Scienceless career

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to set up a career where you have all your parts unlocked from the beginning but have contracts available and limited funds? Basically a money based version of the science mode with all parts.

Give yourself enough funds to unlock R&D level 3

I really need to make a video to just referenece but...

Ksp directory>saves>whateversaveyouwant>persistent.sfs(open with notepad)>ctrl+f(find funds and science, set to whatever you want)>press save. Ta dah!

Just a note, you can set your starting funds and science in the difficulty options when you create a new game. However the most you can give yourself is 500,000 funds and 5000 science, which I just tested is enough to get you lvl 2 R&D and every 160 science node, plus a few 300s. Still it makes a nice middle of the road option if you want to skip the early game and don't want to edit configs.

open your persistent.sfs with the text-editor

search for "sci " (with the space)

you will find that:

name = ResearchAndDevelopment

scene = 7, 8, 5, 6

sci = 82.94647

(the value is my current amount of science points in one test game).

edit it to a value which pleases you.

the same can be done with "funds " (again, with a space).

name = Funding

scene = 7, 8, 5, 6

funds = 1812039.46059268

of course, copy your savegame, and keep in mind, that the quicksave-file is not altered, but it will be altered when saving a new quicksave.

I think science was kept seperate because:

1. Prevent current saves from being screwed up with funds integration

2. Allow for ridiculous craft with limited parts, (look up videos of the tech tree being completed in 1 launch)

3. Bypass the funds, which to many people without contract mods, is still a grind

4. It just hasn't been taken out (Science mode was career before funds)

PS

Thread is solved.
