Why do these exist?

I understand that we have to limit it to 2x in atmosphere/while accelerating to stay off rails, but why are there limits for 100km, 300km, etc? I find these very annoying, specifically when I am in a low kerbal orbit and want to wait for a specific part of the orbit to begin a transfer maneurver.

Under the logic that it would fry most computers, why not simply have settings for limitations in the options menu? If you have a rig to handle the madness, it isn\'t an issue to you. (You could use common sense to know how high to go)

I think it also has something to do with collision hazards. Yesterday I dived from 12,000 km into Kerbin at x10,000 and the game didn\'t have time to slow down, so I went right through the surface, which crashed the game ???
