Aargh nooo! I knew i shouldn't have clicked that update button in CKAN :( I'll have to leave HETTN until I update my game to 1.3.1.

 

My own silly mistake. NVM

EDIT: And thank you Spacedock :) (No I totally didn't forget that I could go to changelog and d/l the 1.3.0 version.. honest guv :sticktongue:

I'm playing version 1.3. If this is the problem, I would like to know if an update is already foreseen, as I really want to use "CTT", but without your mod I do not accept to see empty nodes!

Most likely cause is a mod that was compiled for a different version of KSP than you are running. Depending on which KSP features it accesses a mod compiled for 1.2 or 1.3.1 will crash in 1.30 and vice versa.

The output_log.txt file is much more useful for figuring out exactly where the problem is. But upload it to a file sharing site (like Dropbox) and post a link here - don't paste it directly into the forum.

I'm playing version 1.3. If this is the problem, I would like to know if an update is already foreseen, as I really want to use "CTT", but without your mod I do not accept to see empty nodes!

@Aelfhe1m is correct. HETTN v1.0.1 is not compatible with KSP v1.3.0, since it seems like some of the KSP files I reference changed so I needed to recompile.

Fear not. Until you're ready to update to KSP v.1.3.1, you could download the previous version of this mod, HETTN v1.0.0 (which is KSP v1.3.0 compatible), by going to this mod's SpaceDock page, clicking on "Changelog" and downloading 1.0.0 from there.

@ev0, Is there any way, when hiding nodes, to add the hidden node's value to the next node?  If I have a sequence of nodes, lets say 10, 50, 95.  If 50 has no parts in it you get the 95 node too cheap.  Only 95 instead of 145.  Does that make sense?

I was thinking about adding the option and will in the near future, but ultimately adding the science value to the next node is the same as just not using this mod, right? The player would unlock the empty 50 node, then unlock the non-empty 95 node for a total of 145.

It would look nicer though, with no hidden nodes but increased science values.

I think I've seen this error before. It's either a problem with one of my Dictionaries, or a problem with a part mod and the part-icons in the tech tree.

I wasn't able to reproduce it though. Could you enable debug logging in the settings for me? To enable, find "Extra Debug Logging" in the Difficulty Settings under the Hide Empty Tech Tree Nodes tab.

Either 1) do this from your current game, then return to the main menu, then load your saved game again, and reproduce the error. Or 2) start a new game with Extra Debug Logging enabled and reproduce the error.

My debug logs have the prefix [HETTN Debug], so I would need to see those sections.

I get a similar error with the ETT when I hover over parts that are displayed in the tech tree but I think don't have a "mesh" key in their .cfg file or are missing a .mu file. See kerbalEVA.cfg in the GameData>Squad>Parts>Prebuilt folder, where I get this error every time I hover over it.

Maybe one of those parts has a typo in its .cfg file? If you want to give me list of mods that put parts in the Large Probes node, I can help you bug hunt.

Edit: Does the error happen without my mod installed?

v1.0.2 Update

I recompiled the mod for KSP v1.4.1. Seems to work fine.

To do:

  • I noticed a bug with the option to shift nodes up/down, where a node might shift in the wrong direction. I'll take care of that at a future date.
  • I'll add the option to add science costs from hidden nodes to unhidden nodes.

  • Just an updated to the .version file, up to KSP v1.4.9 so I can update the mod more easily on SpaceDock if there's a KSP patch. No changes to the mod.

I recently added your mod (v1.0.4) to my heavily modded KSP v1.4.3 and started a new game. With your mod installed, I lost at least the Basic Science research block, and with it the early level battery and other items too. Removing this mod, all the missing items returned along with respective research blocks.

It might be one of the mods I am using conflicts with your mod?

Could you give me your output_log.txt? I think it's now under "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\LocalLow\Squad\Kerbal Space Program". You can upload it to your Dropbox or something similar and share the link.

But be sure to enable my Extra Debug Logging option in the game difficulty section under the Hide Empty Tech Tree Nodes tab. Please either start a new game with it enabled, or enable it in your current game, then just in case return to the main menu then resume your game again so that everything loads with the option enabled. I need to see "[HETTN Debug]" in the log file.

I don't know for sure why, but after I'd uninstalled and reinstalled everything , I'm not having problems with your mod anymore.

During the process though, I discovered that the Surface Experiment Pack mod was causing my returned items with science to not be turned in for the science points. Uninstalling it took care of that problem. It's not listed yet as compatible with KSP v1.4.3, but initially seemed to be working correctly. It may have been the source for causing the problem I was seeing with your mod.

All is good now though. Thank you for the quick response in trying to assist me!

I just tried using this with ETT for KSP 1.4.x. With this installed, I simply got the default tech tree. Without this, and just ETT, ETT worked fine.

Will this work with ETT for 1.4 still?

Does this only work when I started a new game with it installed or can it be applied to an ETT game in progress?

It should work with ETT and Module Manager installed, regardless of when you install this mod. Although sometimes I found that it does not work, but I haven't been able to figure out why. After exiting the game and reloading it works again.

I just bought a new desktop and was planning to give this mod an update within the next few weeks.

You can check what tech tree was loaded by pressing ALT-12 and looking in the debug log. It should diapay a message there. You can also turn on this mod's option to log extra stuff in the options menu then reload your game and check the ALT-12 log again to see if there were any errors.

Also just as a test, you can start up a fresh game with the above mods installed just to see if that works properly.

I removed all mods except ETT, ModuleManager, and this, and with a new game, it worked fine. I saw the ETT tree, no empty nodes.

I started a new game with all my mods in (plus ETT and this), and all worked fine.

I opened my save game (where it broke before), and it's working now.

So it seems like you're right, it's only sometimes.

When I use this ModuleManager:

This fact creates this issue:
