Like in Star Trek at impulse power you can see stars moving by. Totally unrealistic but something I want. Anyone done it yet? I am guessing just a lot of tiny spheres that are light colored.

I prefer to call that effect "Space Dust", and it's used in quite a few games to give an impression of motion. You can see a faint effect here amongst all the pewpew, helping to show that the player craft is sideslipping like crazy:

Problem is, most space games aren't simulating orbital velocities like KSP is, so any space-dust effect would have to be thought about pretty carefully. I'm wondering whether a temporal or motion blur of some sorts for moments of high G might be better (if very strenuous on the GPU).

Also, punted to S&DD. On second thoughts, Add-on Affairs.

The ultimate problem with "sense of motion" in any game with realistic physics is... motion relative to what? Should you get a star-streak effect when you're lounging around at the Space Center because Kerbin itself is zipping around the Sun at ludicrous speed?

Someone should do it. I guess it would be a vehicle effect, relative only to the vehicle. Particles. "Infinity and Beyond" modes should come standard.
