No headphones unless I plug them in before I start KSP

The title says it all...I tried using task manager to back out to the desktop, plug them in, but still no sound...if I plug the 'phones in first I get sound. Is this normal?

Most games are like that. They will only detect the current sound device when it starts up. Some games will allow you to select device which in game, but normally only games which have voice chat.

That's assuming it is a different device and you're not just unplugging your speakers for the headphones?

The speakers are built into the Sony monitors... stay plugged in. I jack the 'phones into the port on the front of my computer.

Two different sound cards then, the monitor probably gets it from HDMI and the phono on the PC will be the Soundcard/MB. So yeah its normal.

DirectSound is stupid. This is normal behavior for any program, unless you are using a laptop or soundcard that automatically routes audio output to headphones (due to a hardware switch) regardless of setting.

Is there a headphone jack on your monitor? If so try using it instead.
