New SAS option - speed limiter

Recommended Posts

Okay not strictly a stability function, but it would fit well on the SAS option pop outs.

When activated the vessel automatically maintains the current speed, or at least tries to. It will reduce throttle to avoid accelerating more and increase throttle whenwhewhen it can to avoid slowing down. Particularly handy during ascent and atmospheric flight. Probably no use at all in a vacuum.

This would be nice as a pilot skill. There could also be a "keep relative target prograde", or something.

In addition it would be great if they worked on unfocused vessels too. Imagine mid-air refuelling or atmospheric docking with something like this.

I also have thought about this one. Perhaps it could even be a little more complicated: Give a maximal speed at the surface and an additional speed per 1000 meters. Lets say we pick 4 m/s as maximal surface speed and 20 m/s per 1000 meter. In a flight height of 2000 m we would limit the speed to 44 m/s and have a soft slowdown on the ascending.

He just thought you meant fine attitude controls. You meant fine throttle controls right?

Aaaaanyway, this is an epic suggestion that should be fairly easy to implement. There should be limit acceleration too next to limit velocity so we can finely lithobrake.

The game needs a full autopilot. Like keep velocity, attitude, maintain altitude etc.
