Actually, it never became total, it only covered part of the moon the entire night and it was receding when i went to bed

Sorry bud, but this is a) not true and B) literally impossible.

The moon moved through the shadow of Earth. Since there's only one moon and only one of Earth's shadow, wherever you were on Earth if the moon was in the sky then you could watch as the Earth totally eclipsed all direct sunlight from the moon for about an hour last night.

It sounds to me like you might have gotten a bit confused about what was happening and when, and probably went to bed too soon.

Norfolk, UK here, patches of cloud but I still got a good look at it. It looked amazing through my binoculars (Celestron 20x80's), sadly none of the photos I took came out too well. I'm a bad photographer at the best of times.
