How do YOU use Infernal Robotics??

Recommended Posts

I find the telescopic piston/extendotron useful for stowing mining drills and other delicate parts attached radially while entering atmosphere. I also like IR for manipulating docking ports on ground bases, it makes docking rovers much easier. If you just want to deploy satellites out of a SSTO there is probably no need for IR. Just a decoupler will do.

I install it, realize I'm not using it, uninstall it, and then reinstall it later because I think I'm going to use it. But I don't, so I uninstall it again. Then it repeats.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly the way most mods are used by the majority of players :D

Was one of the first mods I've ever used, and I've been playing since .19. I've stopped using it though, because I encounter the same bug. Parts floating off of other parts. http://imgur.com/WO2HPqG

Likewise. I install it, encounter some variant of this bug, and un-install it again. I've reported it more than once too... and it's still there :(

Cycle repeated every KSP release since .19.

I'd love to actually play with this mod, but that bug is a showstopper for me.

I've found my most common uses of IR to be trailer hitches (for articulated trucks/lorries) and rotating platforms for radio/antenna dishes. I've built the occasional crane here and there, though I haven't done so with 1.0.x yet (since I generally use KAS - particularly the magnet and winch - for a lot of that, and I'm waiting on the KIS-functionality-deduplication update to be released).

I finally installed and then used it! I used it to fit a Duna ship into the fairings that make it aerodynamic enough to get into space. I gotta say, it's really cool to toss the fairings and then unfurl the ship. I'm looking forward to doing more.

This is the robot arm I made in 0.90 (attached to the station it helped put together, next to the SSTO that took each individual module up):

I built it with a 'fork' arm, so that there were a total of 3 points where it could attach to surfaces. This allowed it to 'walk' across the station to wherever it was needed (potentially while holding a module... if I were skilled enough).

I also equipped it with some KAS winches that could be aimed and launched at an incoming module. From there, it can pull it in, get it into position, and attach it where it needs to go.

It woulda been quicker to just put probe cores and RCS on every module going up... but this was more fun :)
