detail. Each pixel is about 4km^2 on kerbin with the 2k textures while on Revan (the homeworld) there are 8k textures that give a 2.2km^2 pixel. 3. This has been repurposed from the original playthrough. https://spacedock.info/mod/3434/Linbol System Rebirth DISCLAIMER: I do not recommend you download this mod for Career as is is torturously difficult with low science multipliers and only biome support for Revan. We're going here. One of the most prized bodies in LSR is Vera, a habitable world with mostly oceans that harbors a ring system. (Perbi also has the same properties, but since it's quite large and cold it's mostly inhospitable for Kerbals). Orbiting even closer to the homeworld Revan than Eve is to Kerbin, transfers are few and far between but come at a low delta-v. Still, with the super-earth homeworld and 2.5x scale, 16200m/s delta-v for a return trip. 2 space agencies (names revealed later) agreed to participate in a race to land a Kerbal there and return. It's in sandbox mode but with deliberate progression as well as crew morale and life support all manually factored in (i could send a craft with one Kerbal in an MK1 pod if I wanted but for the sake of progression the interplanetary transfers will take place on space stations) Mod release page Chapter 0: The details In this chapter I will explain the details. LSR scales the system up 2.7x (1/4 real life) and sends you to a super-earth called Revan. It is 2.16x heavier than Kerbin and has a G-force 1.4x that of Kerbin, and an atmosphere of 2.9atm, with the space center being very low lying. There are 15 biomes for science though many are rare, and low orbit velocity exceeds 5km/s. The innermost planet receives more light than Moho does at Perihelion by a factor of 10 while the outermost one orbits the star every 500-ish years. The main Linbol star binary has a mass of1.5 sun masses and a luminosity of 1.8, resulting in delta-v similar to JNSQ. Revan orbits rather far away from the stars to neutralise greenhouse effect, and many of the planets are interesting in their own right or have moons that are such. With all those grand challenges ahead, which of the two space agencies make it to Vera and back with kerbals first? Details Month system: Revan uses a 505-day year with 12 months and one 'new year' day. Month Start End New Year 1 1 January 2 43 February 44 85 March 86 127 April 128 169 May 170 211 June 212 253 July 254 295 August 296 337 September 338 379 October 380 421 November 422 463 December 464 505 Basically every month is 42 days except new year's day which is new year's day !!!!!! Mission elapsed time still in usual format. 2 Agencies The Kerbal States The United Union very original names! Milestones: Unmanned U1 - Achieve a suborbital flight. [1] U2 - Achieve orbit. (Flag must be planted, return trip to get points) Delta-V requirements: Orbit Revan: 7500m/s Revan Escape: 2120m/s Transfer to vera: 70m/s (Aerocapture+Landing 0 m/s) Ascent: 4800m/s Vera Escape: 1590m/s Transfer to Revan: 110m/s (Aerocapture+Landing 0 m/s) Total: 16190m/s (19000m/s for margin of error and correction).
  4. Table of Contents Chapter 1 Humble Beginnings (you are here) Preparing for Ground Humble Beginnings Investor facility tour, 1/7/2021 Greetings investors! We here at U.S.E.C. are thrilled to introduce you to our operations. Chartered in 2019 under the United Kerbin Space Alliance, we specialize in extraplanetary construction & long-term operations in the most extreme, distant, hostile environments known to kerbal. Here at the start of 2021, we are proud to announce the completion of a major milestone in our Phase 1 program: the Mu Gateway space station. In addition to Mu Gateway reaching operational readiness, SAR satellites have been busily returning natural resource data from both of Kerbin’s planetary children. The Mu Gateway includes upgrade plans as part of the Luna program to support onsite resource operations. Up to 12 crew members can live in relative comfort aboard the station, enabling easy rotation with ground operations. The station includes room for raw material stowage and connections for fuel & processing modules on the underside of the Industrial Expansion Displacement- … yes? Oh… I see. Right away Ma’am. *ahem* Corporate has asked me to inform you, investors, that the module has been renamed to Industrial Extension Truss, and that the individual responsible for the initials “I.E.D.” has been sacked. The truss features two couplings on its underside. We currently pan to seat fuel storage and resource processing equipment in these positions in support of orbit-to-surface transit. Primary attitude correction, thermal rejection, and electrical generation are all provided by the Service Utility Module, with the science lab receiving its own onboard auxiliary power. Habitation is provided by a rigid-wall module adjacent the command module and by inflatable living space attached to the main hub. The station currently orbits at 240 kilometers above the rocky surface and is prepared to receive crew at once. Our Satellites In addition to our crown jewel orbiting our nearest celestial neighbor, we have three operational satellites in two proven patterns deployed to our moons. Our autonomous operations provide communication relay & natural resource scanning via synthetic aperture radar. The Archangel (center, left) mapping satellites have already returned valuable terrain data on both Mun and Minmus and identified a number of promising deposits of natural resources using powerful synthetic aperture radar. Paired narrow-band transmitters provide low-power, high-bandwidth communications to download scan data from anywhere in Kerbin orbit, and an included boost stage provides roughly 1,670 meters per second of delta-V, in addition to the vehicle's onboard fuel supplies of 1,220 meters. With upgrades to the communications hardware planned and additional sensors in development, the Archangel spacecraft will continue to be a U.S.E.C. staple for the rest of the decade. The smaller, lighter weight ComStar vehicle has a storied history. Over 500kg lighter than an Archangel bus, the smaller ComStar vehicle is purpose-built for relay operations around Kerbin's moons. A smaller thruster and smaller onboard tanks provide 770 meters per second of delta-V, in addition to the upper stage it launches on. No boost stage is packaged with the vehicle, which resulted in range limitations of initial launches. Both ComStar 1 and 2 failed to insert into acceptable munar orbits and had to be terminated. ComStar 3, in conjunction with relay antennas aboard the Mu Gateway, services the far side of Mun. Thank you everyone for visiting our facilities. U.S.E.C. would like to remind all investors, current and prospective, that any information not included in marketing or promotional materials, official press releases, and legal filings is considered confidential. Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, please direct them to our fundraising director.
  5. Chapter 1: 'SILENCE, Mission Control! I don't wish to do science anymore, I just want to be happy..' (The surface of the Mun. Dauntless-1 mission. Year 1, Day 344) "Oh, so NOW you are worried about safety? You sent me to the surface of the Mun on a garden chair, had me drive 600 kilometers under the harsh sun and NOW you are worried about me? I have not been able to eat for 19 days because I can not lift my helmet visor up in vacuum of space, and NOW you worry about my safety?" Bob Kerman, one of the best minds of Kerbin ranted over his radio. His radio cackled after a few moments and he heard Mortimer Kerman's voice. "We are not worried about you, we are worried about the science that you might lose if there's no power in the unlit side of the Mun. Moreover, if you overuse the fuel-cells then we might not have the delta-v for ascent. Also we would be hard pressed to send a rescue if you get yourself stranded." Bob sputtered with indignation before throwing his arms up."You know what? Now I am even MORE convinced that this is a good idea." He prepared a course for the unlit side of the Mun to collect temperature data from an anomaly that had been bugging scientists for quite a while. He found some curious surface features on his way and took the time to study them in detail. Once he had collected the data, Bob began dismantling the rover. First it was the science equipments, then the long range comms followed by wheels. The resulting vehicle was no more than a plank aboard rocket fuel and engines. Bob used his limited piloting skills to get the now decapitated rover into orbit and rendezvoused with the crew capsule in high munar orbit. After 19 days in his EVA suit, he found the cramped interiors of the Mk1 capsule to be very comforting and cosy, much like a mother's warm embrace. He ripped apart the first packet of snacks he saw and started devouring it like an animal without even bothering to unwrap it. His stomach reacted to the sudden influx of material after not having a morsel to eat for nineteen days and Bob vomited the contents of his shrunk stomach and then ripped another packet of snacks open, eating it more leisurely this time. His primal howls and grunts would haunt mission control to this date. As Bob was not in any position to follow orders anymore, mission control took over the vehicle's function and charted a course back to Kerbin. Once the crew pod with the science was recovered, KSC found itself richer by 3000 science points. The nerds at the R&D department started analyzing the data and discovering/inventing new stuff. The known universe had just expanded 2.5 times its original size almost overnight. This precious science could help us understand what increased the radius of Kerbin from 600 km to 1500 km. Meanwhile, Bob was crouching in a fetal position in his quarantine cell eleven days after his quarantine period ended, crying and begging to meet his deceased parents. Linus was pleased by this turn of events. He had an excellent opportunity to study the psychological effects of prolonged EVA on kerbals. Bob is smiling in this picture. He is happy. He had just landed the Dauntless one Rover/Lander, a bare-bones lander and exploration vehicle that allowed KSC to explore six Munar biomes for science and doubled as a low budget ascent vehicle on the end of mission. This concept allowed KSC to explore Munar surface using just two 10 ton launches instead of investing in a heavy lift launch vehicle. But was this worth the Kermanity that KSC lost over that mission? Do monetary gains compensate for driving an individual to insanity? The age of Space Exploration is so messed up, that the majority would answer the above questions with a resounding YES. Unless they are the ones who are getting the short end of the stick. In that case they would be singing a different tune.
