Current Demo Version?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm planning to do a YouTube video project where I build a space station out of user submitted modules. I will incorporate it into an ongoing series and want potential new players to be able to contribute something as well without buying the game. Since it is not shown what exactly the demo is I just wanted to ask whether the demos .crafts are compatible with the latest KSP version or not? Thank you!

Best Regards,

They should be compatible, however, you won't be able to dock with anything from the demo since there are no docking ports. Better to tell them they should buy the game if they like it.

The current demo is .18.3, and docking came out in .18, so you should be good. :)

As for compatibilty, watch out for the old spaceplane parts, otherwise you should be good to go

Did they edit the .18 version to fit what they wanted for a demo?

I've never used it so apologies if I'm wrong

Uh, the current demo (well, as of the last time I installed it) is "v1.0.0.813 Demo" - that's not 0.18.3. It's some early version of 1.0. I recall that it's missing a lot of the 1.0.x features/fixes and also has a microscopic tech tree...

Yeah, the demo stopped being 0.18.3 back in May. :P

It's now based on 1.0, without any of the patches (1.0.1 - 1.0.4+). Still a very limited part selection, though. That space station project won't work with it.

Thanks for the answers guys! That limited part selection is definitely a bummer but kind of makes sense if they use a more recent version of KSP.

Please keep changes between the demo version and the 'real' version in mind.

I almost dropped KSP after playing the (then) old demo and failed to get even the most basic (youtube) tutorials to work due to changes in SAS.
