Environment Enhancement: Sealife?

At the risk of rattling the KerbalSPACEProgram cage,

seeing all these neat submarine craft, would it be unreasonable to have <5km draw on things like 2d kelp and schools and far off "shadows" of bigger fish/mammals?

I saw a (I think Unity) forum post about adding trees - it had some code to remove all trees below sea level. I think these were the same source of trees you see in KSP with the proper settings. I'm thinking if you can do that it should be possible to do the reverse. I don't know how to do it and have long since lost the link. Just saying the seaweed should be doable.
