KSP has officially landed me a job!

So, about 1 year and a half ago I read an xkcd comic mentioning KSP.

First I started playing, then I decided to start modding it, I eventually contributed to the CKAN, and all this code ended up on my CV... and starting from today, I'm officially a software developer

So a huge thank you to Harv and all the KSP team (and the CKAN team too)!

Not at the two companies where I had an interview.

At my current company (and actually, also previous as I was already working here in another position), my boss simply told me "all experience counts".

At another company they asked me a lot of questions about it and didn't seem to care that it was about gaming (especially since they do everything in C#/.NET).

Not sure how many companies didn't even call me after seeing "KSP" on the CV, though...

Why would that be relevant? If you think it is about it being video game related, you are missing the point. It is not only about coding and having experience, it also tells people you are having fun with code in your spare time, plus that it is a type of voluntary work. All those messages show good work ethics and that you enjoy doing the work you are applying for (rather than being another trained monkey hitting keyboard keys in exchange for money).

True, but video gaming is just becoming socially accepted. People normally associate(d) gaming with violent behavior and addiction. Well, of course many games are designed to be addictive. It's a double edged sword

I guess these views are are less common in the software industry.
