Yep, something like this, though you might find those wing panels on the end destroyed if a plane hits them, better to use structural panels.

Haha yeah found out the hard way. The point is not to land on those. They are really just for looks more than anything else. There is plenty of surface area for planes to touch down and roll to a stop. Structural panel grey would contrast so badly with the rest of it.

It's taking I was thinking of. I think it could be advantageous to have a small lip especially if you want to divide your deck

Test a plane and let me know!

Are you still looking, I have learned quite a bit about building them and making them workable, landing, parking and launching. I have the carrier and a couple of aircraft (prop and jet) to land on them but I am still working on a tender. The problem is it's hard to land and you usually end up so far down the carrier you can't take off again (I have some ideas for an arrestor wire but that will take longer) the new lip helps but really you need a way to move your craft to a better position, hence the tender.

what have you got?

OK I tested and I failed, at flying...I hit it several times but could not quite get the stock Gull onto the deck, it seems to be big enough and it can definitely withstand the landing (it destroyed planes that hit it) but I just was not good enough. Also at 309 parts with all my visual mods it was running at about 13FPS. It is a working boat so moves and steers, can be used for day and night operations, and has an OLS (Optical Landing System), see last shot. I can't do too much more for a while so I thought I will provide it and you can at least use it for testing. Oh the name is the HMS Hermes CV 95

Download

Got Scatterer to load properly and took advantage to take some shots.

Do you mind if I release it or do you want to keep it exclusive?

its yours to release as you wish. i just want to know if i could try using it for the carrier contract. im testing another carrier too. ill see how well i can spawn it with Contract Configurator.

Try this carrier, you should not have any physics loading issues as you fly towards it (at least I have not so far, and it's quite low on parts)

I decided I'm not going to do a separate release as I can't really build it to be a replica with the physics bug, so I will just improve this one for you.

How's the testing going btw? Let me know if you need changes.

Going very well. I only had to modify it a bit to remove the centerline deck lights for smoother landings. I've added yours to contract pack.

Please update your kerbalx craft with http://www./download/4d6xuau4zh4e4n6/Inigma_Class_Carrier.craft and feel free to use these screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/ZGWKo

I had to remove the center lights as they were very bumpy for aircraft when hit. last thing anyone wants is landing on gravel when trying to stop on a postage stamp. :)

I think I'm going to also include @selfish_meme's in the contract pack as soon as I test his. Two carriers should be enough.

The craft that I've posted on Kerbalx is different from the one I sent you - It has engines and all for actual travel. The one I sent you is specifically for the contract.

I'm in contact with Redbeirtje on reddit. He's interested in using my modified version of your GAP prop Inigma Class Carrier for a weekly challenge. You ok with that?

That's fine, as long as he gives credit where it's due.

After a few hours of work, here we are: Presenting the Inigma-Class Aircraft Carrier:

It currently has 288 parts, so a little on the high side but I haven't noticed any drop in performance when landing on it (I'm playing on a macbook pro).

The deck is over 100 meters long; I was able to land a stock Gull seaplane on it using only about half the deck with a makeshift arrestor hook.

The ship is based loosely off the American Kitty Hawk-Class Carriers, and includes runway and deck lights for night landings.

Hope it's useful for what you need, if the part count is too high, let me know and I'll try to slim it down.

Cheers!
-Rix Killian

Could you share with me the design for the arrester hook?

I've released the Contract Pack, and selected RixKillian's carrier for its part count, and aesthetic. Speeding Mullet's is a close second and may still be used in a future version of GAP.  For now, check out the Contract Pack and let me know what you think of the use of Rix's carrier:

Here is my small, low part aircraft carrier. Well, it's still a prototype and I haven't tried it at sea yet, but launch and recovery stuff works.

It's not just a long, flat bridge (my laptop won't handle it!) but kinda of a STOBAR. That means you have a skyjump and an arresting gear, all crafted in the kerbal way!

It was built back in 1.0.5, and the plane is a crappy low-tech from an old save retrofitted for carrier operations. Good luck it works...

Look!

@PlonioFludrasco

Inigma has already selected the carrier for his contract pack and released said contract pack.
