Is there a point in landing on asteroids

I recently clamped to an asteroid to redirect it, and though i might do some science. All the science experiments just said orbiting the sun

Is there really any point to going to asteroids other then redirecting them or drilling?

An EVAed kerbal can take a surface sample, and you get different science rewards depending on where the asteroid is when the surface sample is taken. That's about it, really.

EVA a Kerbal up to the asteroid and right-click it to take an asteroid sample. Each asteroid counts as a unique science experiment. They work the same as any other science experiment in terms of situations and multipliers, so you can get more by pushing them to interesting locations.

Really the main upside is the ISRU drilling like you said, with a little EVA science as a bonus lol.

I think they could be useful for building fueling stations by using ISRU, or if you have an interplanetary station, you could do a mission, get to an asteroid, mine and refuel, then go and do another mission.

I believe the DMagic Orbital Science mod adds some more asteroid-related experiments, if you're into that sort of thing

You can place an heavy asteroid in kerbin orbit and make it an refuel station for some time.

Using BDArmory+addons you can place a secret base there and become a space raider (Side A/Side B switch).
