[KSP 1.4.5] [x] Science! - KSP Science report and checklist (V5.17)

I just update the mod at this point to the latest version, I don't really make any changes, but looking at the ScheduleExperimentUpdate function, this would add 5 seconds to every event, just extending it from 1s to 5s?

		// Schedules a full experiment update in 1 second.
		// In addition to the events we hook, this is also called bu the parent when
		// the system has been sleeping and wakes up. Eg when the window is made visible.
		public void ScheduleExperimentUpdate( bool FullRefresh = false, int AddTime = 1 )
		{
			_nextExperimentUpdate = DateTime.Now.AddSeconds( AddTime );
			if( FullRefresh )
				_mustDoFullRefresh = true;
		}

Also updated [x] Science! for 1.6 over at https://github.com/Flupster/KSP-X-Science/releases/latest

Yes you're right. Any time science is added to the main pool it takes 5 secs to update instead of 1. It gets rid of the major stutter but is noticeable when doing biome hopping, especially with timewarp. More of a bandaid fix.

  1. Download the mod
  2. Open the zip file (assuming windows)
  3. You will see a folder called GameData.  Double-click on it to open it up
  4. Now you will see a folder called [x] Science!  Leave this open for now
  5. Find and open your KSP directory
  6. In there, double-click on GameData
  7. Now, using the mouse, drag the folder called [x] Science! into the GameData folder from the KSP directory.  Make sure you don't drop it on top of any folder in that directory
  8. When done, you should see the [x] Science! folder in the GameData directory.
  9. Close all folders and start the game

Nice, but could you update it for 1.5 and 1.6 please

The current Mod Maintainer/Thread Author (Z-Key Aerospace) has not been on in a few months.

But Flupster has been maintaining it in his place until he returns.

But the new versions will NOT be available through CKAN. Because CKAN can only point to Z-Key Aerospace's version.

Download the .zip for the version you want.

1.5.1 - https://github.com/Flupster/KSP-X-Science/releases/tag/5.18.1

1.6 - https://github.com/Flupster/KSP-X-Science/releases/tag/5.19.0

@fr33soul sometimes it pays to just scroll up a bit. Like three posts above yours.

I use it for the completed list and not to alert me to local science so that eliminates the lag it seems.

FWIW, both [x]Science and ScienceAlert cause a considerable framerate hit for me on 1.5.1. [x]Science however only does this when the window is open and it is checking for biome changes / experiment availability. ScienceAlert appears to do these checks constantly in order to update the icon. Perhaps there's a common method causing this?

Somewhat inevitable given the functionality.

Which one is worse?  And can you be a bit more specific as to the impact?

I didn't do a lot of testing as I am a little liquided with KSP development at the moment and usually playing something else. However with ScienceAlert I was seeing framerates drop from 60+(vsync) to ~40 while flying over terrain.
This is a fairly heavily modded game, but removing ScienceAlert alone restores FPS. Likewise [x]Science, though I have it installed now as I can endure reduced performance temporarily while the window is open.

[x]Science appears to have a very similar impact, perhaps slightly less severe, but only when the "here and now" window is open.
This is new to me as of 1.5.1, I have not tried any 1.4.x KSP but I can confirm that the performance hit is not present, or so minimal I have not noticed it, in 1.3.1.

I don't see anything incriminating in my log, nor a likely candidate amongst the other mods I have installed. You will probably have a better idea though, so take a look if you wish.

From looking at your log, you are running KSP 1.2.2, please confirm.

Sorry, looks like dropbox screwed me somehow and gave me a link to a previous upload. Try this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q2564fgrci8iptz/Player.log?dl=0

I'm actually getting kinda liquided with dropbox too, I'll have to start hosting this stuff myself, and you cats can just suck up my self-signed cert.

I figured something like that happened

Ok, now I see it's 1.5.1

Are the AGM errors from a known issue?  If not, can you provide mw with a way to replicate it?

So nothing jumps out at me, other than wondering what's going on with AGM.  I can say that you are at least one or two versions behind on AGM.  You can get the latest for 1.5.1 from here:

https://github.com/linuxgurugamer/ActionGroupManager/releases/tag/2.2.3.4

Not sure it will help, but get the ActionGroupManager-2.2.3.4.zip and install it, at least that will get you up-to-date.  Meantime, I'll take a look at it to see if I can identify any issues

I think I found the problem with AGM.

If you are willing to try a new version, then get the appropriate file from here:

https://jenkins.spacetux.net/job/A-F/job/ActionGroupManager/23/

Game version is the first part of the numeric filename.  This version includes (last one is for your issue):

  • Added russion translation, thanks github user @yadenisyur
  • Fixed action groups being available in flight when buildings have not been upgraded
  • Removed color code from log messages
  • Add check in the SetupRootModule() for null refs
