Nice challenge! I think I will submit an entry. Maybe you should add a list of allowed/prohibited mods. Because I think f.e. Adjustable landing gears or Kerbal Foundries would be OK, while Hyperedit or Alt+F12(I know its no mod) should be forbidden.

Here is the oh-so-cleverly-named Ball One:

fbQMlVL.png

...size paramter= 4.07m * 4.39m * 4.73m * 15.5t = 1309.9 t*m3

Releasing the shrapnel cloud...

Destruction: TOTAL!WPhOtOF.png

I did not include a picture of the Ball post-impact because no parts survived other than the litter of structural pylons.

Score: 10pins/1309.9t*m3 = .00763

Here´s my entry:

Bowler: I hit 5 pins, and my craft was 4,8 tons heavy, 5m long, 8m width and 1,8m high. That gives me a score of (5x10000)/(4,8x8x5x1,8)=250000/1728=144,6759259 points.

I really liked the shrapnell idea, so I made bowler 2. If multiple entries are allowed, this is my favourite.

Bowler 2: I hit 8 pins, and my craft was 4,9t heavy, 3,8m long, 8m width and 1,9m high. Score: (8x10000)/(4,9x8x1,9x3,8)=5000000/17689=282,6615411 points.

I really hope we are allowed to submit multiple entries, as this was real fun and I have so much further ideas!

Also, I think we should multiple our final score with 10,000 or so, so the numbers get out of the decimals.

The multiples thing sounds good

All points are now multiplied by TEN THOUSAND

Dimensions of your craft can be found by pressing the "i" icon in the SPH

Most mods are allowed, cheats probably wouldn't help but I could be proven wrong (unbreakable joints makes the pins indestructible)

I'll update the scoreboard now but I am considering adding a special category for most outlandish method of destruction, what do you guys think?

I´m sorry for spamming entries, but I got extremly good in this challenge: Have a look at bowler3:

The extrem small size makes the points extremly high:

I hit 4 pins, mass was 0,9t, length 1,7m, width 0,6 and height 1,3. That gives me a total score of (4x10000)/(0,9x0,6x1,3x1,7)=33518 points! Awesome!

Been experimenting with tiny, high velocity craft--yeah, just hitting a couple of pins results in a huge score.

OP might consider varying the points based on a strict definition of pin destruction, e.g. full points if none of it is left standing, partial if the top is knocked off or the bottom is destroyed but the top settles in place, etc?

Yeah, the scoring does seem a bit biased towards small craft.

I just did a run with an eeny weeny craft - 0.4t at 1.0*0.6*0.5m, miraculously hit two pins (I think I clipped through some) - one is usual, two was very good, and I get

166 666 points

Feels a bit excessive.

Used MechJeb for targeting, no other mods or console.

Ok scoring will now be changed to

10,000 * Number of Pins Knocked Down

---------------------------------------

Mass * Volume * Amount of Pin Debris Left

Any incapabilities of the scoring system is my fault so I'll update the scores myself

However I'm only going to list your highest scoring attempt if you have multiple entries

So the score is terrible because the "ball" is such a bloater.... Although depending on how the rules want to be interpreted there are two possible scores. Neither of them are any good, but it was fun just to do it. Could probably a) use smaller balls B) use less balls c) another run with better piloting would help and d) after ball release go kamikaze on it.

6 pins, 11 pieces of pin debris left.

Total Vehicle Calculation: 6x10,000/(55.2*3.5*10.4*12.5*11) = 0.22

"Balls" Only calc: Parts calc: 16 Balls at ((2.3*1.2*1.2*2)*16)=105.984; 60,000/(105.984*11) = 51.46

Here's the "ball" by itself
