I can understand the dislike for the scan-lines. At the same time, I personally like them, and I also liked the dot solution as well.

Comprimise and add both as stock options for the interphase?

I will say that having played with both as they were designed, and playing with them in 3D space, the scan lines have proven to be very nice.

Also, I hope mining equip will be nice, bulky and heavy. And there won't be some magical engines running solely on extractable resource.

But solid rocket fuel goes through a liquid state before it's set in a rocket casing, doesn't it? You have to mix the roofing tar with aluminum granules somehow. (do NOT try this at home)

It is color based, but you can change the heatmap colors to your likeness in case it is hard for you to distinguish them

I'm in two minds about that, personally. They're mining equipment, they're big, unwieldy and heavy. They're not something that could fit on a tiny rover, for example. So I would understand if it's just the one size. That said, I do like choice and Kethane handled the two drill sizes well - the smaller was still fairly large. I dunno, really.. I can't say I'd prefer 1 size because I want choice and I can't say I want choice because it'll seem silly if I could fit an entire ISRU facility on a Rovemate, you know?
