[1.11.x???] STM's Final Frontier Expedition/Rank Ribbon Packs (updated 09/11/20 - one! (AH-AH-AH) New expedition)

In canada, and it is fairly similar in most common wealth countries, a the warrant ranks are just the end of the enlisted chain. There are two rank chains, the non commission members, and the officers. A warrant officer is an nco at or near the top of his trade, usually in a managers role. They also do have the most training of all the troops in their trade. I know that in the USA it is different, for example warrants can fly helicopters but here all pilots are officers.

Just my two cents.

Glad answer more questions.

@Errol Yeah. I'm in Australia, and it's more or less the same here. We (Commonwealth countries) have a much simpler rank system than does the US (with their 37 different ranks that all include the word "Sergeant"). That's why I've tried to go for a simplified but modular system that people can pick and choose from. Want your pilots as WO's? Fine. Want only officer-rank types involved with your space program? Cool. Want a private to sit in the back of your cockpit and pointedly not say anything in the presence of a 4-star general? A-OK. :)

OK, I've added Ops Roles. Had to think about (a) what happens on a bridge of a large ship; and (b) what a pilot could do (other than piloting) if s/he's hanging around on a base/station waiting for some piloting to do. If you've got any other suggestions, let me know.

I also corrected a bug in the Engineering Roles. Not sure if it caused issues for anyone, but caught it myself when I was working on the CFG for Ops Roles. Please re-download and overwrite everything.

Ops roles title is still engineering roles set 2 in the OP.

Im not sure i see all of those as being roles a pilot could be expected to specialise in - although i guess kerbonauts like astronauts could have to pull double duty so that therr is enough skillsets to go around.

For suggestions, I would suggest life support moving to engineering or science (the latter obviously being hard to do til FFs 1.1 update), and Trajectory Optimisation specialist added to enginnering or operations.

Yeah.I figure that Pilots, in particular, have to be given something to do if they're hanging around. Engineers and Scientists always have a bunch of stuff that they could be doing, but what about pilots? They're not particularly good at standing around looking pretty. :D

Thinking back to Colonial times (at least for Australia), people who had particularly ship-related jobs such as ship's navigator, helmsman, and so on, they were all given jobs in the Colony that they could do while they weren't otherwise occupied. I can't remember the name at the moment, but I recall reading about the helmsman of one of the First Fleet boats being given a large plot of land to begin a small farm (and failing miserably, btw, but I digress). Another ship's officer was tasked with overseeing forestry and carpentry duties.

Also, in the late game, Pilots are almost pointless... :)

Thanks for the typo patrol.. Fixed now.

If anyone can think of any other roles for Engineers, Pilots (Operations) or Scientists... I'm keen to hear

Trajectory Optimisation

Good one! Maybe make it Navigation and Maneuver Planning?

STM,

Firstly thanks for making these, I use FF to increase the immersion and do a little RP while in KSP. I have a few questions for you though.

  1. Can you make an officer pack based on the USN (up to fleet admiral)? I love the look of your officer bars. I am kinda partial to the navy ranks and NASA does have its fair share of navy pilots and mixing the branches would be cool.

  2. What program do you use to create and edit the ribbons? I would like to try my hand at a few custom expedition ribbons for my game.

Hmmm.. Yeah OK.

Bit busy this week, will get to it this weekend.

I use Fireworks... I heard that it got discontinued, which is a damn shame, because I found it a much more userfriendly web graphic package compared to Photoshop or anything else.

Got this done, at home... Slightly fancier design to the others (which I think should be fine for Army/Air Force, right?). I want to have another quick look over it before I export it out and put it up.

Did you really want/need "Fleet Admiral"? I dunno... The current Admiral of the Fleet for Australia is Duke of Ed., Prince Phillip. Not sure if it'd be a good idea to have him on a space ship, honestly.

STM,

No fleet admiral is really not necessary, just enough to cover the same ranks you have for air/army would do. Thanks for your work and quick turn around. I looked into it and don't think I will be trying my hand any time soon at making these. I figure I will leave it up to those that know what they are doing for now.

I know you do expeditions, and I do my share of them but what about ribbons for logistic/maintenance missions? For example I have a non atmospheric shuttle that stays in Kerbin orbit that I use to rotate crews out from the Minmus and Mun orbital stations, and through them the surface bases. In this career save its the Pegasus II (the Pegasus I was sadly lost with all crew during a aerobrake return and combination cat-keyboard incident during a critical moment). Since I go hard mode for my games it has LS and must have a crew of two, pilot and engineer, which are stationed with the ship in LKO. In this case a 1st IC and 2nd IC would not be necessary but a "served on crew" would be cool.

STM,

Excellent work on the Navy insignia. Love the Pegasus ribbon, could not have come up with a better one. Here is a pic of the Pegasus II:

Now I have two other ships that get used for logistics, one is the Argos, for transporting LS supplies and KAS parts in KIS containers. I don't have a pic of that one right now.

The other is a mobile refinery, the Leviathon, it has a bay that accepts a robotic probe. The probe mines ore and returns it to the mothership. Here is a few pics:

If you would be interested in making ribbons for these two ships I would appreciate it.

STM,

Thanks for the work again, you have some quick turn around on requests. I just installed the updated expeditions pack and the leviathan & Argos do not show up as being able to award. I checked the config file from kerbal stuff and the last entry is the MEX1 so I think this just needs to be updated? The ribbons are there just not showing up in game.
