Miss the old Subscriptions page? Try a custom Activity Stream

One thing I used heavily on the old vB forum was the "Subscriptions" page, which listed my subscribed threads in order of last reply. I did not find a default substitute for it in the new software, the closest being the "Threads I Follow" activity stream (which lists individual posts instead of threads) and "Manage Followed Content" (which is sorted by date/time followed and doesn't permit jumping to first unread post), neither of which is a great substitute.

However, I tried messing around with a custom Activity Stream and have found a way to duplicate that old functionality. Here's how:

1. At the top of the page, select Activity > My Activity Streams > Create New Stream
2. Enter the title of your choosing and the following settings:

3. Click "Save as new stream".
4. Enjoy!

I'm still playing with custom streams, and there's some interesting potential there. For example, clicking the gear icon by Content Types > Topics allows you to restrict it to one or more subforums, so you could have all your subscribed Add-on threads in one stream separate from one with all followed content.

Edit: It is also helpful to switch to "Condensed View", that puts more threads on the page but you lose the preview of the most recent post.

Also, clicking on the grey "check" point (1) when viewing any stream (custom or not) allows you to set it as default: it will appear on every page (2) for quick access (also appears on the bottom of the page) next to the "Mark site read" button, here with a custom stream named "New posts".

Edit: also, custom streams are generated with proper urls: everyone can access other users' custom streams, for example: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/discover/12/

Streams seem *really* cool, even if they are a little bit facebook-ey. Is there any way to limit the type of content they show? For example; I don't want to see new posts in topics, but I do want to see "X Created new topic "Y"" type notifications.

My idea was to create a stream for new topics being created in Add-On releases so I could look at new add-ons as they come up, but I haven't found any way to sort it so that it ignores new "posts" and only lets through new "topics"

Any suggestions, or can streams not do that?

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
