The Scott Manley Maneuver. Looking for candidates

Update:

Ok. since Whackjob actually said 'Go!', this does leave Sim1's naming to stick. And anything else would be plagiarism by me. :)

Thanks to Whackjob for clearing this and Sim1 for the name.

Sorry for bothering everyone.

Hi.

We - as a community - are in desperate need of something glorious... something noteworthy... something, so awesome, it can only be named

The Scott Manley Maneuver

I am aware of this thread/video, but lajoswinkler claimed this to be Whackjob's invention... could not verify/falsify.

If this is indeed Whackjob's, then we need a new one.

Let's gather suggestions and put it to vote once we have a couple...

Anyone with me?

Inspired by TythosEternal...

---------------

So far we have

- the "EVA-and-push"

- the "Single-Rocket-Eve2Jool2Eve-and-back"

- the "EVA-in-orbit-then-land-by-jetpack-plant-flag-get-back-to-orbit"

- the "Orange-Tank-Duna+Ike-and-back-challenge"

- the "something-heng-didn't-understand-by-megatiger"

- the "ragdolled-kerbal-cargo-bay-rescue"

Should I try it myself?

1. Launch from Kerbin in single rocket

2. Eve gravity assist to Jool

3. Spacecraft executes a free return trajectory around Jool and sundives

4. Another Eve gravity assist to return to Kerbin

5. Extra points if Kerbal survives

Not sure if this would work, might have to wait a very long time for correct planetary configuration

I happily cede any claim towards being the inventor of this maneuver. It was done long before I ever had to. Keep in mind, I usually launch things with about thirty times more fuel than I probably need. ;)

Creating something that he hasn't done, just so it can be named after him?

That feels very forced, very artificial.

If you want to name something after him, find something he does that is unique to him, or only became well known because he did it.

A little Internet sleuthing showed that

was posted on July 22, 2012, which is two days after 0.16 (the first appearance of EVA) was released.

This is also about a year before Whackjob's

, which was the first video of his I can find. Doesn't mean that the latter didn't use it before then, though - but he has given his opinion already.

I did, however, find a thread discussing the pushing of ships, in which NovaSilisko claims to have done it "before the EVA pack had limited fuel." This was a month after Scott's video was posted, and I can't find any information about when "EVApropellant" was added as a limited resource. This implies that Nova's claim, if true (and I don't see why it wouldn't be) may have been during internal development. But I can't confirm when NovaSilisko was part of the team. Either way, there is a very limited window for anyone to have done so publicly before Scott's video was posted.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
