Well you could cut your fuel by half and replace it with ballast, then you would get something and still be able to travel an insane distance. Plus the cupola bay is gonna slow you down a lot, and you don't want to travel 500km (my approximate approximation of what you will at least do) at 10m/s.

You also might want to use the new Goliath or panther engines the produce 300 thrust each or more i forgot the exact numbers or the panther which can produce 60/130 thrust but you could also try to slap a small pre-cooler to get more of an efficient Goliath or panther engines as well
and did you fill those ore tanks Full? Edited by Lego8_bit

Here is a peek at an incomplete submission I am working on:

The boat I used to get the submarines to the water, which is the mothership, needs modification, and the submarines need some small things too (mainly more intakes so they can meet 100% of the engine requirements rather than 60%, which would allow faster speeds than 12-15 m/s, and control surfaces to aid when the 4 reaction wheels within aren't enough), with the biggest problem being the submarines not being able to easily keep the nose up until some fuel is spent. The submarines still are usable, though, unlike the boat, which requires the removal of an aesthetically-pleasing engine configuration and some other more minor things.

When the submarine touched the bottom, due to multiple reasons, it blew up and detached some parts, so I did revert to a quicksave after I hit the seabed.

Note that this isn't my actual entry, it is just a sneak peak at what I'm working on for it.

Fix to allow the album to be seen with the new forum software.

A second deep dive attempt, made -999m, passed through graphic plane into null-space, so lets call it -999m. And a new mini sub with variable thrusters. Just don't touch the bottom, blows the ore tank.

Guys, just a heads up, I'm in the middle of an extended finals maelstrom, and it probably won't be over till Christmas break. I just can't afford to spend a lot of time on the forums right now, so for now this thread is not going to be continuously updated. Y'all can keep submitting your entries, but keep in mind you probably won't end up on the scoreboard till mid to late December.

Thank you so much for all your submissions, and please be patient with me until the semester is over. I'll get to it eventually, I promise. You guys rock!
This is really cool. Now you just need to bring one of those astroids to lathe, and you will have the new high score for depth.
Ya just had to go & plant the seed, didn't ya?

This ended up taking all @#$%&!!! day. There's no such thing as a "hastily edited video" I suppose. But here it is, hastily edited.

Sunk an asteroid on Laythe. Final depth: 1427m.

@Red Dwarf: Good luck on your exams. School sucks. But it gets better. :D
Of course I did. I felt so lonely there on top of the scoreboard:sticktongue:. Did not think anyone would actually do it though. Well done.
I actually did it back on the previous thread but had some issues getting parts to sink with the asteroid. Do asteroids properly sink by themselves on Laythe now?

nice sub and all but its supposed to be stock with the exception of beauty and information mods referring to the third and second picture with the robotics mod

Confirmed, they appear to sink everywhere except Eve.

Ok, sorry about that, so the new water tank ballast is not stock, but does give better control, and allows you to sit on the bottom lurking for when there is something to see down there....8)

It's possible to sit on the bottom and lurk using standard parts.

I've only just seen this thread, but put a sub in the craft exchange a day or so ago, so I will submit my entry after I've had some sleep.

Here's my entry:

Max depth : 1083m - 1083 pts
Speed underwater : 18 m/s - 18 pts
Distance travelled : 64km - 64000 pts
Touched the bottom : x1.5

Total score : 97651

I was down to half fuel shortly after passing 50km, so my maximum distance was beyond the point of return. Obviously I could have gone further as I still had fuel left, but as the fuel was being used up the craft was becoming more buoyant and I think there would have been a point when I would have struggled to keep it submerged.

Ready to go

Maximum depth. Nose of the craft is actually on the bottom, but the bottom stopped being illuminated by the lights shortly after passing through 1000m.
don't tempt me I could do that Very easily with my sub just replace the passenger with cargo bays to house one or more mini subs or even house water to air missiles

and where did you get that water tank mod from anyway?
What water tank mod, everything is stock? The only mods I use are things like Alarm clock and Kerbal engineer, things that give you additional information. There are no parts mods.

My entry
PGNS Pyrrha. The third ship of the Victory Class U-boat.
W22wSdd.png
Originally meant as to be used as a warship, the Victory Class is all stock plus BD armory (so it has no real affect on stock performance).
If BD makes my entry null an void I will understand.
Not going for any speed or distance record (but she might be the fastest war sub submitted)
Depth of 1017 meters
Speed of 31.1 knots (16m/s)

I am working on a submarine that is bigger than that one and has a stock torpedo. It can carry very small submarines too which also each have a stock torpedo.

I will submit my Mini Submarine too, once Red Dwarf declares he is no longer busy. The album is ready.

Red Dwarf appears to be back, so here's my Mini Submarine album.

Deepest depth: 1074 meters

Fastest speed: Around 15.3 m/s

Distance traveled underwater: 85.1 kilometers

In the meantime, I am working on another entry with a much deeper depth, though the speed and distance won't exceed that of this entry.

Yep, I'm back! I'll be looking through all the new entries soon, so be patient with me for just a bit longer.

Okay. In the meantime, as of today, I have successfully breached the top of the leaderboards by diving down, so enjoy two assemblages of photons. I will post a full album when you are ready (which will provide the proof that I used no hyperedit), and plus, I can go about 20 meters deeper with a bit of roving at the seabed.

Here, I have landed the PocketSub Mk II in the Sagen Sea.

And here I have settled the PocketSub Mk II on the sea floor, at a very deep section of the Sagen Sea.

Edit: You should remove the notice in the OP stating that you won't be managing the challenge anymore until Christmas, once you have the time.
