Asclepius v5.0

A new Kopernicus planet (and moon) for KSP!

Video by Jacob Plays Some Games

If you've been to 1 Island on Laythe, you've been to them all...

Do you need a new, fun, and exciting destination for your fleet of SSTO spaceplanes?

Look no further my friend.

Asclepius is a small, sandy, and fissured world, possessing a very thin oxygen atmosphere that only gets thick enough for planes to fly (or chutes to work :0.0: ) deep in the canyons.

Asclepius is meant to be a "low memory footprint" planet pack that even a potato computer can run.

Looks absolutely amazing!

Love the idea of a closer, semi-realistic habitable planet!

However, I would strongly suggest that you make an Imgur album and post it for the sake of describing each screenshot and compactness when loading.

I tried out your mod and made some pictures.

I liked the general appearance of landscape, the "rivers" or "cracks", and the fact that the atmosphere is only dense low makes you fly around in them, which I found enjoyable. It's like flying around in that only river on Kerbin, only there's more.

Awesome pics Hades! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

I added a few of them to the Album in the OP Thanks again! :D

TGWALUN- Thanks, And.. uhh yea, sorry again about adding confusion to your thread

Other News

I think the planet is pretty much complete, I was thinking that it needs a small moon... So, I'm giving that a shot.

I'm planning on calling this little project done, and releasing this soon...

Unless anyone wants to help add E.V.E. clouds to Asclepius... All other suggestions and advice will be taken into consideration in the meantime.

Thanks for checking out my planet! :D

I wouldn't mind helping with some EVE configs, after all, I've made some nice clouds for my pack (well, only for one planet at the moment, but we're focusing more on the development of the planets instead of other configs).

Seriously, I wouldn't mind helping to make some nice cloud layers.

I don't use Kopernicus, but this is a really nice concept for a planet that I'd like to see in Stock. Combining options for airless landings and atmospheric flight on one planet like this is very cool.

It has a thin oxygen containing atmosphere.

I also made a graphic, you can find it in the OP album

Or did you want to know more? Like some kind of fancy scientific reason that it is the way it is? I'll make it up now:

Sulphur hexaflouride produced from deep tectonic activity seeps up, and gathers in the canyons, creating enough of a blanket to trap oxygen emanating from an unknown source on the planets surface.

Yes I get that the atmosphere contains oxygen. The question is, what else? Most likely it will be similar to Kerbin. Proably higher CO2 content due to higher vulcanic activity.

I just checked out the link to your mod in your thread. Sorry I was confused about what you were asking.

I think the easiest way to go about determining what resources should be in the atmo is to take Kerbin and Duna, and just split the difference. Feel free to get creative though :) Thanks for including my planet in your mod.

Great, I did what you said I have given it the following composition: 48% Carbon Dioxide, 39% Nitrogen, 10.5% Oxygen, 1.5% Argon, 1% Water. This planet is really great as a first planet to visit, it's nearby and has plenty of atmospheric resources, and ocean to turn into useful propellants.

I wonder if such an atmosphere would be breathable by Humans or Kerbals. I'm afraid the high levels of Carbon Dioxide would poison us. Perhaps Kerbals, being natural cave dwellers have a higher resistance to CO2 poisoning.

OMG!! I need this in my life! The only problem i have with it is that the texture is too complex looking to blend in compared to the simpler looking stock worlds, I think that you should use a more stockalike colormap. :) btw where can i download the sun flare i see in the screenshots?

Thanks daniel- I've tried using kopernicus to export a more detailed colormap, but I just end up with the oceans? I might also consider making the scaled-space transition happen further out?

The sun flare is stock.

Update 7-8-2015

Changes:

-Small terrain changes.

-Added 2 new biomes to Asclepius.

-Added all new custom biomes for Kruel.

-Added even MORE custom science.

Hello there

I like to play around with cloud configs in various planets, and I've been having quite some fun with Asclepius too. However, I've also had some difficulties

I've tried adding some more cloud layers to the Ascloud.cfg file, attempting to add a second layer and snow at the poles, but anything past the first (default) layer seems to get ignored no matter what I do

As far as other feedback, this is what the planet looks like with the default clouds. I wasn't quite a fan of the sparse look of it, so I went and fiddled around a bit with it. I came up with this setup, achieved by editing the height of the clouds to 2500m and using the eve1 texture. The rationale behind it, is that I tried to roll with the unique component of this planet: an atmosphere that gets incredibly thick down in the cracks. So I made the clouds appear only in said cracks, fading in from 5000 meters, which is the point where the atmospheric pressure spikes. I am still fiddling with it, as I'm not sure I like the default color though..

A bit more feedback, I feel like the orbital map texture is really low res, which is a shame because the planet up close is really quite a sight

If I can figure out how to add more layers, I'd like to share this setup with you

P.s. bonus picture from before I started adding clouds: kruel rising in the cracks

Awesome pics. Don't forget to give the moon a try! Thanks for sharing! If you can get the cloud layers working I'd strongly consider adding them in.

Hi there! I added your mod to the list of planet packs on http://outer-planets.wikia.com/wiki/Planet_Packs

Awesome! Thanks! Is there a list of used planet ID (flightGlobalsIndex) numbers compiled anywhere? Something like that would be cool to add to your site to help future planet modders avoid compatibility issues. I used 38, and 39.
