Drifting, (4th chapter up!)

Inspired by Tainted Lion's "Kerbol's Shadow"

After WWK, Kerbin's nations stated to expand, as countries agreed to merge into another. Now there where only a hand-full of Nations left...

BUT, for the first part of the Kerbal's step into space, we will be focusing on two nations,

the Light green (AKA the United Kerbal Alliance)

and the Red (The Kertian Empire)

Soon more countries will join, even an international program will be launched, but for now... conflict drifts.

First Chapter...

Location: United Kerbal Alliance, Jeb Hills, Temp, 0*C

It was cold at the launch site, with the fear of the Kertian Empire Rising among the stars before they do, the UKA has put a satellite together.

President Kerman: It is a very ambitious day Gene.

Gene: Yes it is, Mr President, we are ready to launch Flyer 1

"Alpha- Go"

"Omega-Go"

"Comms Link-Go"

"Ignition!"

It soared through the sky, almost

5 Seconds in, the left booster shut down.

"What in the world!" whispered the President

"Prepare to disengaged!"

The craft fell apart in destruction as the Cam crew started to run.

Although the tapes where destroyed the evidence was not.

The Recovery-team analyzed the wreck, stating that the extreme cold somehow shut the booster off...

"We need somewhere warmer to laumch our rockets" Exclaimed Gus...

"As in the Equator, by that small island airfield.

CHAPTER 2

IT was a strange day, after the Flyer 1 disaster, no one seemed to have hope, except for the main staff.

Wernher Von Kerman: Head of RND

Linus Kerman: Wernher's assistant, shows up to the UKA Space Program meetings

Gene Kerman: Head of mission control (The Kertian Empire mocks him and calls him head of Miss-and-uncontrolled, this doesn't bother Gene though)

Kobak Kerman: Capcom and Satcom specialist

Ferwise Kerman: Head of re-entry department

Gus Kerman: Head of operations and recovery team

Mortimer Kerman: Head of finnances

Walt Kerman: Head of PR

"Do you think that they know yet?"

Location: Kertian Empire, Unknown launch facility...

Greetings Prime Minister Gerdin... said the uknown mission controller.

"What we have here is Kerbal 1, after we found out about the so-called Flyer 1, launched by the UKA; we decided to strap a satellite to a K-2 booster. We are ready for launch, so I advise you to put down your coffee, so you don't spill it"

"Ah yes, my coffee, I don't want ants in here if I spill my creamy coffee."

"Yeah, that will mess up our equp-"

"I mean I can't have filthy ants drinking MY coffee!" Interrupted the PR, everyone knew he was respected, but ill-tempered.

"We are ready to launch in T-20 sec"

"Those ridiculous Allied Kerbals launched on a mountain... a mountain! How silly can you be!"

"Satcom go!"

"Satnav go!"

"Radiokerb go!"

"Fire Brigade is standing by"

3.. 2... 1! IGNITION!!!

And we have liftoff

Prepare to detach!

"Drop program go!"

Barometer has reached Null!

Mission control was biting their nails as the great Kertians made history.

"WE HAVE REACHED ORBIT"

Who will send a the next satellite in orbit?

Who will send a kerbal in orbit?

And who will end up not progressing, just Drifting in time?

"We are here to discuss the Kerbal 1 satellite" Gene said.

"We have the funds to make another Flyer Satellite" Mortimer Kerman replied

"We will launch in the newer space center, its warmer there, so your rocket you got there doesn't break again" Gus added in

"Besides, ve new launchpad is closer to ze equator, it vill be easier to launch their' said Wernher...

LOCATION: UKA, NEW ARKIA, NEWS ROOM

"The day before yesterday, the Kertian Empire launched the first artificial satellite in orbit. It has been broadcasting a beeping sound to remid us, that they own the skies, it has passed over the KA 2 times as of yesterday, the Kertains haven't said anything else about the matter. Mr Kerman here is talking about the UKA's plans to send our satellite in orbit."

"The UKA's space agency or AKSA (allied kerbal space agency) will send a probe in a 300km orbit, and will have a basic camera on board, and a basic gyroscope to orientate it to Kerbin. It is expected to launch tomorrow... NOW FOR THE WEATHER"

"Today we are making History... we not only have sent the first satellite in orbit, but we are also making a comms sat. This probe will help comms with our civilians and our military, but mostly the latter!" Said Joefry Kerman (Head of the Royal Imperial Space Program) (RISP)

"We will be launching Kerbal 2 in about... 10 minutes!" Joefry added in, looking at his pocket watch.

The loud speakers turned on "STAND BY FOR LAUNCH"

"Satcom go!"

"Satnav go!"

"Radiokerb go!"

"Fire Brigade is standing by"

"Primary Go!"

"We are ready for launch!"

5... 4... 3... Ignition... 1... LIFTOFF!

LOCATION: UKA, USKA SPACE CENTER, TRACKING CENTER, 11:25 PM

"Hey! we are getting a radio signal from space!" Said one of the Comms Officer

"Ok what is it?" Said Kobak Kerman, head of the ground to space communication network

"It appears to be a satellite signaling military code!"

At that moment the UKA realized that their enemy was in the lead of the race by a mile.

In a meeting of the senators of the UKA, they decided to fund the space program more, Mortimer is pleased.

This also allows the UKA to launch another satellite!

Ignition!

And we have liftoff of Flyer 3, the first scientific probe!

This was also the first night time launch. Not only that, but the citizens of the UKA where excited, and where watching the launch on TV. You can tell this was important, as the launch program took up the TV block for the UKA's favorite show, Kooking with Komedy. (A comedic show about a chef Kerbal who gets his meals messed up by Chef Kraken)

Back on topic...

Unlike the media showed Flyer 3 as being a scientific probe, it also doubled as a comms sat!
