I started work on a Saturn V a few days ago and then saw this thread. I don't want to step on Neat Crown's toes, but I did want to see if anyone was interested in my replica so far. I'm about 90% done tuning it - currently there are three issues I just can't seem to overcome.

1) The adapter faring is suppose to be slanted all the way down, but I can't seem to get the LEM sized for that (and I'm pretty happy with my current LEM it took a while to get the base and ascent stage to play nicely together).

2) Staging from the lifter's stages disentigrate instead of splitting apart nicely.

3) Fuel levels aren't "correct" - S3 (orbital insertion and munar intercept) has enough dV to get into munar orbit. LEM decent stage only using about 2/3 of its fuel from 30kmx30km orbit. I'm sure I could optimize these eventually.

Pictures:

Lift off. Initial thrust 90%. Tilt a bit to the right at 70 m/s then hold course to about 3000m and then turn off SAS and let gravity take over. throttle back to 2/3 and cruise.

Stage 2: Continue gravity turn. Nothing much to seen.

The engine bodies are clipped a bit, but there is center tank. I used a spine of XL girders and then attached the tanks in 4x symetry. Its not as round as I'd like, but its as close as I could come while keeping form + function balanced.

Stage 3: Taken before ignition of the final burn to get us on course to the Mun.

Lem extraction: CC443D7C2FA88AA4F8DA8AFF359E61ECD7788D45

CSM and LEM in munar orbit: A02541CF8E2ED56BC36AF96E6ECA253B35EA1D46

test landing worked well. Haven't tested LEM ascent stage on Mun yet.

Great, will add you to OP when you write a description. :)

I would be interested in that, don't worry about making a replica that somebody else is making. :)

Hiya MRS,

The craft links I posted, most of the craft work in 1.0 but need some refinements, and I have some new crafts I can post when my exams end.

Great, if you don't mind, I'll test and refine those. :)

Hey,

hello,

I have finished the Delta II. It can successfully launch its payload into a 80x80 km orbit with only the main engine (with some fuel to spare). Though the 2nd stage motor does not have quite enough to get it to duna (less than 800 m/s delta V). The root part is the at the top of the 2nd stage motor, thus allowing you to change out the payload.

description:

The Delta family rockets is a set of expendable launch vehicles that have been launching since 1960, based off the Thor IRBM the USAF first ballistic missile ever fielded. They have 95% success rating. They though only have two branches of them still in service, the Delta II and the Delta IV with the delta II close to retirement. Currently holds the record with NASA for being the most used launcher with 84 attempts with only 7 failures .

I'll write up a quick description tonight after work, but I thought I'd link the craft file first so that anyone interested could poke it a bit and let me know where it still needs improvement.

Its 236 parts at the moment (though more than a few of those are cosmetic only)

download Apollo 11

Great! Should I add you to the OP now, or wait until you say?

Hold off a couple more days. On the one hand - right now everything works. Tested the LEM ascent module today and it flew beautifully. I can shave off 2 parts at least from getting rid of back-up thrusters on the LEM ascent stage, it didn't turn out to need them. On the other hand I had more fuel than I needed in the descent stage, and lifter. I still want to take another crack at my Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the lifter - right now it disintegrates on separation and I'd like to try to keep it in one piece if I can.

The LEM is also over fueled and I think I can cut it down a bit more - but I'm not sure.

May I add my Antares + Cygnus? :D

I've updated the craft to use the new fairings and tweaked a bunch of things to reduce part count

You can also check my craft's thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/88361-Bespin-Aerospace

Most of the designs have been updated to 1.0.2 altho the pictures arent. Feel free to add any of them you like

Okay,

Those look great! I would like to add all of the American ones, however I would like a description for them, and the antares DL link goes to some site which doesn't seem to have a DL on it: http://download.cnet.com/windows/

STS-5E is now out:

It really pisses me off that you make these MK3 shuttles look so easy. Mine flip out, break up during descent, after finally making it to space. Maybe I'll give it another go coming weekend, but until then I'll just stick to my Saturn Vs and IBs..

I'd be great if you would be willing to throw a little tutorial together one day

Finally, I've FINISHED. Whew... Now, Here's my Apollo Replica-Thing!

Javascript is disabled. View full album

Important things to note:

- For the reentry, I had to turn on the "Ignore Max Temperature" cheat, but nothing else.

- Whenever done boarding with a kerbal, ALWAYS right click and control the craft from the probe.

- I had Kerbal Joint Reinforcement installed. Without it, it danced like it was the 1940s (The twist) !

- Quicksave often. The first time docking after the landing and re-orbit, Niel was flung off due to phantom forces, you know KSP.

- I left the album to a reasonable 35, as I originally took around 200

Oh, Psh, the KSP community is pretty big, I wouldn't care. Each person has their own version, with their own advantages and flaws. There are 140,000+ members, and everyone should be welcome to everything!

Okay, so after fiddling with it I probably could make the stage separations nicer, but the editor is just not being cooperative:

I'm pretty sure I need to rebuild the first lifter stage from scratch and then set the root part to one of the four outside boosters and connect it from there. I'm not sure that would work for making a cleaner separation though because if that would work then S2 shouldn't need any fixing. Everything works (and works well) its just a little bigger than it needs to be over all and the stages don't always separate cleanly like I'd prefer..

I'll leave it as it is.

Description: The Mighty Saturn V rocket was the workhorse of NASA's apollo mission, as well as the rocket which launched Skylab. The Saturn V was active between 1963 and 1973. To date the Saturn V remains the only rocket proven to be able to transport manned missions beyond LEO. Plans to use the Saturn V rocket as part of the new Shuttle program were abandoned in favor of recoverable SRBs.

Imgur album: I can't reliably access imgur from China (Expat - teaching over here) though I'll try to get access to that over the next few days.

My next project (when I'm not playing career mode) will be a Saturn Shuttle using my existing Saturn V base. The Saturn shuttle never flew in real life, but maybe it will fly in KSP.

Edit: Neatcrown - that is a pretty awesome mini-saturn. I might have to try something like that in Career mode. Not sure I have all the parts for it yet).

Okay, should I add that? How much different is it? Should I replace the existing one with that?

I figured it was about time I made something for this after the STS got taken, falcon 9 so... I went with old traditional inefficient Delta 3910 with the Solar Maximum Payload onboard.

----Edit----

With plentiful amount of Delta V to get you to minmus and back.... or so I think:wink:

----More Edits----

Delta V Stats: 7550 Meters Per Second

Cost: 237,447

Payload: 2.3 Tons

-----More Edits of Edits-----

First of all, please make crafts which others are making too! I already have 2 Saturn Vs, it would be great to see your versions of those too! :)

And, that looks amazing! I only need a description, and I'll add it. :)

Also, Yukon0009, those poor Rhinos! They have been nerfed so hard ASL! That Delta IV heavy is great, but it has a TWR of 1.0, I'll be changing that a bit, if you don't mind. :)
