Am I the wrong one or am I really having performance issues?

Recommended Posts

Hi All. before all I apologize about any spell or grammar mistake. I am not a native english speaker.

I am experiencing some performance issues under linux.

This may be all my fault, since I am a heavy modder, but I am having some really awful performance falls when I build bases or space stations.

My PC is an Intel i5, 8Gb RAM and a brand new Nvidia GTX970 (4 Gb VRAM) video card. C'mon... I really feel I sould't have any problems, but the sad truth is that I have 4/8 PFS when I try to dock to my space station or a surface base.

This is my mod list

I run KSP with this popular script

#!/bin/sh

export LC_ALL=C
export LD_PRELOAD="libpthread.so.0 libGL.so.1"
export __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1
exec taskset -c 2-3 ./KSP.x86_64

I even tried to renice KSP.86_64 process to -18 with no improvements

I ran top and this is my output to show my point. Load average is under 50% of total (I have a cuad core)

top - 18:48:42 up 5:28, 4 users, load average: 1,30, 1,53, 1,44

9177 zeke 2 -18 10,641g 5,895g 82396 R 130,0 75,6 5:23.08 KSP.x86_64

Am I being unrealistic about my PC capabilities? I see some really nice screenshots over there, but I can't play with those settings without problems. Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Zeke

******SOLVED******

Distant Object Enhancement plugin was responsibly of my performance fall.

After I uninstalled it KSP began to work flawlessly (I am too lazy to try to tweak it)

Your gtx970 wont help you that much, as KSP is highly CPU-eating. Better get a good cpu, bc your 8gb ram and i5 seem to be the problem here. you got only 150mb free with your mod-setup. many ppl hope that the next update will finally make ksp use the multithreading of cpu's. (unity 5.1 upgrade, from 4.x).

I run on an i5-4690K and a GTX970 and have no problems with frame rates.

We need more detail about your operating system, which driver and version you're using, and your logs. It may also be worth trying to see if you have the same issue on an unmodded installation.

Sorry, there was a typo. I own a GTX960

I looked at that too... I'll have to remove some mods. Buying more memory isn't an option (yet )

I am running a Debian Jessie 8.2 with Xorg 11.0 with NVIDIA propietary driver downloaded from the oficial page (346.35) and installed via the script provided by them

my kernel version (uname -r) is 3.16.0-4-amd64

KSP.log is a big file. this is the header

I found some errors like this

but I don't know if they have something to do with performance drops

Thanks in advance again

  • 2 weeks later...

If your FPS issues are on Asclepius then I know what the problem is. It has to do with the oceans in Asclepius (v0.88) being named "LaytheOcean".. I've been working on fixing it for awhile now..

The surefire way to get rid of the lag is to use kopernicus v0.3.1
